Altogether a NEGATIVE experience. We set up our siding installation through Lowes and at the time our salesman came out to the house he told us we would hear back from the installer (Kolb) within 48 hours. After 48 hours we called the salesman and informed him that we had not heard back from the installer. He assured us that we would hear back that day. Kolb got back to us the next day to set up the initial visit and when the owner came out he assured us that was just a small communication issue. Measurements were taken and the product was ordered. We were informed that they would call us when the materials were at the Lowes store ? usually a 10 day to two week time frame. After three weeks had passed I called Lowes and was told that the materials had been delivered the previous week. Lowes contacted Kolb and when they called me to schedule the install they told me that the materials had just been delivered ? not knowing I had spoken to Lowes. During the initial meeting with Kolb we specifically asked if there was anything specific that needed to be done, we were only told to make sure all bushes were trimmed back from the house approximately 4-6 inches which was taken care of before they arrived on site. When they did arrive on site I was assured by the company owner that the bushes were trimmed back enough, but if they needed to be trimmed any further to please let me know and I would take care of it. In the process of removing the old siding and installing the Tyvek the workers pounded so h****** the exterior of the house that things hung on the walls inside started falling off the walls. We quickly rushed around the house and removed all objects from the walls but were too late to save several items. We were never told that we needed to remove anything from the walls and when talking to others about siding being put up were told that the level of pounding is not normal. Work progressed over the next few days and ran into the Thanksgiving holiday. It is important to mention here that twice during the days the workers were here I was out in the yard and noticed a worker coming back up to the house from our backyard near the wood pile. I was curious about this and while watching noticed a worker walking back out behind the wood pile and proceed to urinate. When work began we allowed the workers to use the gargage as a workshop and indicated to them that they were welcome to use the restroom just inside the door. Jim Kolb informed us that his crew would be working to finish the job on Thanksgiving and assured us that his men needed the work and were happy to get it, that was obviously not the case as when the day came the men were visible annoyed and seemed to take it out on the house. The work was completed around 4 in the afternoon on Thanksgiving day and when we went out to inspect the work we commented on the amount of debris in the yard. Jim assured us it would be cleaned up and as we walked around the house he set his men to the task. Visually the house looked great and we were at first pleased. When we came around to the front again the workers were using blowers to blow all the debris into the street in front of our home ? we thought they were doing that to make it easier to sweep up. We finished with the inspection and as I started to sweep out the garage Jim and all his workers got in their trucks and drove away. That is when the real nightmare began: - All debris had been left on the street ? we collected enough from the street and around the house to fill a five gallon bucket 4 times ? screws, roofing nails, small pieces of siding/plastic, plastic wrappers from food and general debris. - We noticed that the light attached to the house was crooked and when we went to straighten it realized it was caked with mud ? all three of our lights were caked with mud as they had just been dumped in the yard. - The bushes had been hacked further back and the cuttings tossed around the yard. - Since this was the time of year that we start our Christmas decorating I had occasion to be up on the roof ? the scaffolding that was used was anchored to the roof. Shingles were cracked and broken and in many instances where they had been knocked off, had been re-secured by driving a nail through them into the roof compromising the integrity of the roof and showing visible damage. I also went into our attic and realized that the walls all had holes in them ? when the workers were pounding on the house they drove right through the exterior walls into the house. Not just one or two but multiple holes (we counted 21 holes), damaging the entire structure. When we contacted Lowes they were of little help and told us that these things are to be expected during renovations. They did send the salesman back out, he investigated the damage and Lowes final word on the matter was to send over some foam board to affix to the attic walls where the holes are. They also informed us that we had to place the foam board on the interior attic walls ourselves because if we had a contractor do it, we would likely void our 1-year siding warranty. The entire experience with Kolb and Lowes was negative. Do NOT use either company for work on your house. Neither company stands behind their work and Kolb obviously has no idea of what they are doing.
