I  called Deiter Brother on Saturday 2/19 and left a message.  I did not get a call back until Monday, 2/22 which I did not have an issue with since I know a lot of businesses are not open on the weekends unless it is an emergency.  The main reason I called Deiter Brothers is that  they are a Lennox HVAC dealer and they had a high rating with Angie's list .  I previously had two HVAC companies (non Lennox dealers) come out to my home and both of them told me that I had an issue with my heat exchanger and it would have to be replaced.  They did tell me that because my home was less than 10 years old and all Lennox HVAC heat exchangers are guaranteed for 15 or 20 years that  it should be under warranty; however one of them did look up the serial number for us and inputted it into Lennox' s system and it came back that it was not under warranty.  He told me that I should work with a Lennox dealer and that as long as we could prove that they system was only 10 years old, we should not have a problem getting the part under warranty.  I know the labor on this part is extensive and expensive, but it is still less expensive than replacing the entire heating unit if the part is under warranty.  We did not want to get a new unit because we plan to move so finaciallly it made more sense to just replace the heat exhange.  When I spoke to ASHLEY at Deiter Brothers and explained all this she told me that she would have to send a service guy out to diagnosis the problem and that she could not quote me any cost over the phone because the TWO previous companies we worked with may not be correct.  When I asked her if I would still be charged the $ 79.00 service fee if I opted not to purchase anything from Deiter Brothers she said I would.  I told her that was a little unfair since I knew what the problem was already.  She was very short with me and told me that was the way it was.  I then started asking her if Deiter Brothers could work with Lennox to see if we could insure that the part would be warrantied if we could prove the heater was under 10 years old and she said that they could do nothing about that.  I told her that didn;'t seem fair.  If they are a Lennox dealer they should be able to work directly with Lennox especially if we could prov e the unit was under 10 years old but she didn't seem to care and was rather rude with her short answers.  She seemed to want to get off the phone as quickly as possible and was not understanding of my situation at all.  For that reason alone, I would would NEVER RECOMMEND this company nor would I chose to work with them even if they were the reasonably priced.  Just hearing the attitude of the person they have representing their company makes me wonder why they are rated so highly to begin with.  I just felt she could have been more understanding of our situation and she could have tried to work with us.  It is a shame for Deiter Brothers that they have such a rude person speaking to customers.  She definitely had the attitude that she didn't need my business so it lead me to believe that I am just a number.  I guess that is the kind of service I would come to expect from a large company so be prepared that if you use this company, you too will just be another "number. "

"I am very sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations. We try very hard to listen to our customers concerns and deal with them appropriately. Most of the time, we meet or exceed those expectations. When we do not, we take the time to look into the matter to see if the situation or circumstance could have been handled differently. When our CSR spoke with the caller, she did tell her that we cannot use another company’s diagnosis to quote a repair. There are times when it is not the correct diagnosis resulting in lost time and additional charges for the customer. Neither of us wants that. If we send a Technician to your home, we need to bill for that Technicians time. Our trip/diagnostic fee covers the trip time to get there as well as a complete diagnosis no matter how long that might take to complete. She asked if we did not do the repair if she would get a refund and was correctly told that we could not do that either as the technician had time to get there and time to diagnose the issue. Why wouldn’t we be entitled to the $79.00 fee? She indicated that the home was purchased from a builder who went bankrupt and did not know who installed the system originally. Typically Manufacturers require that the equipment be registered in order for the warranty to be in force. This is how they determine when the unit was installed, (equipment can sit in inventory for some time until it is shipped and installed), so the warranty period can commence. When we install a new system, we help the customer register so that we are sure they will have effective coverage. Our CSR logged the fact that the conversation wasn’t going well, and indicated she was hung up on. I would very much like to help if we can, but we do need to be paid for our time. Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you reconsider."

He was unprofessional in presentation and actions. For example, while examining the unit, he was cursing. He showed limited effort at performing duties stated on the Angies List promotion.

