"First, I would like to say that as a local family company providing quality customer service is very important to us. I have personally reached out to [Member Name Removed] multiple times to review with him the information I have collected about his recent service and to see what we can do for him to show our dedication to quality customer service. Unfortunately, I have not been able to reach [Member Name Removed] and hopefully this will prove to be a better medium to reach him. As for some of [Member Name Removed]'s statements I feel there needs to be some clarification. We have several options available to provide security. Our newest equipment is going to have more capabilities and more current aesthetics. We also can present the option to use older equipment that may not have certain features but may be less expensive to meet the customer's needs. Additionally, it is very important to us to do everything we can to meet our customers' expectations. That is why on the day of the installation [Member Name Removed] expressed concern about the equipment and even though the consultant was on vacation we called him and informed him about [Member Name Removed]'s concerns. So, while on vacation, our consultant attempted to contact [Member Name Removed] to answer and questions and make sure [Member Name Removed] is happy with his experience with us. Our consultant has also attempted several times since the installation to reach [Member Name Removed]. Each time he has not been able to reach him and our consultant has left a message. It is unfortunate that [Member Name Removed] feels it necessary to write this review, but if he or anyone else ever wants to contact us with questions about the services we provide, our office is open Monday through Friday 8 to 5 and your call will be answered by a live person to help you with your needs. Casey Phillips"
Phillips came, gave us a quote to replace/upgrade system with better equipment. Overall install cost was in the 300-400 range. Monthly monitoring fee is less than half of Protection One. And, we have had NO problems since making the switch. Recommend them unconditionally, as a responsive and responsible local vendor.
They came in and walked around the house and made a recommendation for an install. Curiously, they recommended a wireless system despite our house being pre-wired for an alarm. We asked about and they said this was the best way to go. The install went fine. About a month later (maybe 2) we had another couple of monitors installed. This also went fine.
After a few months we started having issues. Things were disappearing while we were away. Somebody was clearly inside the house at night (we heard them), and there was vandalism to our home. This was puzzling because we had the alarm.
I then did a little research. In 10 minutes I found a device for sale that disables all wireless devices within a certain radius. Anybody can buy this device. You turn it on, and all wireless communications within range simply stop working. The alarm was rendered completely useless by a simple device that anybody can buy.
I called Phillips and told them what was happening. They told me they had never heard of such a device and doubted that it worked. I told them we were clearly having break-ins with no evidence of forced entry. This was the only thing that made sense. And verifying the effectiveness of the wireless disrupting device was not hard to do. How could people in the security business not be aware of this.
So I asked Phillips what they could do? They offered to come redo my alarm using hard wires at a reduced rate. No credit for the $2500 I had already spent on a worthless alarm system. Another company was able to install a hard wired alarm for the same price as the Phillips wanted. I could not see a reason to spend more money with them, so I had another system installed.
I was not happy, but was willing to chalk up the $2500 to bad judgement on my part and walk away. But that wasn't the end of it. I had signed a 3-year contract with them for monthly monitoring. And they wanted their monthly feed despite that the alarm was worthless to me and that I was not using it. I continued to pay for a while, and then stopped. About 6 months after my contract expired the sent a bill for the balance to collections.
I paid the balance and am considering what alternatives I have to get some of this money back.
Summary: they installed a practically worthless alarm, did not want to remedy this, and charged me for an ongoing service fee after I stopped using the alarm that was worthless.
