Phillips came out May 7 and looked at my existing wired Pillips alarm system to determine what was needed to replace my failed alarm/keypad. We discussed a display that would clearly show status in text not just numbers 1 - 8. I received a quote for a "Master Alarm system/display for $595." At that time I had no way to compare the system in the quote since the model number of the equipment to be installed was not specified. Seemed high since no wiring would be required. Phillips installed the new alarm and display using existing wiring on May 22. After seeing the keypad it clearly was a low end system, little better than my old 25 year old display. I had no idea how low end it was until I researched it. I'm a retired EE type so am more than capable of comparing specs. The installed display is available for ~$50, though no longer listed on the Napco web page. There is an updated version with a LCD display that would have been about $25 more. The alarm hardware itself sells for ~$100. I questioned what I paid $595 for and was told it was "probably" $295 for parts and $300 for labor. Twice I requested a more definitive breakdown of cost, but have not received a response in over a month. I am obligated to pay what I signed up for, lesson learned. But I would encourage any prospective customers to shop around and demand to know exactly what alarm system will be installed and how much labor would be required.
Response from Phillips Electronics
"First, I would like to say that as a local family company providing quality customer service is very important to us. I have personally reached out to [Member Name Removed] multiple times to review with him the information I have collected about his recent service and to see what we can do for him to show our dedication to quality customer service. Unfortunately, I have not been able to reach [Member Name Removed] and hopefully this will prove to be a better medium to reach him. As for some of [Member Name Removed]'s statements I feel there needs to be some clarification. We have several options available to provide security. Our newest equipment is going to have more capabilities and more current aesthetics. We also can present the option to use older equipment that may not have certain features but may be less expensive to meet the customer's needs. Additionally, it is very important to us to do everything we can to meet our customers' expectations. That is why on the day of the installation [Member Name Removed] expressed concern about the equipment and even though the consultant was on vacation we called him and informed him about [Member Name Removed]'s concerns. So, while on vacation, our consultant attempted to contact [Member Name Removed] to answer and questions and make sure [Member Name Removed] is happy with his experience with us. Our consultant has also attempted several times since the installation to reach [Member Name Removed]. Each time he has not been able to reach him and our consultant has left a message. It is unfortunate that [Member Name Removed] feels it necessary to write this review, but if he or anyone else ever wants to contact us with questions about the services we provide, our office is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and your call will be answered by a live person to help you with your needs. Casey Phillips"

It went very well. They were able to update the old system and give me a new digital control box with the features I was interested in. They didn't try to sell me a whole new system. They were very responsive to my requests for replacing worn out parts but not scuttling the old system which has worked well since the early eighties.

Great experience with my service so far. I'm a first-time home buyer in the Roseway neighborhood of NE Portland. It's a good neighborhood, but it's admittedly a little rough on the edges (especially the closer you get to 82nd Ave). I figured I should get an alarm system for peace of mind. I was hesitant about doing this because I was worried about the price and the long-term contract (I didn't want another company like my cable/internet to deal with). A friend recommended Phillips to me. I spoke with Casey at Phillips about the initial installation. He went over the types of alarm systems typical for a house like mine. I didn't want anything fancy, and I never felt pressured to upgrade to a more expensive system. He was clear about the costs. The tech that came out for the installation was courteous and professional. Over the past 6 years I've had one or two issues with the motion detection sensors, but Phillips has been great about responding to, and fixing, the issues quickly. It's nice to call the company and get a person on the line promptly who can help with any questions. I also feel good about supporting a local Portland company. Definitely pleased with my service so far, and I would recommend Phillips for your alarm system.

Excellent. With Protection One, we were constantly getting false alarms or a system that seemed engaged and then would trigger a break in alarm for no reason...usually when we were out of town.
Phillips came, gave us a quote to replace/upgrade system with better equipment. Overall install cost was in the 300-400 range. Monthly monitoring fee is less than half of Protection One. And, we have had NO problems since making the switch. Recommend them unconditionally, as a responsive and responsible local vendor.

Brian displayed extensive knowledge about my burglar alarm system, even though it was over 25 years old and had equipment that is no longer used by Phillips.  He found the source of the problem, replaced the battery and got the system working again -- all on Christmas Eve afternoon!  It took awhile to determine what was wrong, but Brianwas extremely patient and answered all my questions.  I will definitely use Phillips Electronics again.  (For privacy reasons, please do not include in this review the address where work was performed.  Thank you.)

we are very pleased so far with the professional service and the attention to detail. This company informed us of several permits that would be required that the other company did not. The estimate was thorough. The person - David Smith - was thorough, on time and professional. He respected our wants and needs.

