Mariano gave me a bid for the work soon after I initially called, and then they started and completed the work within a couple days. Hard workers and good price. This is the second time I've used this company.

Our contract started almost two years ago. Things started out fairly well, however, there was inadequate skill related to knowing the difference between weeds and plants. Hemlock was growing in a newly landscaped back yard and Mariano didn't know what it was. I took the time to meet him at the property and point out the problems. He thanked me but didn't do everything that I asked, such as removing a start-up prune tree that I didn't want. It was still there one year later. This company sells the feature that they will take care of everything. This spring has been a wet time, but I don't see how that should have prevented them from pruning roses, bushes and hedges. All that has been done is mowing, edging and spraying a few weeds with Roundup but not pulling up the dead ones after they have withered. I have been charged for full service, but I didn't get what I was paying for. This company might be good for a one day clean-up but I would not recommend them for around the calendar care. Communication is also a problem.

I cannot get a straight answer on how much monthly maintenance would be. I paid them an initial charge up front. They said that they were going to come back every two weeks. I thought that even if it cost more, I was willing to pay more for them to come out every 10 days. So, since the initial cutting of my lawn, I have yet to hear anything back from them. I'm more than likely going to take my business elsewhere.

Mariano picked his start time to be 9:30 am, and he arrived at 11:00 without phoning us to let us know that he was going to be late. He was inconveniencing another landscaper who was waiting for him to get out of the way. He agreed he could do the job in one day, but took three. He doesn't own a stump grinder, so he rented one and worked into a later hour disturbing residents in the basement of the house. He was also asked to cut the wood into 18" sections, which he didn't do. This turned into a huge inconvenience because he was late, didn't do what he said he would do and didn't remove all the roots. He does pretty good work with general yard maintenance, but I don't think he has the equipment for tree removal.

They have also been coming once a week and mow the lawn. I called them in the first place because I was sick and needed a little help and not do it myself. They did such a nice job, so I thought I don?t have to mow the lawn every week and let them do it instead. I could say that the quality of work was the best and also recommended them to my daughter who had a huge job for them to do and they also now use them once a week. I also sent them an email request to back up my verbal discussion because the English language is a barrier. It worked very well because they knew what I was expecting and it all went well.

I met with Mariano and he gave me a quote right on site. He had to delay the start of the project due to the heavy rains but that was understandable. I was out of town while he did the work but he called to check in when he had a question. When I got home Mariano called me to remind me to water the new lawn, which I thought was great customer service. I was very satisfied with the job they did and will definitely use them again in the future.

This is the 3rd time I have used this company. Mariano works very hard to make sure his customers are happy. He knows a lot about plants and gardening and his prices are good. His English is limited so if you are Spanish speaking it is helpful in dealing with this contractor. We occasionally have an issue on the timing of when the workers will come to work on the property, but they do eventually show up. We also had a slight problem this time when a worker broke a sprinkler pipe but Mariano made sure he came back to fix it within a weeks time. He has now hired an English speaking secretary to answer the phone calls and this has been very helpful. In summary, for yard work and clean up, this is a good company and they will get the job done at a good price.

When we first contacted them, Mariano came to give us a quote the very next day. The quote beat his competitors by a long shot, and he was a very nice guy who had received great reviews on Angie's List before. The initial yard clean-up & barkdust went forward as scheduled. We were delighted with his crew's work and speed with which they got it all done. However, once we scheduled them for twice monthly upkeep thereafter, there were THREE occasions where they did not show up on the day or time scheduled to do the maintenance. Each time we had to call and Mariano had someone there to do the work the next day, yet it was a major inconvenience not having them show when they would say they would. Our family's schedule is too busy for this kind of unreliability. Therefore we will not be using their services again this summer and will be hiring another company, even if that means paying a bit more.
Response from Courtesy Construction Company
"Please forgive us for causing this inconvenience to you and your family. We beg your pardon for having troubled you. We have adjusted our schedule to meet expanded demand from our Angie's List members. We will be offering a window of visitation to allows us a time buffer to accommodate inclement weather in which work can't be performed. Please accept our most sincere apology. Its not an excuse but please remember to put the dog in for scheduled appointments. We are working on our English and are looking to hire someone with better oral skills to better serve you."

Overall I think a focus on improving communication (a strong English speaker in their staff would help). The company appears to be hard working and I was pleased (though it took much persistence on my part) that they finally helped solve the problems encountered with the initial problem. I'm still not certain I'd use them again though.

Mariano came to give us an estimate. We walked through all the details. He wrote a contract and we agreed to monthly work. The price is fair but I cannot figure out the schedule that the company keeps. They come sporadically. Communication is difficult because of a serious language barrier. We send emails to him and the work gets done -- eventually. The yard looks fine. The gutters got cleaned.

They did the job pretty well. The only complaint I had was that there were no English speakers and we could not communicate, but they did do a good job and cleaned up afterwords.

Great-the two bushes were removed roots and all, the yard is well taken care of mowed, and bushes trimmed, areas weeded, leaves raked up and taken away. Excellent work.

Mariano listened very carefully to what I wanted done. The men who did the work were extremely hard workers. The quality of work for the price is very good. They cleaned up after the job was done. Mariano made sure I was happy with the work they did before the job ended. I intend to re-hire this company for more work.

We contacted them and they were at our house two days later to give the bid. They were able to start work the week after bidding the job. I think it would be a good idea to have someone who speaks Spanish there during the bid process, but if you can communicate with drawings and hand signals - they speak enough English to understand what you need done. Four men worked a full eight hour day and removed three truckloads of wood debris from our yard. What I liked most is that they asked us to review the work when they were done and asked us to confirm everything we had on our list had been done. Mariano Cortez was our main contact and he was very friendly and great to work with. Everyone else on his team was professional and a pleasure to have working on our landscaping. They also raked our entire yard and weeded/swept our sidewalks as a bonus. Our yard looks great! We received multiple bids and most were higher for less work. With being on a budget, we really appreciated being able to get much needed work done for less. Gracias, Courtesy Maintenance!!

