I saw Don Pierik's Custom Solutions, Inc. truck in our SE Portland neighborhood and called him for an estimate for our kitchen remodel. We hired Don based on his recommendation to reface our existing cabinets which is a very affordable alternative to installing new cabinets. We chose to use Hickory as we love the natural look of the variations in the wood. Don also recommended crown molding which really boosts the high quality design. The results are fantastic and have lasted the test of time (12 years now). Don also installed pull out cutting boards and had creative solutions for corner cabinets including a custom angled corner drawer to utilize otherwise inaccessible space. We just called Don to replace a hinge on our heavily used cabinet below the sink. Don remembered us, fondly, and he came over the same day to replace the hinge! Don is professional, friendly and his work is very high quality. We highly recommend Don and Custom Solutions, Inc.

First of all, the whole process took 3 months. Things were never completely finished. He would sporadically come back to do things, but we never knew when he would show up. He would say he was working on other jobs, but we later found out he would be instead away on vacation. I had to put together a list to get him to complete the project. Though he went on about how great his paint process for the cabinets would be, I am already having issues with the paint cracking and peeling. The dishwasher was not put in correctly either. They did not give us the promised notice prior to showing up to work on things, and expected us to pay extra money for them to do things like move our furniture. Though this was later credited, I feel that if I had not brought it up to him I would have been charged the full amount. What I have learned from this experience, is to keep a detailed account of everything that is included in the job. If I had not constantly followed up with this company, my flooring would not be finished and my house would be a wreck. I would not recommend him for anything.

Don was referred to us via referral. He came out to do an estimate and we liked both his professionalism and his friendly style. As part of our kitchen remodeling, we wanted to add an island with several drawers and a seating area. We also asked him to add a couple of doors to an existing cabinet and to replace 4 kitchen drawers that were poorly constructed. He also recommended replacing our molding on the top of the cabinets since we have a vaulted ceiling in the kitchen and the crown molding would provide a better look. Especially complicated was making the new materials fit with the existing 30 year old cabinetry (which was being refinished) and the design of the island. Don came up with an approach to support the granite counter top for the island where it overhung for seating without it being intrusive. He also did such a good job of matching the new doors to the existing ones that you can't tell them apart. His work was done on time, on budget, and beautiful. He takes great care in his work and is very easy and enjoyable to work with. We would highly recommend him.

After I contacted him Don came by to assess the situation and suggested (bid three different options plus a couple of sub-options. When we were unsure what look we wanted, he removed the previous crown molding so we could evaluate the look without crown molding. He recommended an alternative but we decided to forgo any molding. We wanted to wait until after our Thanksgiving company had departed, so we scheduled it approximately for early December. He was delayed by another job where everything went wrong but waiting another week didn't bother us. He definitively scheduled the start a week in advance and showed up on schedule. The job took two days. At the end he rushed off as soon as he cleaned up, to make an appointment he had. The cabinets look great but I noticed he'd left a slightly scarred strip on two adjoining walls. After we talked the next day, he came by right after work and caulked those strips.
