Charlie is the go-to guy when it comes to plumbing. We used another big-box contractor initially and would never go back after seeing Charlie's ingenuity and passion. He's old school -- no internet, no email -- but he's extremely responsive by phone and text. And the work he does is superb!
We were told by countless other plumbers that our job would cost substantially more than what Charlie charged. There were tons of of obstacles -- the floors, the walls, the incline, etc. etc. Charlie never mentioned any of them, and acted like the job was a breeze (even though I know it wasn't). Throughout the process, he made suggestions that would make our home more usable and I never felt like he was upsetting. We added a few outdoor spouts, for example, and they were quite reasonably priced.
It truly wouldn't have been possible to complete the project without him and we are forever grateful. Plus, he has a contagious personality that we loved being around.
We can't wait for our next plumbing project.... we're thinking outdoor irrigation if you're up to it, Charlie!

We realized we had a leak when we got a very large water bill, but we had no evidence of wetness anywhere. A leak locator came and gave us a general idea of where in the water line it was, which lead to us cutting the driveway asphalt and digging a 3'x5'x2' trench, and then another 2'x8'x2' trench when the first one wasn't even close to the right spot. This digging took us maybe 20 hours over 3 weeks, all in our "spare time", between work, school, and illnesses. We found nothing, so we were ready to call in a professional. We have some trust issues with plumbers, but Charlie Hall came with great reviews so we called. He was super helpful over the phone, and after he came for a visual inspection, he said we were digging in the right area and to keep going. He admitted that if we hired him to do the digging, that it would be very costly (which we knew), so we should keep at it ourselves and call him when we found it. Sure enough, we found the leak (it was like a super-soaker spray! SO much water leaking for months!) within an hour later. When he came to repair the leak, he was prompt, courteous, professional, and quick, and the price was very reasonable. This will be our go-to plumber from now on.

I noticed the sound of running water when I entered the house and could not determine the source. I was afraid there would be a crazy water bill. I called the city to turn off the water at the street and called Charlie. It was already Friday afternoon. He came within a few hours, determined the location of the leak, and turned the water back on once he had determined that it wasn't a huge leak. He made plans to replace the line the following Tuesday, got permits, arranged for digging, replaced the line. Then he also put a turn off near the house in case we needed that in the future.
This is not the first time I used Charlie's services. He has sleuthed and fixed my plumbing numerous times. Once, while I was out of town, a friend who was staying at my house found water flowing through the ceiling and light fixtures! Charlie found the leak in the pipes from an upstairs bathroom. The PVC pipes were mysteriously crumbling. We worried that perhaps the pipes were faulty and contacted the pipe manufacturer who sent out someone to inspect. He took samples of the crumbling pipe, which were filled with a white powdery substance. Meanwhile, Charlie said to me that the only thing he could think of that might cause the pipes to crumble like that is lime, did we have any grout replacement or repair recently. In fact we did 2 years before. The repair person had rinsed the tools in that bathroom sink, and the it would not have caused a problem except that the sink was not used for 2 years, allowing the grout mixture to sit in the pipes. I called the pipe company and told them they were off the hook. We were relieved that the rest of the pipes in our home were not defective. The cost for his services that time was $1200 including replacing pipe from the second floor sink down to the bottom of the first floor.
