Jason from American plumbing came out to the house to assess what kind of repairs we'd need, then chased down the part over the space of about a week, then they came to replace the broken part. I was pleased with the result.

American Plumbing came out months ago to give us an estimate on replacing the shower/tub valve in our guest bath. The estimate was $1000 and included the removal and re-installation of the sink and vanity in the master bath as that was the only was to get to the pipes. We were told at that time that if we removed the master sink/vanity the job would be closer to $700. We decided to wait. Then, in July, we discovered a leak in our roof and our insurance company determined that we needed to get a plumbing inspection or they would cancel our policy! Mike from American Plumbing came out and did the inspection for $185. As I said above, structurally, everything is good - all copper pipe and ABS drains. However, there were those service items. Mike and his apprentice, Nick, came out, did the repairs, CLEANED UP after themselves, and were friendly, pleasant and professional throughout the process. When all was said and done, we had much more done for less than the original estimate. Tony, at the office, was also very easy to work with. They even sent us a card a few days later thanking us for our business. You can be sure that American Plumbing will be our "go to" plumber from here on!

It went satisfactory, but not perfect. Jason the plumber showed up on time and completed the work in a professional and timely manner. However, the initial inspection (commercial not residential) did not pass. It was nothing major. Jason made the required adjustments early the following week and the job passed inspection. I think this situation could have happened to any plumber working on this particular job.

The first worker that came out didn't fix it as well as it shoud've been fixed. I called them back and another worker came out and attempted to fix it; almost fixing it to my satisfaction but there was still a leak. We then called another plumbing company to fix this leak, which they did.

This report is long overdue. I have had nothing but GREAT experience working with this company. I've had them come out on about four different occasions, two of which could be considered emergencies (broken sink pipes and toilet leak -- they were very accommodating in my times of urgent need) and two (like the toilet replacement). They are prompt, knowledgeable, professional and very courteous. They charge what I consider to be fair prices for the excellent work they do. Highly recommended.

The previous week, we had a drain service come out to unclog the main drain in our basement. The company accidentally broke the access pipe so I called American to do the repair. No matter who I spoke to on the phone (there were several calls and Mike in particular spent a lot of time with me) they were knowledgeable, honest and professional. They sent someone out quickly and the work done was fantastic. It was also less expensive than I thought it was going to be. I especially appreciated their honesty (they even talked about other options for fixing our problem without using their service) and I will definitely use them again!

Super service! Smiles even on the telephone. Prompt, knowledgeable, professional service. I had tried to fix the loose faucet and the toilet but without success--not major issues but still needing to be fixed before developing into major issues. I called American Plumbing Services at 7:30 am and my problems were corrected before 9 am. Tony, the owner, and Jason, who actually did the fixing, were delightful to work with. Thanks to you both! Definitely, I would call American Plumbing again and will recommend them highly.

Once we had the wall down to the studs we did as Jason recommended and replaced some of the original house plumbing. After our contractor tiled the new shower, American Plumbing put in our new fixtures, and hooked up the sink and toilet. The sink turned out to be real headache. They were able to place the had held shower at a lower height so I could use it when I was using my new bench/shower seat.

Service was great and took them no time at all. Would definitely recommend - plus they are local grown.

Everything went well. They took less time than estimated and cost was less than estimated. They sent two technicians so that one could be in the crawl space while one was in the bathroom.

I made the appointment on Monday for 10 AM that Wednesday. They were great on the phone and had flexible time offerings. I arranged to drive home from work to be there while the work was being done and got there at 9:45 AM. No word/no plumbers by 10:15 AM, so I gave a call to check in with their office. The receptionist said she'd have them call me, which he did, saying the appointment was recorded as "around 10 AM" so that's why he wasn't there on the dot. He was nice and said he was headed my way ASAP. Got to the house around 10:45 AM, started work immediately and finished quickly (a little under an hour I think). He also showed me the corrosion in some of the valves that caused their failure and provided me with some information regarding a DIY remodeling project (bathroom) I am in the middle of. The lateness was annoying, but I can't really hold it against them--they got the job done quickly and seemed like good guys. It's not a mistake that they have such a high grade on AL, that's for sure. Just an off day I suppose. I'll probably go with them for future jobs.

