When I called to make the appointment the scheduler asked when I would like the technician to come out, when I stated a date she said, "Well, it's going to be hot how about the end of the week." So, I thought it would be better to let me know when the technicians would be available and then I could let her know what would work best for me. The technician was a tad later than originally stated, but the office did call to let me know. The technician who came out was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions and provided good information regarding my equipment and some safety precautions I could take since my unit is over 15 years old. I was happy with his service, and in fact he was the same technician that had been out the previous year to preform the same service (so at least they have good employee retention)! I did sign up for a service contract because it knocked $20 of my current bill, and paid for the visit for next year. There was no pressure from the technician for this service, but I decided it was worth it due to the way the cost of everything is increasing.

It went pretty good. They actually made a mistake in the quote so they didn't charge me for the correction, they stuck with the quote. There was also a return trip for them to fix something that wasn't working properly.

Greg Marshall explained my heating and cooling needs, and made recommendations for systems. He was very informative and easy to work with. Gene did the installation and checked all my systems. Everything passed inspection. I was glad to have AC these past hot days.

They did what they said they would. The job was fine. The only problem I had was with the coordination with the office. The people that came out the house, were fine however. I would possibly use them again in the future.

They have come out and worked with me very well. They communicate with me very well and let me know everything that is going on. They have very reasonable prices.

Jacob s Heating & Air Conditioning (Jacob s) was a pleasure to do business with this summer when we had central A/C installed. Our 10 year old home had a gas forced-air furnace but no A/C. After my wife and I decided to explore our options, Jacob s stood out from the rest in terms of good reviews and recommendations. My research into central A/C indicated that the contractor would play a significant role in the outcome of whatever solution or brand we chose. We first met Greg Marshall (Sales Consultant) who took the time to explain the options and how they would work with our existing system. I appreciated Greg s no-pressure, professional approach to learning what was important to us so that he could offer appropriate solutions. His candor and knowledge in helping us review our options was refreshing. Greg performed the Manual J calculations after thoroughly gathering measurements and information about our home. This approach is key in order to properly size the unit. By the next day, Greg was able to return to our home to talk through the various options and costs. Within a short time of our decision to move forward, Jacob s was able to install our new Carrier Performance 15 SEER central A/C unit in a day as promised. The installer did a thorough and complete job, ensuring the workmanship was top notch. After the installation, he walked me through using the new thermostat and other paperwork about the system. Jacob s made it easy for me to arrange to have the necessary inspections done, which passed with flying colors. Even after the job was completed, Greg checked back with me to see if everything was fine. His follow-up was much appreciated. We are very happy with the results and have full confidence that Jacob s will be the company we turn to for future HVAC needs.

They were chosen by the Angie's List ratings. They seemed competent, knowledgeable, punctual, responsible, and professional.

They were 30 minutes early and despite my husband's need to sleep, and my need to continuously leave to take care of my job, they finished the work in the quoted time, cleaned up their mess, and locked up like I asked.

It went very well. Dave came out right on time. He was very pleasant and knowledgeable. He took time to answer all my questions. I had called several other companies for price quotes and this was the only company that told me about a special NW Natural had going that month for the AC/furnace service. I REALLY appreciate that because it saved me about $100.00!

It was a good experience. They were efficient. They were very timely and prompt. They were easy to get along with. They seem to diagnose things quickly. They were very experienced. We have had no trouble with the system.

From the estimate to the installation, they did a great job. We had 6 bids done and this was the only company that said they could put in a vent so we could draw cold air from the basement during hot spells. They were also the lowest priced and most knowledgeable.

Very well -- technician spent the time needed to uncover the source of a problem with my AC. I'm VERY pleased with the persistence and the results!

They were wonderful to work with. From their sales man Mark to the technician who was in charge of the installation we had a very good experience. They did a great job and we would use them again and recommend them to others.

A month after the service, the furnace shut down again with the same error code. A Jacobs technician came to look at it and was unable to diagnose the problem exactly. But he had narrowed it to the control board and the hi and lo limit switches. When I asked the Jacobs office about the repair and why this didn't come up during the first repair I was told that the furnace was dirty enough that there could be numerous problems with it now. I get that, but that would have been good information during the first visit so that we could have evaluated whether or not purchasing a new furnace would be a better idea. The cost estimate for the second service came to apprx $700. When I asked about the cost they said, "we're an enormous company with huge overhead." In the end, after comparing prices, I discovered that Jacobs charged way more than competitors. Technicians are great. Prices and rude telephone service: not so much. It felt like all they wanted was my money. I would not use them again.