I am not confident that he performed the duties he checked off as being completed. In the end he stated that he was unfamiliar with with Trane products. He viewed the Deiter Bros supply manual and was unable to locate the part he thought was needed.

I am most disturbed that he drilled a hole in my pipe to check for gases.
He did not solicit my approval prior to making this permanent alteration to my pipe.

After he left my home, I had to contact a service person who fixed the problem. In the interim, the Deiter Bros technician returned to my home to retrieve his forgotten jacket.
He and the new service technician briefly talked about the problem which was TOTALLY different from the Deiter Bros technician . I am highly dissatisfied!

"I am sorry to hear that we fell short of your service expectations. I have done some research and I have spoken with your technician as well as our Service Manager. Our Technician, Mike, indicated that he performed a proper preventive maintenance exactly as described and that he diagnosed a defective part. He also indicated that after he properly diagnosed your system issue, you told him that you had a home warranty company and that he should not worry about the repair that you would turn it in to them. He also indicated that you told him that you needed proof that the Preventive maintenance was done so that you could get the repair covered. We are glad that worked out for you. Our Service Manager indicated that you had insisted on a refund as well and that he did not feel one was warranted inasmuch as we performed the service that you had purchased and we did not charge you additionally for the service diagnosis as we typically would and should have. We are constantly training and evaluating our service teams and the calls they run. Mike happens to be one of our Master Techs certified in the installation and service of all major brand systems. We also have very strict guidelines for how we interact when on our customer’s premises, from no smoking to wearing booties over our shoes when entering the home, and where we park our vehicle. Certainly it would stand to reason that cursing is also not something that would be permitted. In closing, I am not sure I understand the very negative review. The only negative was the cost of extra refrigerant. The refill was declined because a minimum of one pound was required. That is the reason for the low  price rating.  Otherwise the service was excellent and the technician answered all my questions.

As you may or may not be aware, there are other costs that are associated with adding Freon to a refrigeration system. EPA testing and certification is required of the technician before he/she can handle refrigerant. Scales and reclamation equipment must be purchased and maintained on a regular basis. Gauges must be purchased and maintained. Records and proper documentation are required to be kept and maintained for a specific period of time. There is also the time it takes to connect and get setup to add the refrigerant. That minimum charge for the first pound is how we absorb those costs. We appreciate the opportunity to provide your service check and I hope you understand why we have a minimum charge for the 1st pound of refrigerant."

We've been using them for awhile, maybe a couple of years. Its Greenworks and it turned into DETER Brothers. They've been great. They've been really good. They're prompt and a little pricey. They were very professional. They usually is lower than any other ones. I don't have any contracts with them because I own my own tanks so I can go any place I want. A lot of the propane, you have to be on a contract and you have to stay with the company. I can go anywhere I want so I choose them. It works and it always functions. They're very good with responsiveness. They are open 24/7. I'll continue to use them. if they continue the way they are I'll absolutely use them.

The gentleman came out and refused to do the work. As soon as I realized that he was so set on not doing the service i did not even try and argue with him. I did pay the company the dispatch fee separately since he did take the time to come out. However, the serviceman's demeanor and just his unwillingness to communicate in a business like manor was not wonderful. I will not even consider this company for any reason in the future.

"I'm sorry to hear that you were not happy with your recent service experience. It also appears that you may not have all of your facts correct. Had you called purchased a service call rather than a preventive maintenance tune-up I suspect this may have gone much better for both of us. When you advised us that you intentionally purchased a tune-up for a system that was not functioning, we did explain that we would send a Technician to properly diagnose your "no heat" condition and provide you with a quote. Out Technician advised that the heating system and the chimney were blocked and once the chimney was cleaned, we would stop back and perform the cleaning of the heating system. You did call and schedule the cleaning for 2/4. You then called and left a message to cancel the cleaning. Unfortunately, the price of the system cleaning doesnt cover every possible repair or service issue that you may have wanted it to. Additionally, at no time did our Technician refuse to service the system. He properly diagnosed your issue and quoted you for the repair."
