Description of Work: T Mix replaced the roof on my house. Many of my neighbors had used TMix and were satisfied so I hired him without any qualms. My first hint of concern came when his estimate was for 40 squares of roofing material. I told him I had reroofed it myself in 1976 and only used 30, but he was adamant that there would be much wastage due to the roof profile etc. I assumed wrongly he would adjust the price when he ended up using less materials. The day the job was completed I took inventory of the bundles still stacked up on my lawn and they totaled exactly 10 squares. That very day they were picked up and returned to the supplier. However, when I received the bill it was for the original estimate, as though all 40 squares plus associated materials and labor had been used. I challenged this billing and it was not contradicted, but if I had not kept track of the returned materials I would have paid thousands of dollars more. Other complaints have to do mainly with lack of oversight of the work crew. I didn't see Todd himself at all during the week they were here. Many of the promises he made about protecting my plants and historic house were ignored. And with the first rain I discovered a major leak next to my chimney that damaged the walls in an upstairs bedroom. That was when I learned from T Mix that they are not responsible for the proper flashing around chimneys. I ended up paying hundreds of dollars more and having the flashing job redone several times before solving the leak. This last problem could have been avoided if I had been informed from the outset and could have coordinated the flashing project. In fact, much of the issues that caused dissatisfaction could have easily been avoided with good communication and supervision. I have a very attractive roof now, but getting it was not fun.

Response from T Mix Roofing
In respone to [name removed] review - This roof has many faces to it and figuring up an exact measurement of squares needed with the Paramount shingle type [name removed] chose was difficult. I ordered extra shingles to be sure there were enough on site to complete the job. When the job was completed there were left over materials. Unfortunately our office person did not realize there were overs and billed the job. [name removed] did bring this to our attention, a price was agreed upon and an adjusted invoice was sent. Our foreman on this job had been with us for many years and was on site every day. While the job was in progress it was brought to [name removed] attention that the counter flashing on the chimney needed attention and it was beyond our scope of work. We recommended a chimney company and a bid was provided to [name removed]. He declined it.

I had gotten about 4 estimates before I came across T-Mix. My realtor suggested them. They were able to come out soon after the call to take a look at the job and spent time with me going over products, technique and time frame. I tend to ask a LOT of questions and they answered all of them directly. They showed up on time to start the job and finished when they said they would. Were clean, fast and courteous on site. No additional charges tacked onto bid. In my 5 bids I had gotten, they were next to the lowest. I would definately suggest them to others.
Description of Work: Complete pull off of 1200 sq. foot 1905 house. Had all the layers that could ever be put on without the roof falling in. Also had 2 places where supports were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Estimated that it would be a two-day job, weather permitting. Thing is, the weather didn't permit - it rained for four straight days while the shingles and drop box sat in the driveway. Then, finally, Thursday morning arrived cloudy but without precipitation and the T. Mix crew arrived shortly thereafter. I think they'd planned to bring four guys, but came with seven and finished the planned two-day job in one (about nine total hours). It looks to me like excellent work, too. And, besides the dumpster full of old roofing, you could hardly tell they'd been there - did a great job of cleaning up the yard and driveway. Pre-job, Debbie was very helpful and responsive on the phone, and the original bid - while not the highest or lowest - was competitive and completely reasonable given the scope of work. Highly recommended.

The installation process was done perfectly. We had a bit of an issue with a damaged gutter; however, they said that damaged gutters are expected in roofing installation, and they replaced our gutters free of charge. The new gutters were even nicer than the other ones!

They responded quickly. They were very clear with the price from the beginning. I was pleased that they did not add to the price in the end. I was in New Mexico during the project and the work was being done in Washington so they let me do all of the work over the phone, which was great. I thought that their price was perfect.

Nice experience. Todd was very friendly and arrived when he said he would. Gave us many options and suggestion for our roof. One of the roofers put a hole in our ceiling, but we called Todd at TMIX and he had someone come out and fix the problem. Our ceiling looks as good as new. One of our bird feeders was broken in the process, but Todd insisted on paying for a replacement. Our roof looks great, and no more leaks on the side of our house.

I solicited three bids for the replacement of the shingles on my roof, and Todd came in about 30% less than the lowest bid. He used a brand of architectural shingles that I hadn't heard of, but my online research proved them to be an affordable, acceptable substitute for the fancier brands. Todd scheduled my job within a month of when he gave me my estimate. The work was finished in about 3 days. His team protected my landscaping and did a good job cleaning up after the tear off (no complaints from my neighbors). When I sold the house a year later and the buyers had questions about the flashing and sealing he'd installed, he was on site within a day to photograph and provide a clear description of why he'd performed the installation in the way that he did, satisfying my buyers and saving me hundreds of dollars in concessions. My only complaint is his team cut the holes for the attic vents without warning me in advance, and I came home to insulation and wood shards all over my suitcases and storage boxes.

It was very easy to contact Todd or Debbie to schedule estimates and met for appointments. TMix was the lowest estimate BY FAR. We booked the work to be completed and Todd told us in advance that there may be extra costs based on the estimate because they may have to replace potentially rotted wood. I specifically requested that the roofers pay special attention to the facia wood on the house since it did not look very good from the ground looking up. We knew facia board replacements would cost extra. Job was completed without surprises including tear off, new roof and new gutters (I think a sub did gutters). Gutters are rather sloppy in that the tie downs were not cut off and there are many stragglers sticking out 8"-10". When we double checked the job my husband was delighted with the new look of the roof. He did find 2 facia boards in the back of the house that were clearly rotting and needed to be replaced. Workers came back out and replaced 2 facia boards that should have been included originally. It was extra money to have the facia board replaced the 2nd time around. That was to be expected. Overall would recommend T-Mix and enjoyed working with them. Getting billed was actually quite difficult. We called twice to get a bill and finally, months later a bill showed up.

