We were very happy with Oregon Chimney and would use them again. Steve came and gave us the quote. He addressed the issue of a chimney cap which we knew we needed and my husband had attempted to purchase off the shelf at a Home Depot or Lowes. However, due to the year of our house (1912) we couldn't find one that would work. Another company we got a quote from quoted us at least a couple hundred dollars higher and did NOT address the chimney cap or provide the water proofing service. So in a nut shell we got more work done for less. We selected Oregon Chimney because of the positive reviews we read on Angie's List, the quote, Steve made us feel like he and his crew would do a quality job, the quote was for less, and we had had mixed experience with the other company several years prior that we got the quote from. Steve and Shannon and the other gentleman (sorry, can't remember his name) were very prompt and friendly. They cleaned up as well as can be expected from grinding mortar. If we needed chimney work done again down the road (obviously of a different nature), I would request Steve and his crew. One thing that I found helpful since we are a single income family and generally speaking don't just have an extra $1,700 laying around, was that we paid half up front prior to the start of the work. The other half they billed us for after the chimney work was done. And we were billed separately for the waterproofing which was done a few weeks later. So it was manageable because we were able to break that $1,700 up into 3 payments.

They provided an estimate that seemed fair, even low. The representative who came to my house was friendly, but seemed a bit laisais-faire about the projectt. I worried that they wouldn't take the project seriously. So, we ultimately hired a different firm.

We used them a couple of years ago to repair our fireplace and clean it and they did a great job for a good price, so when we purchased our new home with five fireplaces and 37 heat ducts we decided to give them a try again. Two guys showed up on time and when they entered the house they removed their shoes even when I said it was ok to wear them. We toured the house and they started there work. They worked at a nice pace and completed the entire house within a few hours. When finished they went over all the vents they cleaned and any issues they had and gave a detailed report on each fireplaces condition. Very pleased with the service and they will be the ones we call back for our next cleaning.

I don't even know where to begin! I called this company based on it's Angie's List ratings. The estimator came out when I wasn't home, however I received a written estimate. It seemed reasonable, and once we closed on this house I hired them to come and perform the work. In the process of getting this house ready to move in, we used all contractors from AL. We had a total of 13 different companies all contractors in for various projects from hardwood floors to roofing & chimney. When they arrived it was an older man and a younger kid. Long story short, I fired them within 2 hours. I initially fired them for safety reasons. The young guy intentionally threw a running grinder off of the roof while we were standing there talking. It hit the ground still spinning. When I called him on it, I said, "please no more throwing stuff off of the roof, this is a work zone right now and someone could be injured." I know accidents happen. This wasn't an accident. Not more than 30 minutes later, while the majority of the work crew was eating lunch on the back patio, the same guy threw a 18" piece of razor sharp flashing off of the roof. It hit one of the patio umbrellas, & then hit the side of my dads arm. Luckily it was the flat side, otherwise we would have been spending the afternoon getting him stitched up. I went to talk to them again, and then noticed the chimney. What we had discussed was gray mortar from the chimney up, and what I saw was pink mortar glopped on like a preschool art project. It looked horrible. When I said that it was unacceptable, THEN they said the bid was for only 1 chimney....and they had forgot to order the cap, and that the other joints didn't need repointing, this is why they only did 3 joints. I called & tried to reach the owner who wasn't available. He came out a few days later, asked me what I didn't like and I told him. He offered to do the other 2 chimney's as needed for free, but would rewrite the bid, and send someone else. The bid arrived and it had gone up hundreds of dollars, and they wanted half up front. I called back saying that after our last experience I wouldn't have them back, and I especially would prepay for services that were bad the first time. American Chimney was recommended to us. They came out, provided a detailed bid & were very professional. We hired them. They did what we had originally hired Oregon Chimney to do. When American Chimney was done, they looked beautiful and were done correctly. The guys at American were meticulously clean. I wouldn't hire Oregon Chimney or recommend Oregon Chimney. You get what you pay for. Clearly some people haven't had the same 2 men at their house. If you value your investment, don't' spend your money here!
Description of Work: the estimate was to repoint & flash 3 chimneys, and add a stainless steel cap.

He was great and I got him from Angie’s List. He was excellent. The last time I used his service, he charged me quite a bit because I had fireplace insert as well, but I can’t remember how much he charged me but it was definitely in the $3500 range. It included the fireplace as well. He was on time and did what he said he was going to do. His crew was professional as well.

They were prompt in their communication, came out to do a bid and were courteous and friendly. They came on time and finished up a day early. They offered a lower cost solution to the one we presented and even though we didn't go that route, it was a rare and great thing to have the contractor suggest a lower priced option! My only downside was that they didn't consult with us before changing the color of the mortar from our old color (white) to black. We think it looks great, but it was definitely a shocker to come home to it without expecting it. Other than that, I'd hire them back for sure!

We had to fix our chimneys before listing our house for sale. Another bid we got wanted to tear down both chimneys and rebuild with new bricks, at a cost more than double the quote from Oregon Chimney. Oregon Chimney recommended rebuilding one chimney with existing bricks at a lower height, discarding some of the bricks in worse condition, and repointing another chimney. The work was completed ahead of schedule. We now have chimneys that are straight, sound, and attractive as well.

