First Call Heating & Cooling

Our heat was out, and First Call was able to send a service person the same day. As we requested, he called a half hour before arriving. He diagnosed the problem with the thermostat, gave us several types of thermostat to chose from, and replaced it in minutes. He was courteous and efficient.

Called them for a quote, got an immediate response, with a schedule. They called back several times with slight adjustments in timing to better fit my schedule, but then were right on time. Steve Erickson gave me a quote before leaving, which was excellent, as didn't have to wait. Their bid was also lowest, which surprised me. The installation team was prompt and friendly, did a great job letting me know what they were going to do, and did it. Basement looks excellent.

Our situation was the reverse of the usual in that we took over a year doing research and being busy with life. Steve Erickson, the salesman would check in occasionally but was never intrusive. He was always prompt, professional and stood by his word. The installer, Frank, was efficient, cheerful and had a can-do attitude. He was a pleasure to have in our home. First Call also facilitated pumping our old oil out and transferring it to our neighbors. We HIGHLY recommend First Call Heating and Cooling.

I called and they were ready to come out the same day. I scheduled an appointment for the next day. I was called 1/2 hour before Billy was going to show up so I could leave work and be home in time to meet him. He showed up on time, explained everything he was doing and fixed more than what I was concerned about.

They were great. This was in the summer time when it was hot, but they came out the next day after we had called them. I had used them previously a couple of years before and they did a great job then so that's why I called them back. They were professional and knew what they needed to do. I would recommend this company to others.

They started on the scheduled day, removed all the old equipment and installed the new furnace and A/C on schedule. They provided the necessary forms for the state tax credit and for a rebate from the Energy Trust.

They have always been very professional. I called them once when my furnace blower wasn't working. Turns out a belt had come loose. The service man showed me the area where the belt was and showed me how to re-attach the belt should it happen again.

The technician was very professional and pleasant to work with. He checked both furnaces, showed me how to clean the permanent filters, and suggested a cleaning schedule. He made suggestions about possible replacements for our 25 year old gas furnace. The only (minor) inconvenience was that I asked for a morning appointment when I scheduled, and the technician did not arrive until about 2:30 p.m., and then only after I called the company to see what was going on.

They are professional, check the system to be sure it is working correct. We have a 10 year warranty and are required to have them do annual maintenance.

They had payment plans, so I could pay a monthly fee. This plan also came with two free service visits per year. They also kept track of the payments well and would credit me if I overpaid. The prices were fair. They were very helpful. I would still be using them if I was not using natural gas.

I was impressed with the salesman and the company. I wanted very much to go ahead with the install, but I know it was wiser for us to wait. We will go with them when we're ready.

Repairman needed to be called out twice, no fault of theirs, a defective part. The first time a "rescue" motor was used. (A special motor that has several speeds that can be adjusted to meet the needs of the furnace.) It should have worked fine, but unfortunately it did not (only worked at lowest speed, not enough to heat or cool the home). The second time, a second repairman, discovered the situation, and put in a motor that was identical to the blower that was originally removed. The furnace now works perfectly. Both repairmen were very professional and knowledgeable. There was a problem with how the office schedules. In the first case the scheduling person told us that someone would be there between 1:00 and 3:00. In other words, there was a window of time. As the day wore on, I got a call that he was running late and would be there around 5:00 p.m. The technician finally arrived around 5:30 p.m. The second time the scheduler said that someone would be by after 1:30 but before 5:00. He arrived at 5:45 p.m. In both cases, the repairman showed up well after 5:00. I can understand someone having an exceptionally busy day or something not going as planned but after the second time a pattern emerges. This may not be a problem when the customer lives in the home. In this case however, the home is a rental, with an hour drive to get there. I had to leave by 12:00 noon and sit all day. It appears this house is located at the end of their work route. In both cases, this home was planned for the end of the workday. Why not schedule for this? I attempted to call the office after the second experience. The person answering the phone was nervous about me talking to the individual in charge when she discovered I was calling about scheduling. (She asked the reason for the call.) After trying to get through to the person in charge for a time, the operator finally said she would "get" whom I needed to talk to. I waited on the phone, she came back, and said the person I needed to talk to was not there? Or busy? And she would be happy to take my number and have him return my call. I gave up. My intent was constructive (and hopefully saving myself and others time in the future). The person I spoke with was pleasant, but evasive. These are nice people, but the office appears to overbook.

My dad's furnace stopped working at his house. I let him look up a heating/cooling company on Angie's List. First Call came out quickly and the guy had no trouble fixing the furnace. My dad was very happy with the price. First Call provided a $25 discount on top of their reasonable price.