We had a house that was going on the market and came to the realization that the condition of the roof might prevent it from selling and would need to be looked at by someone who could tell us exactly what condition it was in. We wanted the home to go on the market as soon as possible and hadn't planned on needing a new roof. At the advice of a friend I called T. Mix Home Detailing and set up a time for an estimate. Luckily he was able to come to the house within the week. Todd Mix showed up on time and was professional and courteous and went right to work on looking at the roof. I wanted to know if 1. The roof was at least good for 5 yrs., could it be repaired and treated to get it to last beyond 5 yrs., how much would it cost and the cost of a new roof. He took pictures and recommended a new roof after explaining why. We decided to go with Todd to do the roof as his bid was very reasonable. Two weeks later we had a new roof and were pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Replaced old cedar shake roof with 30 yr. architectural shingles. Removed shake roofing, checked for loose, split and dry rot sheathing. Installed 1/2" exterior plywood, new 30#lb felt, new black drip metal, new rubber boot pipe jacks, new roof flashing where required @ chimney, walls, etc., new metal roof vents, new back up and W metal valleys new colored T metal. Installed Pabco premier 30 yr. architectural shingles, starters and new hip and ridge shingles according to manufacturer's specs. Cleaned up and hauled away outside roofing debris and cleaned roofing debris from gutters.

The work seems well done. Because of the rainy weather they only took materials off the roof in segments and made sure each roof segment was fully watertight - if unable to be completed--by the end of each work day. End of work could be as late as 7 p.m., well after dark. The materials were delivered right on time along with the dumpster. The three-day contracted job lasted a couple days longer because some neighbor told the crew that they were active CCand R's (Covenents, Codes, and Restrictions) which mandated putting on wooden shake roofs and disallowed composite shingle roofs. Our composite shingle roof looks sedate, very sturdy, will last between 40 and 50 years (longer than we will!) and any roof rules ceased to be covered by the CCand R's YEARS AGO. Still...work stopped for a couple days while all interested parties read their copies of the CCand R's to see WHAT ON EARTH was being complained about. Never did find any basis for this. It slowed down the work and lost us time.
Description of Work: The job was to remove an almost worn through wooden shake roof and take the debris away. Then to install CDX plywood (a pretty good grade of plywood we were told there is only one grade better). Over that they fastened tar paper and used 30-40 year graded composite shingles in a color of Pewter Grey. The shingles had been created in such a way that the copper elements in each shingle acts to slow down the growth of moss that any roof up here in Oregon is liable to get. They were to take special care in cleaning up and while working, not to damage a Japanese Maple that needed special care because of it's location just off the driveway and where workmen might walk or spill stuff. That maple alone as "off limits" because of its replacement cost of $20,000. No one wanted to pay for a new equivalent plant!

The project went well overall with a total of 3 days work on the roof. It was a split project as we received snow before the last day was done. If I had one complaint I would say that the billing process is quite slow. We are still waiting for our receipt and it took over 2 weeks for them to cash the check.

THE CREW DID A PROFESSIONAL JOB WITH THE ROOF. WE CANNOT SEE THE INSULATION BUT ASSUME IT WAS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. THE BALCONY EXTENSION WORK WAS A GOOD START, BUT THEY NEEDED MORE FINISHING WORK TO BE COMPLETE. WE FELT THE PRICE FOR THE ROOF WAS FAIR, BUT CHARGES FOR THE EXTENSIONS AND INSULATION WERE VERY HIGH. WE DO NOT HAVE AN ATTIC, AND THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY WE HAD TO ADD INSULATION WAS AS THE ROOF WAS BEING REPLACED. IT WAS OUR ERROR CONSIDERING THIS IDEA AT THE LAST MINUTE, WHEN IT WAS TOO LATE FOR US TO GET MULTIPLE ESTIMATES FROM ROOFERS THAT ALSO DO INSULATION. WE TRUSTED THE CONTRACTOR BECAUSE HIS ROOFING COSTS SEEMED FAIRLY PRICED AND WENT AHEAD WITH THE INSULATION SO WE WOULDN'T MISS THE CHANCE. HOWEVER, AFTER RESEARCHING THE COSTS FOR THE MATERIALS (ABOUT $400) AND CONSIDERING THE LABOR INVOLVED (THE PROJECT WAS COMPLETED AS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED SOME FRAMING NEEDED TO BE LIFTED TO LAY THE INSULATION IN), IT SEEMS LIKE WE WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF DUE TO THE SITUATION.
Description of Work: TEAR OFF OF SHAKE ROOFING. REPLACEMENT WITH 30 YEAR ARCHITECTURAL SHINGLES ($6,950). PARTIALLY EXTENDED ROOF ABOUT 2' OVER 2 BALCONY AREAS BY ADDING WOOD BLOCKS. PLYWOOD TO EXISTING FRAME (WE DID FINISH WORK WITH HELP OF ANOTHER CONTRACTOR)($910). ADDED A LAYER OF R-19 FIBERGLAS INSULATION BETWEEN ROOF RAFTERS PRIOR TO PLYWOOD/NEW ROOF INSTALLATION. THIS WAS OVER AN AREA APPROXIMATELY 1,400 SQ. FT. ($2,260).
