King & King Roofing

Dennis and his crew were very responsive and personable throughout the entire experience. I got two other quotes for repairs on our commercial building, both recommending a complete roof replacement. I was not prepared for the cost of such a large scale repair (roughly $25,000). When Dennis did his original estimate, he too felt the roof should be replaced, but understood our financial position. He gave me a very detailed verbal "walk through" on a repair approach that he felt would buy us 3-5 years on the existing roof at a price ($3000) within our budget. We also inquired about getting the moss removed and roof treated on our residence. His bid came in roughly $200 lower than the other companies I contacted. He did provide written estimates for both projects. My ONLY small complaint during the projects were that the bids were not very detailed as to the work that would be done. I spoke to Dennis about this and he assured me the details (ex. cleaning the gutters and surrounding grounds after the moss removal) would be taken care of, which they were.

Work crews arrived as scheduled, work was done as specified and we were kept in the loop throughout the projects. They pointed out to us a few areas on our home where the previous roofer (done before we bought the home) had failed to shingle under the eaves around some upstairs windows. While the areas weren't really exposed to the elements we had them repair them for an additional $150 including the materials. My wife, who was home during the process, commented to me on how impressed she was with how fast and hard the crew seemed to be working.

After the initial repairs were completed on the flat roof, he brought out a second team to inspect and do any touch ups as needed, saying a fresh set of eyes might notice something the other missed. Dennis provided a written guarantee with three free call backs in the event we should still have water problems on the commercial building. Based on the work they did and the overall experience I would use these guys again in a heartbeat for future work.

King and King was prompt to bid the job.  The worker was thorough in evaluating the roof.
The bid was in line with other roofing companies but was $325 higher than the company we chose.  I have to add that the company we chose was a one man operation and does general home care work and not roofs specifically.
When we called to accept the bid we were told that the work would have to be scheduled more than two weeks out.
The company we chose did the work within the week of bidding.
I called King and King the next week to check on the time our job was scheduled.  I talked to an office person who said my call would be returned.  It was not.
I know I called at least one more time, perhaps two more, before I finally got a return call.
I was told that they were hung up on a big job and would not be able to get to me for about a month.  At that point we chose to go with a different company.
I downgrade this highly rated company for the following reasons:

1. They did not initiate a call to me when they realized their work load was beyond their ability to serve me as they had bid.
2. They did not respond in a timely manner when I took the initiative to contact them about scheduling.

My sense was that the small job of roof cleaning -- promised on a certain date -- was not worth breaking part of a crew out of a bigger job.  I could live with that, actually.  But they needed to take the initiative to let the customer know in a much more timely manner.

I requested bids for this job from 7 contractors. 2 contractors were no-shows. The other 4 arranged for a block of time to meet (such as: Friday, between 2:00 and 5:00.) Dennis King set a specific time for our meeting, and arrived promptly. My first impression was that he valued my time. Mr. King is a true gentleman, and it quickly became obvious that he truly values his company's good name. Mr. King was always aware of what his crew was doing, the progress they were making, and checked frequently with me to see if I had concerns. The few concerns that I did have were addressed immediately and to my satisfaction. I would hire King & King to do any work on my house that needed to be done. I could not be happier with my experience.

King & King did a great job. We solicited three bids from reputable companies. King & King gave a detailed estimate and walked us through it. Their bid was the lowest and saved us a significant amount over the next bidder, who offered the same product and services. Gary was very personable and stuck to his word and commitments throughout the job.

King & King did not ask for a partial payment until the night before the work started. The work crews were friendly and cleaned up each night at the end of the work. The fininished job looks fantastic, as the neighbors commented on what a good job and look the new roof has.

They were very thorough with the bid, and excellent with their follow up. We had three different bids and they were easily the most friendly, and the bid was quite competitive. One of the owners was there the entire time the roof was installed. They were very careful and considerate of our property, making sure all was cleaned up prior to leaving each day. There were a few things we asked them to do 'mid' project, and they did so without hesitation. We also had them put gutters on our shop, and they look great. This company is top notch!

The experience was great.  They were very good.  It was a great price.  They did a good job and cleaned up.

On 1st day (Sunday-9:00 am), the roofing crew showed up and  took off the old roofing, all the way down to the plywood, and laid down new black tarp for tomorrow's roofing.   Next day, "Allied Building" showed up (8:15am) and delivered the Oakridge Shingles -"Estate Gray".  The roofing crew showed up (9:15am) and worked until 4:45pm putting in place the new shingles.   During this process, the crew ended up taking out, temporarily, our Skylights so that the roofing can proceed.  This cause a mess in our Bathrooms and Stairwell; I had to clean up after each roofing session.  Other than this, they cleaned up the old staples from the old roof that was laying around the house/yard. Special NOTE:  King & King used only Nails and not Staples for secure the roofing in place.                             These shingles should withstand about 130 mph winds.  

We had a roof that was over 20 years old (approximately 1600 sq.ft. plus a large 2-car garage area).  My husband called King & King after several other companies to be sure that there would be no issue with undocumented workers because we wanted to keep our legal, local workers employed.  This company was the only one who could qualify in that respect. Dennis King came out the next day.  When it was explained what we wanted, he wrote up the estimate.  He was very professional.  We also were having solatubes installed as well as an attic fan.  Dennis informed us he hadn't prepared roofing for these items, but would learn & do his best. The company offered a 3-year guarantee on defective workmanship & a 30-year manufacturer's pro-rated warranty on defective shingles.  No claims have been made on any of it as of this report.  It took 9 hours to complete the work.  Dennis also offered us a senior discount of $89 with no hesitation. We were very impressed with their professionalism, speed & cleanliness.  After each work period, they diligently checked for all nails/hardware around the home.  They picked up debris from the roofing & took it with them.  They were polite, arrived when they said they would (quite early in the day) & worked well into the late afternoon.  All in all, a very clean, professional job.  Our roof looks beautiful & we've had no problem since it was installed, including the caps/flashings for the solatubes, which they also did a great job on. We would definately  use them again.  In fact, we are considering having them roof a large monitor barn (2 sloped areas & large main roof area), 10'x10' wood shed & 10'x20' chicken house this year.

