The tech, Tim, was very professional and friendly, seemed very trustworthy. Fixed the problem quickly. The service call was $89 and the replacement part and work was $119. He was clear about the pricing before moving forward with the work. I will use this company again.

I called for an appointment for the townhouse in West Linn that I own and am getting ready to sell. Right from the get go this company was great. Phaidra helped me coordinate the time( which included one reschedule due to the terrible weather we were having at the time of the original appointment) and arranged for the technician to call me to allow enough time for me to drive over to meet him. Phaidra called, as promised, and when I arrived, Tim was just driving up. He is an impressive young man. He is third generation and told me he had gone to school to learn his trade and by watching him work and talking to him, I could tell he knew what he was doing. I checked in a couple of times as he worked and he was happy to tell me what he was doing and why. He had Jack, a new employee with him to show the ropes to, and they were both very polite and nice. They cleaned up after themselves and they gave me a 20% Angie's List discount, so what's not to like! I will definitely be calling them to service my air conditioner when the weather warms up.
Description of Work: Performed service on furnace. Cleaned burners, heat exchanges, flame sensor, checked pressure port, filter, venting. Vacuumed furnace cabinet.

Clyde, Gordon and Tim designed and installed a two valve, to speed 96.6 efficiency furnace in a location that required creativity and craftsmanship. They did the job right, on time and at a fair price.

Though he needed a part, he returned within 30 mins, System was thoroughly checked inside and out and is now functioning properly.

+ -1 moreAfter calling a couple of HVAC companies to get a feel for the cost of the job; I settled on Ben's Heating & Air Conditioning LLC and made an appointment. Jason showed up ahead of time and looked over the situation right away and quoted a reasonable price. After a quick trip for materials he returned with a helper, Alan, and went right to work finishing up in a couple of hours. I feel that he did a quality job with good workmanship.
Description of Work: During the recent roof replacement on my house I found that the section of gas furnace chimney that went through the roof, along with the flashing, storm collar, and cap had to be replaced.

+ -1 moreI'm submitting this review for the benefit of Ben's Heating and Air Conditioning, not public viewing, because I don't really know yet to what extent the examination and "tune-up" of my furnace was thorough and whether what I was told about needing a new furnace was fully true - i.e., there really are no other feasible options - or if the goal from the start was to sell a new furnace. I do not expect to be in my house more than another 10 years and I do not have the money to replace the furnace now, unless maybe I can find a reconditioned furnace instead of a new one. So it's very important to me that I get information on all my options. I don't recall the exact date of my service, but it was in the late fall, either late November or very early December.
Description of Work: My furnace and Honeywell electronic air filter were examined and cleaned (some white substance cleaned off from inside the unit), and I was advised that my heat exchanger was cracked and I needed a new furnace. The service provider showed me a couple things to do and gave me suggestions about cleaning my air filter units (very useful suggestions) and told me that carbon monoxide was leaking from my cracked heat exchanger but could not say how much or how urgent it was to replace the unit. I asked if the unit could be repaired and I was told it was too old for that (because parts could not be obtained), but I don't know for sure if some sort of repair is out of the question. I have no way to evaluate the accuracy of the analysis I was given, though. That is why I hadn't written a review yet. The representative of Ben's Heating & AC was friendly, courteous, and seemed to want to be helpful. My assessment of the price fairness is based on my not knowing what such an examination and tune-up might involve in all cases. For me, since the "tune-up" seemed to consist of cleaning the unit and looking at the Honeywell electronic filter (and carefully removing a few pieces of dust) and took about 30 min., I guess the $99 price was reasonable, but if this service had been billed at the normal rate (twice as much), it would have seemed excessive. But maybe this flat fee is sometimes charged for an exam and tune-up that takes 30 minutes and little in the way of servicing but at other times might take an hour or longer and involve a lot more. I just don't know. I have nothing really negative to say about this service visit, but I cannot yet evaluate its quality yet. And if I give a rating of "B", that really does mean "good." I don't use "A" (excellent) every time I'm satisfied with something, because the rating tends to lose its meaning if it's overused.

+ -1 moreIt went very well overall - John was timely on both visits and came back a couple of weeks later to make sure the part was working properly. On his first visit he noticed that the housing for my furnace filter was not originally installed properly. There was space between the filter and housing walls so that dust could still get into the furnace housing. He gave me a price to fix it and I assumed he would deal with it when he came back to re-check the furnace part. When I mentioned it then he said he had contacted a co-worker who was supposed to call me to set an appointment. He said he would call him again right away and have him contact me, and a week later I still have not heard from him. However, that's the only glitch I've encountered,and the only reason for the 'B' on responsiveness. Otherwise, I was very satisfied with John's work and feel more confident in this company than the original installers.
Description of Work: This was an Angies Deal for a furnace checkup. I had had some trouble with the original installers with some installation not done properly, so I wanted to get another opinion. John from Ben's Heating and AC arrived early and was very personable. It was a good thing I had signed up for this deal, as he found water leaking inside the furnace. It was due to a faulty part (this is a three year old furnace) which fortunately was covered by my warranty, though not the labor. He found the part across town and came back later that day and installed it, and I have had no problem since.

We chose Bens because another reviewer had said they were able to come out to fix their furnace within two hours. Sure enough, after we called they were able to come out right away in less than two hours. They identified right away that the pilot light was out. They fixed it in no time flat . They were professional, didn't try to talk us into anything else, A very good company.

Before checking furnace I explained that had been having problems with both heating and AC and that AC had been "fixed" by another company earlier in the summer but was now not working again. Service person did the service, recommended that the control board on the furnace needed to be replaced and recommended that the entire furnace be replaced (80% efficient furnace, it had been originally in stalled in 1990). Also recommended that I immediately call in the service company that had serviced the AC because there was no coolant in the system so, likely, a leak in the system. This turned out to be true. Service person said that Clyde would call to arrange a bid on the system. Clyde called, reviewed the situation and provided a bid for furnace, AC and furnace/AC combo. Clyde was not able to find a replacement part for the AC and so recommended replacement of the entire system with updated system. I received several bids for replacement of the system. All were somewhat comparable in price, warranty, etc. Each was for a different make of furnace and AC. The one comment that I did not appreciate from Clyde was his comment, when he found I was getting other bids, that the new model of Lennox was not as good as older models. They were practically giving those away, he said. Not very professional, I thought. I did go with a different company (the company providing Lennox) because I have worked with the other company in the past and their service and professionalism was impeccable. Ben's did a lot of things really well and I appreciate most of the advice offered.

Description of Work: The tech came out and vacuumed the furnace, checked out everything and made sure it was good to go for the winter. He told me the enviro. cleaner wasn't working any more, told me what it would cost to replace it, and assured me when I asked that the furnace did NOT need replacing yet.
