We gave our notice and cleaned the apartment and had the agent for the company over to inspect the apartment before we left. We only were there for 7 months and with just 2 people living there, it was in fabulous shape when we left. The apartment was cleaned completely, all nail holes in the walls were patched and paint was touched up after that. The floors I cleaned on all fours to be sure no corners were missed. It was vacuumed throughout. I swept the outside to remove any accumulation of dirt that may have occurred or spider webs that had collected. The bathrooms were spotless and I even cleaned the tops of the exposed light bulbs. The stove and oven were cleaned with oven cleaner. The fridge was completely wiped out on the inside and outside. After the walk through the agent said that it looked good but that the blinds may need to be cleaned and the carpet would be shampooed as required by law. She didn't indicate that anything else needed attention. We talked at length after that as we did before because we were very friendly with her. After visiting with us for some time, she left and we signed the move out sheet. She said it would be a month before our deposit was refunded to us. It was my mistake not to read the sheet as I took her at her word that all was OK and that the blinds were the only thing in question. After all, she was there to inspect and advise us of any problems. She did not say anything was wrong, so I expected to get my refund minus the blind and carpet cleaning fee. I only got back $427.50 of a $900. deposit and the reason given was that it took 9 hours to clean and touch up paint. 9 hours?? I spoke to the management company and they were told by the agent that we were aware of the problems when she was there because she discussed it with us that day. That DID NOT happen. I fully expected most of my deposit refunded and am completely surprised and disappointed at this outcome of events. I talked to them and told my side of it but I don't imagine anything will change. This is my only recourse at this point and I am just saying that if you choose to live there you may want to factor a large part of the deposit into the rent. If this happened to us then it has and will happen to others.
