PDX ENT & Audiology Medical Group - St Vincent

As of writing, I am still waiting to schedule a surgery from an initial consultation in early November. During my initial visit, Jen, the receptionist, was unfriendly and rude. We all have bad days, especially recently due to the challenges of the pandemic. No worries! However, my follow up appointment she adopted the same attitude. Maybe she hates her job...I'll give her another pass. Typically, I wouldn't include this in a review, but what collectively occurred during my experience with PDX ENT I am obligated to share all the details. Her attitude also continued during multiple phone calls that I was forced to make because of the complete lack of communication. She dismissed my questions and denied facts about correspondence with my insurance, whether it was intentional, I'm not sure. Working with the doctor assistant, Elizabeth, was and continues to be a nightmare. There is absolutely no follow-up, unless of course, I call multiple times. During one phone call, I requested to schedule the surgery regardless of authorization. She explained Dr. Furr has 3 surgery sites and that she will call and follow up with me. Great! We might just be making progress and I'll be able to get in before the new year when my deductible resets. Again, no follow-up. Over a week passes, so, I call for an update and she hasn't called any sites and claims they don't schedule without authorization. Well, do you or don't you? In addition, there was an apparent error with pre-authorzation codes by my insurance. This may have been the case, but I'm skeptical since I spoke to insurance directly on multiple occasions. I've worked customer service jobs for several years and I understand how difficult they can be. It's not easy which is why it pains me to write this review. But I have given PDXENT too many chances at this point, and for the first time, ever, I am sharing a negative review. Dr. Furr seemed great and I was really excited to work with him and finally address my nose related sleep issues. But my experience has been utterly atrocious and I cannot under any circumstance recommend this practice. This has been the absolute worst customer service experience, ever.

Dr Patel is great. Very thorough and gentle throughout the exam and procedure. No pain at all. Great experience and would highly recommend this place!

Wonderful, he is really sharp

He is really good and his bedside manner is really good. It is a fabulous clinic. They are really known in Portland. They are really good about deciphering sinus issues. So many people think ear, nose, and throat doctors just want to go in and do surgery, but that's not the case with these guys. They go in and they are really thorough with their examinations. They still treat you like you are the first patient they have ever seen. It seems like a lot of people I know go to them. They have solid reputation.

Dr. Lewis was quick to get a current audiology report right there in his office on our 1st visit, and then thoroughly explained the results in easy to understand terms...He determined that, based on what he saw on the report that she needed to have an MRI done, which we did. We only waited a few short days before getting back in for a follow up appt. for Dr. Lewis to go over the results of the MRI.  He was almost excited to share the findings with us!  There were  2 bones that had grown together in my daughter's middle ear BUT surgery was an option to correct it!  He was very knowledgeable and encouraging about what could be done to help correct my daughter's hearing. Dr. Lewis made a special call on our behalf to the surgeon who he would be referring us to (Dr. Sterling Hodgson)as to explain the situation with my daughter &  our circumstances in needing to get the surgery done before the end of the year.  All turned out well! Surgery done within 5 weeks of seeing Dr. Lewis and our overall experience was GREAT with all the staff at this office.
We had taken our oldest child to Dr. Lewis approx. 18 years ago, when our son was just around 5 years of age. Though several years have passed between our two experiences with Dr. Lewis, and he has been in practice for many years; we found that Dr. Wesley Lewis is still the same professional. kind hearted, upbeat person he was 18 years ago.  He truly seems to enjoy his work.   I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing an ear, nose throat doctor.

I was experiencing vertigo but by the time I saw Dr. Lewis the vertigo problem was solved by doing exercises that I found online. Dr. Lewis confirmed that I helped myself by doing the correct exercises.
Then had my hearing tested, establishing a baseline and I will return in a year to recheck hearing. Dr. Lewis explained the results and I felt good about the overall experience.

Dr. Hertler was kind, compassionate, and skillfull.  He made us feel at ease immediately and he thoroughly explained the procedure and answered all of our questions, without making us feel rushed.  He was also very respectful of our daughter - even though she's only 25 months old, he talked to her and treated her like she was much older (i.e. like she understood everything).

It went great. My hearing has actually improved since he treated me, which is a bonus.

I had good experience with him.  He was really good at explaining things to me as a parent about what was going on.  He took a lot of time.  He surely understood.  I had another young child that I had to bring along to the appointment and he was really nice to my other child.  He tried to make the visit easier to me as a parent with having two young kids in the office.  He took an extra step to be really nice to my whole family and my young kids but not just the patient.  My daughter ended up having that surgery and he was equally attentive talking to us and trying to make my husband and I feel comfortable when we had our young child going in for a surgery.

He really listens to the clients and is very thoughtful.

Dr. Lewis is a fantastic doctor. He takes the time to answer questions about the surgery and feels it is important to follow up for as many visits as needed until you are happy with the outcome. He does not bill for these follow-up visits. His assistant Sara is friendly, helpful, and professional. I felt very comfortable with the entire process and would recommend him highly.

When we arrived, the waiting area was clean and conducive to children (toys), the staff was friendly, and the intake form was very thorough. Once in the exam room, my child became a bit nervous, as the exam chair was big and bulky, and the equipment attached to the chair looked different. We had to wait for ~15 minutes for the doctor to come in, which was difficult due to my child's discomfort with the surroundings. When he came in, the doctor was very thorough, and was very kind and gentle with my child (even played little games to build rapport). He also explained everything he was going to do before doing it, which made my child much more at ease. He was very careful not to hurt my child, even when he swabbed my child's throat (never even gagged). The things I would recommend they do are: make the rooms more child friendly (smaller chairs, or stuffed animals in them to make them friendlier), hide the 'scary equipment' that kids aren't used to seeing, and to reduce the wait time in the room (both before the doctor comes in, and if the doctor has to step out). Otherwise, I was very happy with the services received. It did take a week-and-a-half to get an appointment, so if you are thinking that you might need to see a specialist, schedule ahead.
