ROSE CITY ROOFING & SIDING

About one year ago, we started to experience leaking from several places
of the roof. Because our roof was still under warranty, I called Rose
City Roofing and the new owner came out to inspect the roof. He did not
go up on the roof to inspect it at anytime. His judgement, from
eyeballing it from the ground, was that some snow had melted and leaked
in through a vent and that there was nothing wrong with the roof. The
roof continued to leak every time it rained, I called Rose City Roofing and
scheduled several visits. They failed to come and keep any of the
appointments. No one would never call and tell me that they couldn't make a
scheduled appointment. After several months, I sent Rose City Roofing a certified
letter asking them to contact me and to uphold the five year warranty on
workmanship. They never responded to my letter.
I was forced to hire another roofer to make the repairs. They reported that flashing had been
improperly installed in one area, that flashing had been completely omitted in
another area, and that one of the  vent jacks was leaking. They recommended that all the other vent jacks be supplemented with a repair to keep them from leaking in the future.This repair cost me $832.00.
Below is the content of the letter I sent to Rose City Roofing.

Dear Mr. Moore:
Per our two telephone conversations on January 27, 2012, you
committed to come to my residence to address a leak in the roof your company
installed in May 2009. On February 2, 2012, you again said you would come to my
home to do an inspection. You did not come as promised any of these times. You
never called to let me know why you could not come and to set a date and time
to reschedule this inspection and any necessary repairs. I have lost more than a
day of work because of this. Also, you have not responded to any of the several
messages left regarding this matter. I understand that you may be very busy at
this time, given the heavy rains we have just experienced. Nevertheless, your
lack of responsiveness sets a perspective suggestive of another agenda all
together.
 
The contract we signed with your company specifies a five
(5) year warranty on workmanship and a 30-year warranty on shingles. We are
well within the warranty period for this contract. On your one visit to my home,
I showed you the area in my kitchen where the water was leaking in through a
ceiling light Neither you nor a representative from your company has gone up on
my roof to inspect and determine the potential source of the leak. I am asking
you to call me and schedule a professional inspection and repair as soon as
possible in order to avoid further damage to my home.
 
I have referred a number of potential customers to your
company. All I am asking now is that you honor the terms of the warranty in our
contract. Please call me as soon as you receive this letter and not later than
close of business on February 7, 2012 to schedule an inspection and repair of

Do not under any circumstance use this company!!
We had used them
several years ago and had a very good experience. Unfortunately the
owner passed the business to the son in law who is, in our opinion, a
crook! Our estimate included supplies but several weeks after
installation we got a lien notice from the supplier. Rose City did not
pay its supplier and we were left paying another $2100 for roofing
materials which we had already paid them for.
It took 10 months and
dozens of hours to file a claim with the CCB, suit in small claims
court, and follow up with the bonding company before being reimbursed.
During the whole process Rose City never responded to us, the CCB, or
the small claims court!
After all of this, we have discovered that
all of the flashings were done incorrectly and we will now have to incur
another expense to fix the issues.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Don't hire Rose City Roofing unless you want a lien on your house.  I contacted Rose City Roofing because they were the roofing company our real estate agent got a quote from when we bought our house.  A year later when we were ready to start planning for the roof repair I contacted Ken Burns, the contractor who runs Rose City, and he said the quote was still valid but would go up 20% in two weeks.  I told him we needed more time to budget and plan for the expense, and that we'd feel more comfortable replacing the roof in the summer, even if the price was going to increase.  He kept calling me back and lowered his price each time until I agreed to hire him in March.  His laborers replaced our roof in three days and did a decent job. At the time, we were pleased, but just didn't know that he hadn't paid his roofing material supplier and we'd shortly have a lien on our house.  Once we got the intent to file a lien notice Ken assured me that it had been paid and we had nothing to worry about.  Then again once the lien was recorded, he assured me it had been paid.  Ken will tell you anything he thinks you want to hear to get you to sign the contract and to get you off the phone. When I called the material supplier with the lien on our house, they said he hadn't paid them any money in months and our lien bill had not been paid. I've tried contacting him repeatedly about it, but he either says he'll pay it the next day and doesn't call me back, or just doesn't answer my calls. DON'T HIRE ROSE CITY ROOFING!!!

