BLUE RIVER SVC CTR

I made a detour to Blue River Reservoir on my way home one afternoon, to see if Blue River had jumped the banks. The McKenzie River area was starting to flood, and Blue River reservoir floods often. I came upon a family of 4 who had driven down into the mud flats in the reservoir. They were hopelessly stuck, not far from the rising waters. Through the local grapevine, Vern Langan was called for help. He arrived, and concluded that his 25,000 pound wrecker could not navigate the mud, as the area was to muddy and couldn't support the weight. The rain was coming down heavily, and the river was rising quickly. Initially, the stranded family understood that there wasn't anything Vern could do, so I took them to an area in cell range with a phone book available. Upon returning to the stuck vehicle, Vern and Maureen were present, as they had gone home and brought back a personal vehicle, (their truck) that was light enough to navigate the mud. As I stood from a vantage point above, I watched Vern pulled the stuck rig out. The Langan family went way above and beyond, as they didn't have to risk their own personal vehicle to help this young family. Yet, they did, and at the same time allowed the mother and 7 year old child in the family to remain in Maureen's car for warmth and safety. The actions and behavior of the Langan family went way beyond simple 'towing' services that day. They could have declined the request, but instead they did what they could to help. They are a fantastic example of great people running an honest company.
