Great, Steve was a big help.
Description of Work: Our furnace went out in the middle of a snowstorm and cold snap. I tried about a dozen HVAC places and couldn't get anyone to come out. Steve, Comfort Connection's owner was candid with me and said he had a long waiting list and it would be several days before he could make it out but he spent at least a half hour with my husband on the phone walking him through steps he could do himself to see if we could get it working again on our own. He also said we should get someone else to come out if they could come before he could. Really appreciate the old-fashioned customer service and help. We did get another company to come out later that day but I will definitely use Comfort Connection in the future.

We realized on Friday evening that our furnace was not working properly. We had been trying to adjust the heat via the thermostat for a few days, but it kept getting colder. We finally checked the furnace and there was no flame. Attempts by my husband to restart the furnace resulted in a flame returning for only seconds before disappearing again. We hoped it could be fixed with a minor repair. Since it was Friday night, and we didn't want to pay for emergency service, we left a message for another HVAC company, asking that they call us back on Saturday morning. No one did. We re-checked Angies List for a service provider that worked on Saturdays, and found Comfort Connection. We called, and Steven answered right away on a Saturday morning. He was on a job, and had yet another job scheduled (on Saturday!), but offered to come before the day was done to diagnose the problem. He did come, and gave us the option of fixing our 14-15 year old Trane with a new control panel, or replacing it altogether. We talked about risks and possible future problems with a furnace of that age, and about costs and tax credits. We also talked about our concerns with our existing filter system, for which we were going through crates of expensive paper filters every couple of years. (Who wants to throw all that in a landfill?) He recommended the electronic filter system, and knew one that would fit in the same space as our old one. We chose to do the full replacement of both furnace and filter. That was Saturday evening, and Steve made time to do all the work on Monday. The temperature were not too bad, so we were able to get by with our fireplace and space heaters in the meantime. Steven had another job on Monday morning, and agreed to come right after. Originally he said he'd be at our house at 9:30am or so, but it was later in the morning when he arrived. Even so, we didn't care when he came, we were just thrilled he fit it in so soon after our original call! We were only expecting him at 9:30am based on his guesstimate anyway. (He was probably delayed by having to do extra work on the previous project.) He stayed in great phone contact, and we knew he would be a little later than he originally predicted. He worked at our house all day, with an assistant, and completed the job. He did lots of extras, involving duct work, answering questions about airflow, advising my husband of a variety of things he could do himself to save money and improve effectiveness of our heating and air conditioning. He realized we needed a new thermostat and threw it in for cost. He alerted us to some water issues under our house that we did not know about, and need to take action on. Overall, he is a very professional, knowledgeable, helpful guy. We were impressed with his work, and with his willingness to go the extra mile. A day and a half later, we noticed that we did not have hot water, and suspected it may have been shut off when the furnace work was being done. I called Steven, and he was there at our house in literally five minutes. He thought his assistant may have turned off the gas to the hot water heater while working on the furnace, and he wanted to make sure he made it right personally, and immediately. He did. I had developed a couple more questions since the work was done, and he answered thoroughly. I have confidence in his answers. I asked if we should get an annual maintenance contract, and he advised that we really don't need one, especially since we got the electronic filter. He showed us how to keep the filter clean (dish washer) and how to clean the coil in the forced air system with a vacuum. He said he didn't feel right taking our money to do something we could easily do ourselves for free. I was impressed he didn't take my inquiry as a way to make more money -- and he had never tried to sell us on a maintenance contract in the first place. I asked about it on my own, after hearing from friends who have such contracts. After the hot water issue was resolved and my questions were answered, I was in a hurry to get to my office. I drove off without checking to see if my garage door closed. Steven noticed, and made sure to disable the garage door opener so he could close the door for me to make my house more secure until I got home again, then called to let me know. I think most service providers would not have even thought about whether my garage door should be open or closed when they left. I was impressed that Steven noticed, thought about it, and cared enough to take the extra step before he left our propery. He is definitely trustworthy and considerate. Steven is sincere, knowledgeable, and a perfect example of the reason I love Angies List. We got great, speedy help that we have confidence in, and got a great value for our money. We feel really good about finding Steven to do our HVAC work, and will definitely use him again in the future!
Description of Work: Steven replaced our broken furnace and replaced our standard filter system with an electronic filter. He also replaced our manual thermostat with a programable thermostat.

Our heating system failed and I knew I needed a new one. I got a quote from a large hvac provider in the area and was sort of shocked at the price. I spoke to a referral from a friend and also the recommendation from AL. The last two were both small providers, working from their homes. Steven turned out to be a really great choice (the Angie's List choice). His work was excellent. He answered all my questions. He provided several options to consider that made a lot of sense. In the end I felt he helped me choose the right system for our home. The finished work exceeds our expectations. Steven turned out to be a really great choice. His work was excellent. Steve came out to take a look at my house to give me a quote for an air conditioning system. I'd already had a few quotes, so I had some kind of expectation as to what I would be paying. What I liked about Steve's approach was that he was the only company that actually tested my current air flow first, to see what type of air conditioner would be the most efficient for our home. In other words, he wasn't there to sell me the most expensive package. The job itself took less than a day, and Steve and the guys were knowledgeable, skilled, and very professional. The price was exactly as quoted, which was significantly cheaper than any of the other companies I had quotes from. All in all, a great job done by a great company. I will use them again for all our heating and cooling needs.

The control box had been heat damaged a few years ago when the ducting had been dislodged during other work, but it had worked fine for several years even though it was partially melted. I called Steve Connor on a Saturday early afternoon, and he was able to drop by a few hours later. He could not get the replacement unit until Monday morning, so he said he would call Monday am to meet me there. He did not arrive until 3pm due to other priorities, (hence the "good" in punctuality), but he was able to fairly quickly replace the old unit with the new, and replace some of the heat-damaged thermostat wires at the same time. The furnace is now working normally. I would certainly call Comfort Connection again, especially since Steve was able to respond on a Saturday.