They didn't clean up the project very well. There were old roofing shingles and nails all around the yard and garden. The gutters were not put up very well and despite several requests for them to fix them, they have yet to return a call or come back to fix the work.

Did a poor job. That same year shingles were flying off the roof in the wind. In addition, the place where the roof met the dormer siding was done very sloppily. They chopped away the siding to get the metal underneath, and it looks terrible!

Rose City Roofing did a good job as per estimate and charged the estimate price. No leaking was our goal and they met that challenge.

Workers unprofessional. Problems with the initial work, when they worked at correcting the work it got worse. No return calls from the company. Had to go to contractors board to get resolution. Horrific experience. I would NOT recommend this company. They were low bid and there was a reason it seems.

Of three bids I received, they were competitively priced. The staff was responsive and friendly. I went to pick out shingles on my lunch hour, and the supply shop owner said I was in good hands which made me feel reassured. They were even accommodating when I changed my mind on the shingle choice at the last second. The roof looks good, and there are no problems a year later.

When the heavy rains came this winter, my roof started showing signs of leakage just under the dormers. I had a couple roofing companies come and out and give me a bid and tell me what was wrong. The original person who roofed this house didn't use any flashing where the dormer siding meets the shingled roof. Hence no matter what, it would leak until it was installed correctly. Rose City Roofing was able to come out right away, assess the situation, provide an estimate that was half the amount of the others. They also spotted some other trouble spots which nobody else mentioned. Micheal and his partner are genuine hard working guys that tell you how it is, effectively describe the process and take care of business. They are proud of the work they do. They are kind of rough-edged (part of the trade) but a very easy company to work with.

Made a call for estimate. A few days later, guy came out for estimate. We agreed to price, product & service. Old man & young guy show up to do job. We now have new gutters that leak. We called next day after job was complete. Same old man, practically blind out of one eye, can hardly walk, showed up at our house at 7:30pm to get on a ladder to find leak. Gutters are still leaking, spoke to lady in office, said she knew nothing of old man coming out a 2nd time and will send someone to repair ''still leaky'' gutters. Someone came to house, took more measurements and have not been back. We still have leaky gutters with a promise that it will someday get fixed. We are still finding debris such as nails & gutter pieces from this job thru our back/front yard and in the driveway. One area of our gutters were pieced together because the crew ran out of material. Now this company has been paid and services are still not completed! No way would I recommend this company to anyone!!

The same day I called Reuben Henry came to the house to determine the cause of the leak. He was knowledgeable, and did not try to sell services over what was required. The next day two roofers arrived and spent 90 minutes making the repairs. The work was done professionally and the price was very reasonable.

After a call to Rose City Roofing, Reuben and an assistant came over to patch a leak the next day during a very rainy streak. He gave me a quote for a new roof and did not charge for the leak repair. Within two weeks (during the first dry spell), he sent two employees to begin work on the roof. It took 3 days to tear off and replace the roof, and another day to clean up. The roof looks very good. Clean-up was not perfect, and we're still finding an occasional nail in the yard. The roofers were not very careful with the plants around my house, and they put a piece of fencing right on top of a dormant rose bush, but I believe everything will live. Though everyone I dealt with was friendly and informative, I wished at times for more communication from their end.

Company representatives came within 24 hours of call during period of heavy demand to repair leaks due to heavy rains; promptly diagnosed source of leak; up front about minimum charge and cost of repair; performed repairs immediately and expeditiously despite continuing rain.

I called late on a Monday afternoon about a leak that was occurring around the main stack vent pipe on the roof. They were there early the next morning and took care of the problem and also checked other areas of the roof to make sure they were alright. They were prompt and courteous. Since then we have had heavy rains and all is well.

DID THE JOB IN ONE DAY WHICH WAS AMAZING, THE ROOF LOOKS GREAT AND STILL LOOKS BRAND NEW AFTER 1 YEAR.

VERY PROFESSIONAL, TIMELY, POLITE. NICE, FRIENDLY PEOPLE WHO DID A GOOD JOB. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND THEM.
