Mel and his sons did good work. I’d hire again.

My floors had a ancient dark finish and were covered by carpeting for more than 30 years. There was some water damage to the floor and prior wear not visible until the carpet was removed. Mel provided a concise project plan, expert ideas on finishing and for how to make a difficult transition to the kitchen, and offered a very reasonable price, Mel worked quickly on the living room, dining room, and bedrooms; cleaned up each day, and left the floors more beautiful than I could have imagined. He installed new a oak quarter-round base shoe throughout the living and dining area and the effect with the natural wood color is stunning. There were a few minor punch list items and he took care of them quickly and efficiently. I’m very happy with the work that was performed, value Mel’s work ethic and craftsmanship, and would not hesitate to use him again or recommend him to others. Highly recommended!

I did have to call them back to re-light the pilot on my gas furnace, but they did so promptly, so this was a very minor problem.

Mel and his team are very experienced and skilled craftsman. They did a wonderful job on our old 1948 wood floors for a very fair price. The only surprize for us was the heavy fumes and the amount of time we needed stay out of the house..

Mel and his sons did a superb job. I had many questions before the work began, which Mel answered, although it interfered with the other jobs he was managing, apparently. Tips to optimal results: At the time of an estimate, establish precise terms. Mel did not give us a written contract, so we were concerned that everything would go well. Keep excellent lines of communication on both parties. Be prepared to pay about 50% of the job before they begin, and specify that you will pay the remainder after you have seen and approved of the completed work. Ask for photos/samples of other jobs. Mel educated me about the type of oak floor we have, how to take care of them, and what is advised for proper care of the floor. He is also very knowledgeable of water-based vs oil-based finish, and can apply either type. Mel could have received a 5-star rating if his customer service matched the quality of the work.

Floors are beautiful. I was expecting major dust disaster but they kept doors closed, and it just was not a problem. Only issue was payment. I had planned to pay with a card and confirmed that option with owner, but at the end found out they stopped taking cards due to hassle with reader. Took off one service star. Would use them again and will recommend.

Mel and son did a wonderful on refinishing a new fir floor in our home. Other refinishers said job was too small or based bid on minimum square footage which was twice the area of our project. Good job!

We wanted to refinish existing hardwood floors and add new hardwood in two adjoining rooms. The new floors were laced in beautifully and all were refinished so well you can't tell they were installed at different times (20 years apart). Mel did an outstanding job and was a pleasure to work with.

Pioneer was great to work with. Mel provided a quick estimate and worked with us to get in as soon as possible and get to work. He didn't say they were the worst floors he'd ever seen, but 58 years of smoke and grime take their toll. You would not believe the before and after pictures - the work is stellar and the floors are amazingly restored mid-century original hardwood. Gone are the grime and grit, the hight heel marks, the smoke damage. The work was extremely well done and Mel is a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended, and my bro-in-law, a general contractor, took his name to refer to others for any hardwood needs.

They came in did what we had ask and did it very professionally. I was definitely happy with the results.

Worked with Mel on a wood floor restoration and it was finished very fast (3 days) and done really, really well. We're very happy with the work he did (both in restoring our old floor and seamlessly rebuilding the damaged areas). Super pleasant to work with, was fair, and I would absolutely recommend him :)