The price that I had to charge for replacing the control, reflects the fact that the furnace is a Trane. Unfortunately, Trane OEM parts are more expensive than other brands. Normally, this service call would have cost $75.00-$100.00 less.

Our gas furnace stopped working on one of the coldest nights ever at around 8pm on a Thursday. I searched Angie's List for a 24hr company and that's how I found Steve. My husband gave him a call, explained what was going on with our furnace, and Steve already knew what the problem was. Unfortunately, he didn't have the part needed on hand, but told us he would be able to get it first thing in the morning. He was very concerned as to how we would keep warm for night, and offered us FREE firewood for our wood stove. My husband headed over to his home that night, and Steve loaded up the truck with the firewood. It really was one of the coolest things anyone has done for us. We couldn't thank him enough! The next morning, 630am, Steve called and he was on his way to a**** the furnace. He was right on, and the igniter needed to be replaced. Steve had a job already scheduled that day, so he was able to come back and fix our furnace before the end of the work day. It's been over a month, and we haven't had any more problems with our furnace. I will definitely be calling Comfort Connection for future needs.

I received three estimates from Angie's List contractors for the replacement of my old gas furnace, and the installation of a new central AC system. I decided to go with Comfort Connection because their bid was $3500.00 less than the next lowest bid that I received and Steven, the owner seemed very knowledgeable and he did not try and pressure me into hiring his company. One of the existing problems that I had with my ductwork was that two of the bedrooms upstairs had very low airflow and they did not heat very well. Both of the other contractors tried to sell me furnaces with two stage gas valves with variable speed blower motors to correct this problem. Steven told me that a two stage variable speed furnace would actually make the problem worse because when the furnace reduced down to low fire, and the blower motor also reduced the airflow accordingly, those two bedrooms would have worse airflow than they have now. Instead, he suggested a 95% efficiency multi speed furnace that still qualified for the federal tax credit. I really appreciated his honesty, given the fact that he could easily have sold me the more expensive furnace. He also went up in the attic and rerouted the ductwork to those bedrooms and the airflow improved substantially (although it still is not as good as the other rooms). I also appreciated the fact that he did not charge me any extra for rerouting the ductwork.
Description of Work: Replaced existing gas furnace with a new 95% efficiency gas furnace, installed a new central AC System, and rerouted a portion of my existing duct system.

Although the first time I contacted them I was not able to get through, they returned my call within the following half and hour. I was able to talk to Steve, who was both friendly and helpful as he aided me in trying to determine what eactly was wrong with my furnace and in choosing the most affordable of various options of fixing it. Within three hours of that same day, he had sent someone over who was both courteous, friendly and professional. His work that he completed by that afternoon reflected the efficiency and overall superb customer service I have come to associate with this company.
Description of Work: Comfort Connection thoroughly assesed the condition of my furnace by preforming several tests and found a problem regarding my ignition; after which, they resolved it promptly and efficiently.

I called Steve during the Great July Heat Wave, and he came out the next day and gave an estimate, the second of two we obtained. He explained in great detail what he would do and why he would do it that way, and explained why he would not put the condenser where we wanted (the hotest sunniest side of the house) because it would cut down on efficiency. Instead, he placed it in the shadiest spot. He was also able to complete the job within a few days. His workers were very respectful of our property (all the stuff in the garage), and very courteous. The started around 9 AM and finished around 1:30 same day. The electrician came when expected and finished his part of the job without any problems. Again, very respectful and professional.
Description of Work: Installed new air conditioning unit. This required raising the existing forced air furnace in order to place the coils, tapping into the electrical panel, and placing the condenser. He also had to have a metal piece fabricated to house the coils after raising the furnace, and reduce the height of the large vertical vent that carries cool air to the other vents.

This was my first house and my first experience working with a contractor. I felt comfortable leaving a key for Comfort Connections (CC). The air condition unit had to be replaced because the first one was a lemon. CC assured me the was the second time in his career that the air conditioner did not work right out of the box. They quickly replaced it. CC was not a 100% punctual, but they were installing it a few days before the hottest week of the summer. I had to follow-up a few times, but they got it in before the heatwave and were very responsive to my needs so I have no complaints.

Steven made us feel very comfortable from the first time he came out to bid the job. He was practical, honest and said he could gives us a firm bid for the job. Steven's employee came out to install the unit within a week and had the complete job done in 3 days. Rebuilding the ductwork took about 1 day, and then he came back 2 days later to complete the installation of the compressor and electric air cleaner. The installer kept the work area very clean and organized; no disruption to us. Steven then waited for the weather to rise above 70F, before charging the system to the appropriate pressure of refrigerant. Fortunately, this occurred only 3 or 4 days later. We were very pleased with the work, the price, and our new cool air.
Description of Work: Job performed in April, 2009. Steven gave us a firm bid of $3000 to add a new AC compressor(3 ton Goodman 14 SEER Puron)and coil to our existing furnace. Space near the furnace was very tight, so the company rebuilt the ductwork coming out of the furnace to accommodate the new cooling coil. This was a nice feature, since all other companies simply said the furnace must be moved to make the room. The furnace was located in the upstairs/attic crawlspace, so refrigerant lines had to run under the house and up walls to the unit. He installed a new 220V electrical circuit for the compressor and charged the system with Puron refrigerant. He also replaced our media filter with an updated electric air filter at cost(approx $219)added a damper to control air flow, and 1 new air register.
