I was charged $150 to have nothing done except make work for myself moving everything out of the room and now moving it back in. Where to begin, first off…do yourself a favor. Anything more than say a small job that you could probably do yourself with a youtube video showing you step by step, get a legit service to come on out and view the job with their own eyeballs to tell you if they can do it. The individual who showed up was very nice so I lay no blame on him, but I spoke over the phone with their main office about having some floor squeaks I wanted fixed. Pull back carpet, find joists, screw it down and put carpet back. I was told that some parts of the carpet could tear and that but fixing the squeak another squeak maybe in time shows up elsewhere. I understood what was said and was told the 4 hour package should be what I need. We moved forward… Our guy arrived on time but we cleared the room to make it easy and was told he can pull the carpet or drill through carpet, but I wanted it done right, he mentioned they do not put the carpet back. On the phone when I agreed to go forward, I was told that it would go back and even knew the risks but a few times our guy said, “no we do not put the carpet back” and you need a carpet specialist. Then when the 1 job was a wash, I was informed I must pay $150 for the trip out which we were both very upset about. I asked him to just try and install a light fixture to make use of the hour though I was going to do it myself later. Through no fault of his own, when the box opened it was missing a critical mounting component. So, no light mounted. In short, unless it is an ULTRA small job, get people who specialize in your needs. People need to come out and inspect the job so the handyman knows what the job is exactly rather than an office saying they can do anything no problem and then not deliver. I was told they can reschedule and do everything then I can call a carpet specialist to put the old carpet back down as it was to simply be rolled back some, at that point I’d rather 1 person do it all and Ace is NOT it. The house has lots of small projects but honestly, I don’t see myself ever using them again. I honestly feel like I was robbed.

I was happy with the quality of the work, however, the cost was too great for me to generally recommend to anyone. There also was no mention of there being a $125 service fee just to have the handyman come and take a look and give a general quote. So even if you decide not to move forward with any real work being done, you'd still have to pay $125. This was not mentioned anywhere obvious and comes across poorly. My handyman did a great job, though, but I'm not so happy with the company.

All our free estimates are done with photos and conversations, so the only time we would come out, not do the work, and charge a service fee is if we provided some value (i.e. gave you the plan for how to fix it so you could do it yourself) or if the client was unprepared (wasn't home, ordered the wrong parts, etc.). Ace Handyman Portland responded promptly with full explanation of estimated charges. Arrived on time. Technician worked diligently to remove old caulk. New caulk professionally done and workspace cleaned. Required time over estimated 2 hours but we understood that might happen. We were charged in 15 minute increments as noted in initial estimate. Yes, we would hire Ace again.

I needed to have a damaged concrete-set post and mailbox removed and replaced with a new post and mailbox in the exact same location due to surrounding structural features and a property line. I feared the old post removal would be impossible to do, but installer Darrell Hill masterfully removed the post, and then he installed the new post and mailbox with great attention to detail and "level" precision. I was very impressed and grateful for Darrell's experience, skill, and quality workmanship at a fair price. I will be using the company again for future needs.

I was very happy with the person that did the work and the work they did. He was punctual and communicated well. We discussed options for the repair and decided on a more temporary fix to make it through winter, which was the right decision - good flexibility. Work was done quickly and well and I now have a sound front porch, work was done in a day, and the price was appropriate for the work done.

The guy who showed up was not able to complete the work. He said the estimate was not done correctly and there was not enough time and he needed help. We agreed on a compromise to just have him paint the porch. He was nice, but the work I hired the firm to do was not completed.