Very good service from start to finish. I called Amber to schedule appointment, she was very nice and gave me $$$ information. Mark Robinson came to my house 8/11, did the work and said he could return 8/12 to install cap. He called the morning of 8/12 & told me what time he would be out. He was prompt and good at what he does. He says he likes his work and has been w/the company for approx. 10 years. That tells me a lot. The cap cost $165 and has a lifetime warranty. I would use this company again.

It went very well. Dan came out to give us a quote and was very thorough, thoughtful, and informative. He was very interested in the work we planned, had some great suggestions, and provided some good feedback on what we should do. The quote he provided ended up being less than half of what was quoted by another company, and he seemed quite a bit more experienced and competent. Rusty, George, and a couple of other guys did the majority of the work. The repair of the chimney we kept involved grinding out the old mortar, rebuilding the chimney above the roof line, and adding a metal cap on the chimney to keep out the weather. This was all performed to an exceptional standard of workmanship with no issues whatsoever. The other part of the work that they performed was to completely demolish and remove a newer chimney and fireplace that had been added to our 1911 house in the 1950's. It was an eyesore and completely superfluous. This work was also performed very rapidly and effectively. They then repaired the outside wall, patched the floor where the hearth was, and patched the interior wall. All work done was performed to a very high level of craftsmanship. You literally can not tell there was a chimney on the outside of the house anymore! Rusty and George were very nice guys who were easy to talk to, very helpful, and quite thoughtful in the work they did. I am exceedingly happy with the results. The one 'B' for punctuality is because I had to call them to come back and pick up some scaffolding they left behind. It wasn't a big deal though and they came and got it right away after I called.

My fireplace had an old ashtrap that was collecting water. Oregon Chimney came for a free evaluation. They recommended several repairs that included fixing the flashing around the chimney on the roof that previous roofers had not secured properly, rebuilding the crown of the chimney and capping the chimneys. My home built in 1953 had two chimneys. The main chimney had three flues - two were active. They put caps on the active flues and sealed the third. The second chimney was from a de-commissioned furnace. They sealed the flues on that chimney. The servicemen were very professional. They carefully explained what they were doing and took time to show us problems and how they were addressing them.
Description of Work: Cleaned out and removed standing water in old ashtrap. Caulked and sealed area where chimney met siding. Capped 2 active flues and sealed one inactive flue on the main chimney. Sealed two flues from non-active chimney. Rebuilt crown on old chimney. Sealed brick. Fixed flashing around chimney on roof.

It was crazy trying to get our chimney fixed. We talked to probably 6 different people and got such widely different opinions and price quotes I kept getting estimates because no two estimates were alike. One person said flat out they couldn't do it, another said it would cost $3000 for the tuck pointing, another said save my money on the tuck pointing and get my chimney rebuilt for $4000, another two said it would cost $2000 and $2500. Those estimates were 2-3x more than what the first owners said it would cost to tuck point the chimney. There quote was $1200. Finally I got an estimate from Oregon Chimney, said they would do it for $685 and that it wasn't that bad and it did not need to be rebuilt. I guess they said what we wanted to here, we booked them then and there. They came out, did the work and our chimney looks great! It definitely pays to ask around before you go with someone. I asked the top 3 people on Angie's list as well as some people recommended by others until I finally got something that I could afford.

Dan from Oregon Chimney assessed the work to be done, and further identified that the flashing just needed to be tacked down (not replaced) and provided the estimate as noted above that we paid for the services. He also took the time to explain the fireplace dampers (there's an older non-functional one and the one that is useable) which we appreciated. Rusty came to do the work on November 2. He was on time. He did a great job, coming back later in afternoon to finish the masonry sanding (it was a wet, drippy day). Did a great job of cleaning up.

They did a good job of dismantling and rebuilding the new chimney, however part of the job was capping an unused flue. Upon finishing the work, I noticed they didn't cap the dead flue. They came on time and did both jobs professionally and quickly. The company actually sent us a 10% discount coupon for the repair after we had the cleaning done. I would recommend this company. Also, they did not seemed to be booked out far in advance and it was relatively easy to get an appointment.
Description of Work: Oregon Chimney cleaned and inspected our chimney. While they were working they found that some repairs were needed. Specifically, we needed a new "flashing" which had rusted out and was apparently missing. So, we had them return later (a month and a half) to replace it.

A little pushy on sales after doing the quote. Eventually they called with a discount offer and I finally agreed to do the work. A previous electrical project had put a dent in my wallet, so I was trying to save up for this. Two young men showed up and quickly got to work. They sealed off parts of the basement so they would not become covered in 100 years of soot. When they arrived, they said they expected a two day project, but they actually finished in under 8 hours.
Description of Work: Complete chimney removal through 3.5 floors (basement, main, 2nd, and attic). Chimney had already been removed to below the roof line and the roof patched by another company. Chimney had been decommissioned for several years and bricks and mortar were visibly disintegrating (they were 100+ years old).