I wasn't even home when they did the job. The job wasn't big enough to compare it to anything. It was a small job. I was satisfied that they didn't leave any debris. I called him, and he came out that same afternoon.

On November 2, 2010 a crew of four removed all of the old shingles, removed all existing nails. Installed 15# felt. November 3, 2010 replaced defective sheathing,installed a 2x6 x 8 facia, reflashed chimney with new riglets and started roofing. November 4, 2010 installed remainder of Owens Corning shingles. Painted all vent pipes and flashings. What I liked about the roofing experience was that the same 4 workers that tore the old roof off, were the same 4 that installed the new roofing. They are a great company with great employees, and I would recommend them very highly.

I looked in Angie's List for a good roofer. King & King had 26 reports - all A's! (Even for price!) I called for an estimate in the PM and they were here the next AM. I told them that I lost a few shingles off a ridge cap on the north end of the house in a recent wind storm. He offerred to go up and take a look. I went with them to be educated about the condition of the roof. He saw where the shingles were missing and why- he showed me that they had been improperly installed. He inspected the entire roof. He showed me what was good about the roof, too. He showed me issues with the roof that I could do myself that would prolong the life of the roof. He didn't try to sell me something I did not need, or ask for. We agreed on a price of $200. He showed up exactly when he said he would. He honored a 25% discount coupon for repairs from their website. He offerred to personally come over and fix anything if the repair did not hold up.

Dennis was always quick to respond with answers to any questions. There was no pressure to make the descision on which roofer to hire. He seemed sincerely concerned that I get all the information I needed and that whatever decision I made - it should be my decision - not a sale. He provided several homes to look at based on the roof colors we were considering - that was a significant factor in the final decision. We had one oops; one of the lateral slats (1x4 I think) that was used to secure the shakes had a knot in it that was facing down - when the roofer stepped slightly off the truss while installing the plywood, the slat broke and he went thru (no injury - except to his pride). As luck would have it, that slat was over the only room with a vaulted ceiling. Dennis and his crew worked with us, making sure the hole was fixed to our satisfaction (repair, texture and paint).

Mr. King was involved in the entire process. His crew had a positive attitude and informed me of their progress. The work was done in a timely manner. The work was started and completed within the time stated (even though it was an estimate). I am satisfied with the result.

I was very pleased with the professionalism of this company. They were courteous and responsive. I appreciated that they were honest in describing just what the job would entail. There was no effort to over sell the need. After the work was completed I received a follow up call, from the owner of the company, checking to see if I was satisfied with the company's service. I highly recommend the services of King & King. I will certainly be using them for future roofing needs.

These guys are good! Mr. King was first to respond to my requests for bids for a new roof and the first to submit a bid. He personally answered the phone each time I called with questions about details. He personally supervised while his crew got started and described in detail what they were doing and what they were going to do next. I'm too old to be doing roofs; I've put two roofs on two houses in the past, so I've got a good idea of how it's done. This time I just stood back and watched this crew work swiftly, neatly, and cleanly. They did in several days what would have taken me half the summer - that is , if I still had the energy - and they always made a point of explaining to me exactly what they were doing in a friendly and gracious manner.

This company is fantastic. They are punctual, polite, detail oriented and finished in a timely manner. Their workmanship is exceptional. They did an amazing job with all debris removal and cleanup. I would highly recommend them and will definitely call them again for any future needs.

From the first phone call which Mr. King answered himself to the final communication all was handled well. There were no surprises, only complete follow through. I will use his service in the future and if I need anything roofing related he will be my first call. Excellent service and quality.

Good experience, once I found out what was wrong and needed to be fixed, it was fixed the next dry day. They folded up the tarp that was covering the problem and laid it next to my house.

Can't praise Dennis King and his crew enough. He was not able to give us an exact quote on some of the repair work as he couldn't tell the extent of the damage until they tore the old roof off. He actually came in several hundred dollars UNDER estimate as the damage wasn't as extensive as originally thought. The estimate for the rest was right on target. It rained the day after they started and the crew was there first thing in the morning to check that we had no leaks in to the house until they could resume work. His crew was polite, informative and professional. They cleaned up everything, including what dropped through the skylight holes into the house. Also, his estimate was WAY under competing companies, one of which told me they couldn't meet his estimate because they were a "high end" company. Dennis and crew will absolutely be invited to our house warming when we finish our remodel. Thanks you guys!

The two employees who came out quickly evaluated the problems and very efficiently placed a visqueen cover over the damaged roof and we received an estimate for roof replacement within a couple of days.

He did a good job. He was knowledgeable and on time. His price was fair. I am happy with the final product.

Mr King came to our home and gave us an estimate, including discounts (senior/Angie's list). The job started on schedule and was done in a timely manner. The workers were prompt and pleasant and did an excellent job of cleaning up after their work. There was a mistake made in the type of shingle being put on but this was corrected quickly and without cost to us. We are pleased with the roof and our new solar tubes which will brighten up rooms this winter!!