First Call has been providing my annual heating oil for a couple of years now. I have found them to be reasonably priced, professional and they have done a good job of tuning up my furnace on an annual basis. It seems to run a bit hot so I call them out on occasion to do a clean up, and the technicians are very open to teaching you things about your furnace. I pay on a subscription basis $265 per month.

It was leaking the condensation water. They came out and fixed it all in a tune up and didn't charge me any extra. He did a very good job. I would highly recommend him.

Karin prepared the quote and was great to work with. The install went smoothly, with one small glitch that Tri County took care of and accepted as their responsibility. Our house has two heat pumps, and during the replacement/install of the primary heat pump, Tri County caused damage to our smaller heat pump. The installation technician immediately worked to solve the problem, first replacing the fuse, and then calling another technician to repair the system. (Thank you!) Both systems work wonderfully. The rebate/tax incentive process was a problem. If I hadn't been keeping a close eye on all of the paperwork, it would have been a fiasco. The initial documents sent with the installation technician had the wrong (and lower) rebate amount listed-I had to call the office to correct this. Then, when the Check Me! testing was done, the technician provided a wrong name, address, and type of service being provided. I had to call Proctor Engineering Group (whom provide the Check Me! certificate) to sort this out. I also had to call the Energy Trust of Oregon to sort out issues due to the rebate being denied-Tri County hadn't submitted a detailed receipt. I had the same problem with the Oregon tax credit-lack of a detailed receipt. I spent a lot of time on the phone sorting all of these issues out. The State still has an incorrect spelling of my name and a wrong address-I hope this doesn't pose a problem at tax time. I'm still working to correct this. It seems whenever I talk to the State, they have the correct address in their computer, yet all tax documents related to this are mailed to the wrong address. This all stems from the incorrect information provided during the Check Me! testing.

My experience with them overall was really really good. He really knew what he was talking about and saw problems that were left by previous companies. It worked when he left.

They were fine. They showed up when they said they would. They've been very helpful in rebates with the energy trust that Oregon offers. They were professional and cleaned up.

They are constant professionals and they are incredibly responsive. We had some problems getting it up and going and they were here very quickly. They really worked with us to get everything going.

Making the appointment was simple. The van showed up within the promised time frame and the technician got right to work. He did great work and happily explained everything there is to know about AC systems to me when I asked. He helped me figure out a couple different options for fixing my sinking concrete pad and even helped me jack up and adjust the pad to get me through the rest of the summer. Great job!

Maybe it is because First Call is a very large company, but I had to go into a lot of detail over the phone as to what we needed done. I was just calling to see if someone could come out and give us a free estimate on work to be performed. The woman who fielded my call asked about how the ducts were going to need to be changed, etc, etc, everything short of taking pictures and sending it. I thought, isn't this what the guy coming out to look at the work would be for? But I answered her questions. She had to then check with a particular department and get back to me as to when they could come out and how much it would be to come out, if anything (I asked right away since we were just looking for companies that did free estimates). She called promptly the next day to say it would be a $75 fee for them to come out and take a look. We live in the same zip code as the company, and on the phone she had said "oh you're right near us!" So I thought that was incredibly high. I spent a lot of time that in the end was pointless when I could have called someone else. No big deal, but just thought I'd let others know. It seemed to me, our job was small and they didn't really want to waste time coming out if we weren't going to use them. This company has very good ratings, but maybe they aren't for the homeowner with small budgets.

We thought the experience was average - not great, not bad. He arrived on-time, looked at what needed to be done and the did the annual maintenance. We would have liked the base of the AC brushed off better, that is an important part of the maintenance to maintain good air flow. Also, we had asked about getting a better filter system installed. He talked about a few options, but said he would have someone in the office call us back and schedule a different technician to evaluate the situation. We never received a follow-up call. Also, when we turned on the furnace we discovered the old filters had been placed incorrectly. He did not have replacement filters on his truck, stating "I don't have room for all the sizes." Other HVAC companies we have worked with in the past, have called ahead and asked about the size of filters so they can either bring it with them, or have the homeowner pick up a replacement and have it available for installation after the maintenance.

They did an excellent job, I would highly recommend them, they were very responsive and professional. They did a very high quality high job.

Nothing but good things to say about them! I'm used a few other companies that just weren't as good. They weren't the cheapest, but their approach and personnel are superior and they do great work. They pay good attention to detail and were prompt and punctual. They did what they said they would do. They cleaned up and were very tidy. They followed up, and everything was done correctly.

They are great! They have been straightforward about everything. We've worked with them before and they are excellent!