Not good. I called Jacob's as they are a Carrier (I had prior good experience) dealer and they have high ratings in Angie's List. We scheduled for a date and time when I was available (I work out of town). They called 24 hrs before the appt and stated the individual couldn't make it and no one else was available at that time. I talked to Doug Kagel at that time and he sent me a bid based on our phone conversation. The next morning I received a phone call from a different individual in the middle of a closing (we refinanced our house) and asked if we were available then. I explained to the individual that the original time was all that was available and that I had already scheduled another firm, who got the job, and that I was only available on Monday before I left for the airport. We then received a phone call Monday morning while I was headed to a eye doctor appt and was asked if we were available and I said not at that time and the individual stated he would call back. He didn't.

Doug responded by phone to additional questions I had and came back a second time as we had planned. We had a very educational and thorough discussion and I must say I enjoyed working with Doug throughout the process. He was especially knowledgeable about air quality issues and his bid included a good filtration system adequate for my needs (some allergies). He was also wonderfully frank in saying that for my needs, I didn't have to go with the more expensive two-stage, variable speed furnace, but a 90% efficient single-stage furnace would work. Although that would make less money for his company, I appreciated his honesty. He also said my 4" ductwork could be accommodated and would be no problem. In the end, however, his bid added too much for adding an additional return and his warranties were not as good as the company I chose.

Jacobs offered the best price from the two estimates received. The technicians were punctual and efficient. Although the performance of the equipment is what I expected, I m only slightly disappointed in the end result of the workmanship. The addition of a pump to move the condensation to a drain was something I was not told of ahead of time; the quiet operation of the furnace is occasionally interrupted by the sound of water pouring into a plastic container. Second, due to the limited access to the furnace, the drywall surrounding the PVC pipe running through the roof was not finished, I guess I will only lose some heat to the attic.

Greg is wonderful! He arrived right on time. He took the time to talk to me to understand exactly what we want out of the new system, and he took proper measurements and observations of our entire house so he could do a thorough load calc. The estimate arrived promptly, with all the detail we needed to understand what what was included. We did have additional questions, and he took the time to give us very detailed answers to everything. Some of the other companies we spoke to were just plain offended when we asked questions. He did a very good job of following up and making sure we had all the information we needed. We didn't go with them, because we had narrowed it down to two very capable installers with similar bids, and we went with the local guy who included some extras. I would gladly hire Jacob's in the future and recommend them to anyone. Very professional.

Appointment was scheduled for 8:00-12:30. Technician arrived at 1:45. Fireplace wouldn't consistently turn on and stay lit. Technician tuned up fireplace. Thought the problem was in the switch (like a light switch that turns on the fireplace), but he didn't have the switch. He offered to sell me a better thermostat for my furnace and put my old thermostat on the fireplace. I decline and asked him to show me how to change the switch myself (I later purchased one for 59 cents at any home improvement store). Tuned up the furnace. Said my igniter was about to go out. I agreed to replace it.

This work wasn't inexpensive, but they did a good job and it's been working fine ever since. You either buy an agreement every six months or a year, or pay an exorbitant amount when you need them.

The job went very well. Jacobs arrived on time, was very courteous and clean, and performed just the checks I needed to assure myself that I didn't need to replace my furnace. I'll probably have them back in the Spring to do a routine check-up on my A/C.

The technician's first choice turned out to be correct (a bad thermistor). The part had to be special ordered, but they were able to obtain it quickly. This wasn't a real problem because the furnace was still working, it only had to be re-lit on occasion (and this is Portland Oregon, not Portland Maine). There was a problem with another part while installing the replacement, but that was able to be repaired on the same visit. The dispatch office was good about giving us updates on when the technician would arrive on the day scheduled, but I got the impression that the tech's priority was to do a repair/installation well and not take shortcuts to be on time for the next appointment. When it's time to replace the furnace, this company will definitely be invited to bid on the project.

The repair man was personable and helpful. He helped me program my thermostat. I was then charged $90.00 for him getting here and $180.00 for the igniter. I did not see the amount on my billing statement so I called and found out that they hadn't processed my credit card. I thought I might inquire about a Senior Citizen discount. I do qualify for one. I am annoyed that the offer was not presented by the service man.

Checked furnace, advised me on filter selection and educated me about the unit. Very straightforward experience, no surprises.

Talked to Nancy in scheduling and they could send someone out later this afternoon. She called when he was on his way. Showed up and went right to work. Took about a half hour and fixed the loose wires. Checked the rest of the furnace and everything ok. Man was very pleasant. I thought the amount charged was very fair. I would hire them again.