We called Phillips to install an alarm in our home. We let them know we were undergoing significant harassment (divorce from an abuser) and that it was a matter of when somebody broke in, not if. This is critical info to our story. They said they understood the situation.

They came in and walked around the house and made a recommendation for an install. Curiously, they recommended a wireless system despite our house being pre-wired for an alarm. We asked about and they said this was the best way to go. The install went fine. About a month later (maybe 2) we had another couple of monitors installed. This also went fine.
After a few months we started having issues. Things were disappearing while we were away. Somebody was clearly inside the house at night (we heard them), and there was vandalism to our home. This was puzzling because we had the alarm.
I then did a little research. In 10 minutes I found a device for sale that disables all wireless devices within a certain radius. Anybody can buy this device. You turn it on, and all wireless communications within range simply stop working. The alarm was rendered completely useless by a simple device that anybody can buy.
I called Phillips and told them what was happening. They told me they had never heard of such a device and doubted that it worked. I told them we were clearly having break-ins with no evidence of forced entry. This was the only thing that made sense. And verifying the effectiveness of the wireless disrupting device was not hard to do. How could people in the security business not be aware of this.
So I asked Phillips what they could do? They offered to come redo my alarm using hard wires at a reduced rate. No credit for the $2500 I had already spent on a worthless alarm system. Another company was able to install a hard wired alarm for the same price as the Phillips wanted. I could not see a reason to spend more money with them, so I had another system installed.
I was not happy, but was willing to chalk up the $2500 to bad judgement on my part and walk away. But that wasn't the end of it. I had signed a 3-year contract with them for monthly monitoring. And they wanted their monthly feed despite that the alarm was worthless to me and that I was not using it. I continued to pay for a while, and then stopped. About 6 months after my contract expired the sent a bill for the balance to collections.
I paid the balance and am considering what alternatives I have to get some of this money back.
Summary: they installed a practically worthless alarm, did not want to remedy this, and charged me for an ongoing service fee after I stopped using the alarm that was worthless.

They answer questions fully, arrive on time, and are very professional. There are some systems on the market which are perhaps a little cheaper, but with Phillips you can trust that their decades of experience, on-site installation, and on-going service will give you a reliable product.

They are professional and thorough. They're independently owned, it is not part of a franchise. They're a Portland owned company. The same people have worked for them over the past 25 years that I know of. They are trustworthy and very responsive to any service call or annual service. They are very accommodating.

They are prompt and efficient. Thankfully they have yet to respond to an alarm, but I would feel comfortable in the event that I would have an alarm at my home. My husband inadvertently set off the alarm once and they were very understanding and friendly on the phone. Price is paid quarterly for the monitoring service.

I like the fact that they were very personal. It seemed that they had the small business mentality that wanted to make the customers feel valued. I like the quality of this company and their reputation. We will continue to use this company in the future.

The work went very well. Jim came and installed the two sliders and tested that they worked with the alarm system. I also have an alarm contract with this company. The system has never false alarmed in the four years that I have used the system.

It went very well. I was in the middle of a large project at work at the same time I purchased the house and was having the alarm bids done, so David came to my office to go through the quote. He was the only one of the three alarm companies who explained all my options. The install price was the best of the three. The monthly fee was in the middle. As for the actual install, Reno was very courteous, worked around all the other work I also had done on the house. I would recommend highly.

GOOD SERVICE. BEFORE INSTALLATION, THEY TOOK TIME TO WALK THROUGH MY HOUSE, AND ANSWER ALL MY QUESTIONS PATIENTLY, AND THOROUGHLY. I WAS PARTICULARLY IMPRESSED BECAUSE THERE WAS ONE THING I WAS CONSIDERING HAVING THEM INSTALL THAT THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T THINK I'D NEED. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY WERE MORE INTERESTED IN HELPING ME FIGURE OUT WHAT I NEEDED, THAN IN JUST SELLING ME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THEY ALSO DIDN'T USE SCARE TACTICS, WHICH I HEAR SOME ALARM COMPANIES DO TO MAXIMIZE SALES. MY MOM ALSO HAS HAD PHILLIPS FOR MANY YEARS, AND IS VERY HAPPY WITH THEM.