Responded immediately and scheduled an estimate for the next day. Mariano arrived on time and quoted a figure well below what I'd expected. Two of his people arrived on the scheduled day and worked for approximately 6 hours. In the last two hours Mariano, the company owner showed up to check on the work done and manage the cleanup. Before they left, we went over the work and noted what was not finished -- removal of some vines from the fence and minor pick-up -- which was taken care of immediately. The only problem I had was their reliance on blowers for cleanup. This is not a problem in the rainy season, but at this time of year it leaves a cover of dust on my house and my neighbors houses. I fully understand their preference here, but I don't want to annoy my neighbors more than I have to.

I had a rosemary plant that had been around for four years and they dug it up because they thought it was a weed. They also pruned in a way that was not entirely satisfactory, where they were shaping to the eye rather than for the health of the plant. I think that they were good for gross cleanup but as for detail oriented work I would not recommend them without supervision. My husband loves the way it looks and other than those small complaints I thought they did a good job. But I thought they could have worked a little more on doing the job well rather than making it look good.

After scheduling a date and time to meet, I had someone out to my house to estimate the job. My estimate came in at $245 for the yard work and $150 for the barkdust. I scheduled the work for July 17. The day before when I called to confirm and find out what time they were coming, the office responded that they had me down for the 19. That Saturday morning, the estimator came with a crew, we went over the work to be done a second time. Then one crew member began work on yard at 9 a.m. and worked by himself until 3 p.m., when another crew member came over. The two then worked until 6 p.m. They worked hard and it was a very hot day. Because I'm an Angieslist member, the company offered me two free lawn services (mowing, edging). We didn't schedule anything, but August 9 they mowed my lawn and left a note that they would be back August 21. They came back August 30. I think the work they did was fine, but I'm going to continue to look for some whose scheduling is more reliable.

Our yard was a MESS; overgrown with weeds, and to the point where we just felt it was out of our hands as parents of a newborn with no time to spend on it. So I called around for quotes and went with Courtesy Maintenance after Mariano came out the same night I called. We asked them to rip out all the weeds (which was A LOT!), trim up trees & bushes, edge the lawn, mow, and put down new barkdust. He quoted us $325 for all of that work, including 4 yards of barkdust, which his crew brought, and the price included hauling away all of the yard debris. So we hired them, his crew showed up bright and early on the agreed upon date, and did every last thing we had hired them to do. With the state of our yard, it took them the better part of a day to get it done, and when they were finished I just couldn't believe how great our yard looked, and how little we were charged for the amount of work they did! Throughout the day as the crew worked their office manager, Sarah, called a few times to check in, give me updates of their progress, and answer any questions I had if I had any. I thought that was wonderful customer service! Everyone with this company was an absolute pleasure to work with, and I would hire them again in a second! We're planning to contract them for monthly maintenance as well.

We called the end of June and arranged for the work to be done. Because of a conflict with other workers we had to call and set up a new date. They didn't come on the day arranged but came the next day. They did a very fine job but the communication is very hard due to their limited English

The company was on time for both the estimate and the day of the yard work. Mr. Cortez asked me to look at everything a few hours before it was finished to make sure that everything was being done to my satisfaction and to reiterate what I wanted. At the end, he again made sure that I looked at everything to make sure that the work had been done as contracted. Mr. Cortez was there both in the morning and then the last couple of hours or so to help with finishing up the work. The rest of it was done by one employee who was there from approximately 9:00 am until 7:00 pm. The employee's English was limited so it might have been difficult if I had to communicate something complicated in nature. Another employee of the company called me several times throughout the day to ask me how the job was going and also made a followup call the next day to ask if I was pleased with the service. The only problem I would ever anticipate with this company is the potential for misunderstandings due to the language barrier with workers on site. Other than that, this company is outstanding. Very professional, quality service, fair price. I will use them again when the need arises.

I called on Sunday and left a message requesting a bid. Marianno called back that day and we set an appointment for Monday at 5:00pm. Marianno showed up right on time. When he gave me his bid I was shocked that it was so much lower than the other bids we got. I actually wondered if it was TOO low. I was worried that maybe the work quality would be poor but since he has such a good reputation on Angie's list I decided to hire him. His guys showed up on Wednesday morning as agreed and cleared the area and trimmed the butterfly bush and it looks wonderful! They did a great job on clean up also! Now we are thinking we could afford to have him come out and get the rest of our yard in shape! Maybe we will have them come every Spring!!

We've used CM before and I was pleased with their responsiveness and reasonable price. They came when they said they would and did the work they were supposed to do. Unfortunately, rather than sweep the dirt and debris from the sidewalks, the crew decided to use a leaf blower and blew dirt and dust all over our neighbors' houses and cars. One of our neighbors (a guy who looks out for everyone in the neighborhood) asked the crew to stop and they apparently cussed him out and were very rude. As we weren't home, we are forced to take our neighbors' word on it (not just one, but a handful of them). We came home that evening to a street full of very unhappy neighbors and spent the entire evening going door to door and groveling to everyone on our street. We left a message for the company and when we rec'd a call back about the service, the woman seemed never to have gotten our message and made only vague apologies and offered (again, vaguely) that they might stop by to apologize to our neighbors. Again, this was the second time we used CM and the work they did was great and cheap. It's just a shame they made the poor decision to alienate our neighbors. We won't be using them again.
