In one word "terrible." We had already paid nearly $20,000, and toward the end of the project, which was already a month past its original estimated completion date, the carpet installers literally walked off project stating they could not in good faith lay the New Zealand wool carpeting due to the poor quality of work that had been completed. There was a hole at the base of the wall where the floor board was set to go that you could literally see the outside of the house. There was also extensive dry rot that had not been addressed, and the floor had never been leveled. We ended up firing Lux, and hiring a new contractor who had to tear out the engineered floor that had been laid in the hall and landing area in order to level the floor. The floor ended up needing almost a dozen bags of concrete and two walls had to be ripped out after they had already been painted in order to repair giant area of dry rot. The new contractor also had to redo 3 additional walls in the hall due to the new drywall never being properly finished. Again, the walls had already been painted in this portion of basement as well. Total cost of basement due to having to tear out and redo most of the "work" Lux had completed was $50,000. More than double our original estimate. My other concern, and there were many, was their almost complete reliance on sub-contractors. One set of sub-contractors tracked dirt and dust all through the house to use my upstairs bathroom while another group of sub-contractors employed a very pregnant woman to assist with the drywall sanding. The entire basement was thick with drywall dust and they didn't even have masks or appropriate ventilation.

It started well. Lux's owner, Andrew, was professional and punctual in providing an estimate and communicating with us. Work began and was overall performed on time, and with reasonable skill. We would use this company again but give them a B+ grade rather than an A on this job for two reasons: 1) about midway through the job we stopped getting any progress info from them. The few calls/contacts that occurred were all initiated by us, and it took a phone call from us several days after it appeared that they might be done to get a "yes, we're done" answer. There was no "walk thru" of the job site offered. 2) we wrote a short cover letter with our final payment which indicated we were overall satisfied with the job but wondered about a few carpentry issues. We thought Andrew would give us a call for a final discussion on the project. Again, there was silence.

Work performed without a hitch, except one delay that was NOT the contractor's fault.  The contractor personally checked the work of the subcontractors, getting them started in the morning, and coming back at the end of the day to be sure the work  had been done properly,  Subcontractors were highly skilled, especially the flooring man.
My wife and I wanted to personally do the painting of walls and vanity woodwork at the most opportune time, and Lux accommodated us at some possible inconvenience to themselves.
Very good results, no regrets

The active stage of the project took about six weeks, plus another week or so of touch-up. Lux was very organized, scheduling subcontractors at a steady pace so we had very few "quiet" days and no major hold-ups. They set up a temporary kitchen for us in our basement (using some of our old appliances) and then shut off the old kitchen for the duration of the project. Everything went very smoothly.

Lux Construction Inc were really good over all. They were really good at communicating. There was a mix-up in flooring. They took care of that problem really fast. I will use them again in the future.

They were very professional. I cannot comment on the price because I did not get multiple bids. It seemed a little expensive, but they did a good job. I will use them again.