When they came to do the estimate they took pictures of the inside where the water line enters the house (in a newly remodeled bathroom in the basement). Whoever put together the estimate assumed they would bore the line from the inside out, but when they came to perform the work they realized they would have to bore from the outside in. This meant hiring another company to do the drilling. After six attempts (and all day), they were not able to get through the rocky terrain in NE Portland. They needed to hire someone with a larger machine, which meant putting the work off for two days. It went through beautifully with the larger machine - and in less than an hour. However, that added extra cost to the job. Knowing that NE Portland is notorious for rocky terrain and with pictures,I think they could have predicted needing to bore from the outside in and planned for the larger machine so that the estimate was more accurate. We have also had some issues getting the inspection done in a timely fashion - there was an error on either the company or city's part in submitting the permit - the city had it listed as a commercial property and it took quite a bit of effort to get it corrected and to actually get a residential inspector out. I wasted two half+ days sitting and waiting for the right inspector. So in summary, GREAT QUALITY OF WORK and VERY RESPONSIVE. They were very diligent about making it right and always very positive. The onsite staff were great! It would just have been nice not to have gone through all the headache and additional time. Paying attention to the details up front might have prevented that.

Overall, everything went well. They came in and quickly assessed the situation and explained how they would fix it. They even asked if there was anything else to look at in the house, i.e. toilets, etc.

Emailed them request, they responded within 24 hours, set-up a Saturday apointment. Saturday they called to say they'd be 30 minutes late. When VIncent arrived, he was professional, considerate and knowledgable. Based on the calls coming in, they were swamped with calls, but he did not rush my job and meet all expectations

Initially there was some confusion in regards to scheduling. That was just a miscommunication. Once that was resolved they came out and did a great job. Due to the miscommunication they gave me 50% off. I will absolutely call them for work in the future.

Overall, a positive experience. During the estimate, Tony took pictures of everything we discussed. I was impressed until I realized later that this assisted someone else to write up the proposal (Jason, the lead on our actual work, said he did)--where 2 communication errors ensued. Unbeknownst to me (because I don't know what one looks like) Tony had taken a picture of an electrical ground that was connected to our old galvanized pipe but did not mention the issues that disconnecting that would cause (i.e., did we have other grounds? Did we need new grounds?) They recommended Red's electric in our quote but I though that was a referral in reference to a separate non-plumbing project Tony and I had discussed. Turns out we should have had the electrician lined up along with or before the work to deal with the grounding situation. This is a situation we would have addressed regardless, but knowing about it before we had the ground disconnected would have been better (considering we had difficulty scheduling with Red's and had a freak Portland thunderstorm within hours of getting the grounding finally established--phew!) There was another communication error which was in regards to where the wall demolition would occur on our main floor. It may have been a moot point--the access listed in the estimate may simply have been not enough. These are just the things that come up during work, as far as I'm concerned, but having a person write up an estimate who is not the person who provided the 'eyes' and verbal descriptions during the estimate may have contributed to it. The work was scheduled very quickly after we made the decision to use American Plumbing. The person in the office has always been pleasant and helpful. Providing the actual plumbing work were Jason and another young man (?Ward--I'm terrible with names). They were genial to have around and I was impressed that they did not smell of cigarette smoke during the work. They called before they arrived and arrived when they said they would. They cleaned up after themselves. The work was completed in the time allotted. Jason came back out to check 2 things within a couple days of the install and arrived promptly then as well. All my phone calls to the company have been returned promptly and pleasantly. Oh, and they managed to squeeze in a very small access panel in my child's closet to do work in the adjoining bathroom without further wall demolition in that area, which was AWESOME (and negates the additional demo on the main floor!) I appreciate they provide online communication as well--getting the estimate in that manner is very handy. Now we have rust-free water!

There was a mistake made during installation which was corrected to my satisfaction and I am very happy and will use this company and this plumber again. The reasons I called were all completely solved.

Jason called and arrived early. Went to work, determined valve could not be repaired but adjusted flow, replaced hot water tank, was professional, answers all my questions.

Service was great; called on Sunday and they were able to fit around my work schedule on Tuesday. Very professional work.

Good communication, necessary reschedule and then arrival time; quick service; no charge (extra) on weekends.

Mike & team arrived late, but called to say the previous job ran over, so it wasn't a surprise. They worked for 5 hrs and completed all tasks. They even explained what they had done and offered suggestions on how to best insulate the new plumbing work. Mike gave us a heads up that our gas water heater was on its last legs and talked us through some options. We plan on having them back for any add'l plumbing work that needs to be done in our house. They were very professional, easy-going and willing to explain their work.

Excellent. 3rd time we've used American Backflow.

They stayed late into the night, trying to figure out the problem and offer a solution. They contacted me for approval before moving forward with any work, which was appreciated.

The work was performed quickly and professionally. Options for the sink repair or replacement were made clear.
