I got several opinions and estimates prior to deciding to do the piering. Once i signed the contract with Matthews the work was scheduled for several months later due to their current workload. This was to be a 2-day project, and i did plan to be off of work those days. The first day of work we did have some bad weather, and i did receive a call from the foreman that they would be several hours late. They were also several hours late the next day, and did leave a little early both days apparently due to some problems with one of their trucks. This caused them to have to come a third day, and they were able to finish the work the third day. They were professional, did clean up well, and did their best to resolve the issues that i had with the foundation. They were able to close up the exterior cracks to some degree, and to raise the corner of the house somewhat. There was some minor damage to the panneling of the basement as they attempted to install the piers, and this was a known risk.

They did a good job. They came out and were done in like a morning. I thought it would take much longer than that. We had cracks in the garage and they put in wall anchors. There is a big metal plate on the wall and I guess they drill them into the ground. So that?s how wall anchors are. Everything seems to be working fine. It also comes with a lifetime warranty. I didn?t compare their price with anybody else. It took a while to schedule since they were really busy. They took a month to get the work done. They came out within two days to give us the quote. They were very good and the guys who came out were great.

Called the company and quickly got an appointment with a rep. The sales rep was knowledgeable about their product but also called in a very experienced installer to help him decide how to spec the job and to answer my questions. The estimate included a lot of details about their product, and references. We had to wait about a month to get on the work schedule, which was fine since the sales rep warned us about it and we were out of town part of that time anyway. The crew arrived very early in the morning but didn't do anything noisy until a decent hour. Work took about 5 days. For the outside piers, they excavated by hand to expose a 4' section of the foundation. None of our shrubs were harmed. In the basement, they dug in two areas. They jackhammered the cement floor and removed all the debris. They put up plastic sheeting to protect our stuff, but it was still very dusty. They were very conscientious about cleaning up, but they can only do so much. When the foundation was exposed outside, the crew discovered that the bottom didn't have a large enough footer stone to support the external piers as planned. At first they suggested pouring a concrete footer in that area, but then changed the plan to move the pier and use a wall anchor to repair the bulging wall. The senior tech who helped with the estimate came by several times and helped adjust the plan and explained all the changes to me. I don't have a problem with changes if we get to the right solution, and I think he did. After excavating and placing all the piers, they tensioned them all at the same time. They watched the cracks in the brick house to determine how much to lift the foundation. They didn't get all of the cracks to close as they'd hoped, but they improved the situation a lot. Then they re-filled the holes and repaired the basement floor. They had to work a bit late to finish the floor, then they came back the next week (Monday or Tuesday?) to put the basement sink and washer & dryer back in place. (They moved and replaced our cement sink, washer, and gas dryer with no problems.) They also patched up a downspout to help keep water out of the basement. Things that would have made me more confident about their work (1) Having a structural engineer on their staff to help explain things to me (2) Being more cautious about the condition of the foundation stone - our engineer said that the stone might be soft and need replacing but the Matthews crew was confident it wouldn't be a problem and I guess it wasn't. Excavating inside doesn't let you see the exterior of the stone where it would be degraded. The company does not do brick repair (like repointing to help close the cracks) or plaster repair or landscaping to help keep water away from the foundation. They did make some recommendations for additional work. It would be helpful if they could recommend vendors for the rest of the repairs. The repairs came with a good warranty.

So far so good. It's funny, I explored all of the methods (other companies use other methods) for this repair and chose this method on gut feeling alone. Those guys worked HARD. It's a tough job to dig those holes especially with the rock that was in my yard......did i mention how hard those guys worked? Only time will tell if the foundation ever moves again, because the cracks were very slight on my 50 year old home. Fingers are crossed! As far as professionalism goes, I was happy with the experience. From the salesman to the workers.

They are pretty good. They were on time. They showed up next day again with couple of things. More than one guy showed up. They charge by the job. There were two young guys and another one was person in charge. He use to come up to them and was very rude with them. I accept the fact that they couldn t finish the work in 1 day.

A crew of 4 or 5 appeared on the scheduled date. They informed me that one shrub would be dug up and might not survive being replanted, so I told them to dispose of it. They hand dug below the base of the bay but found problems with water lines on one side and with the way the concrete had been originally poured (tied into concrete porch area) on both sides, so could only install 1 jack on each side instead of 2. This was done and the holes back filled, but not very evenly. (As an avid gardener, this was significant to me. I'd expected really lousy soil would be exposed, but would have appreciated it be spread back more to grade.) The price was reduced accordingly. They re-caulked the brick areas where there had been gaps but at least one was very sloppy.

Very well. The installers showed up promptly and got right to work. They evaluated whether an additional anchor was required in the front corner and determined it was not. They worked quickly and quietly and completed the work in less time than was originally expected. They cleaned up everything. In addition, they gave us some helpful suggestions on things, that we could do to prevent water from continuing to impact the wall. This is the second time we hired Matthews, they installed anchors on the front foundation wall 10 years ago. We live in a wet area with heavy clay soil, so foundation problems like ours are common. Matthews knew just what needed to be done.

I dealt with Bud Norton. I thought this company did a great job. I shopped around and Matthews was the best of what was out there. I did however expect that a company like this would do an on site follow up and their clean up was good but not excellent.

The estimate was professionally done and their system was explained throughly by the salesman. I was concerned about damage to a large older tree and to my yard so I asked for the work to be done by hand and to limit the access of any large machinery on my lawn. The work was done over two days and I confirmed these requirements of work by hand with the two person crew. The second day we had some rain and wet snow and I was unable to be present and they took a bobcat and trenching machine onto my property and caused additional damge to my lawn and my deck. The work was done in a timely manner and within the established estimate However I have incurred some additional costs to repair my deck and bring in some top soil and seed to repair some areas of my lawn that were damaged.I would hire the company again but would be cautious of the crew doing the work and be sure to supervise. Their system and ancors are one of the best and priced competively.

I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH POSITIVE THINGS ABOUT THE CREW FROM MATTHEWS. DONNIE, TOM AND JOHN WORKED NON STOP FOR 3 DAYS FROM 7 AM UNTIL 9-10 PM. EVEN AFTER THEIR VEHICLES WERE BROKEN IN TO AND THEIR TOOLS STOLEN, THEY MANAGED TO COMPLETE THE JOB IN 4 DAYS. THEY WERE COURTEOUS, COMPETENT AND SKILLFULL IN THEIR DUTIES AND THEY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND THE NORMAL QUOTED ITEMS FOR THE JOB. THEY TREATED MY HOME AS IF IT WAS THEIRS. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IF YOU NEED YOUR WALLS STRAIGHTENED, THAT YOU CALL MATTHEWS. THEY WORK IN THE CENTRAL OHIO AREA SO DON'T LET THE ADDRESS SWAY YOU.
