FLORENCE SAW SHOP

I called to inquire about renting a piece of rolling equipment. I was treated very nicely on the phone and was agreeable to the price and the size of the equipment I wanted to rent. I mentioned I lived in a small community outside of Florence and upon mentioning the name of my town the person on the other end of the phone groaned..."oh, Deadwood? We don't rent to Deadwood". When I asked why, his reply was..."too many issues"...When I pressed further for an explanation he told me just too many issues. "People not returning equipment then they have to go get it" When I said that was discriminatory, he quickly back-peddled, telling me they have service areas, and that Deadwood is not in their service area. Deadwood is 28 miles from this rental agency. As a state licensed landscape contractor in Oregon, I have to say in the 30 years I've been at this, this is the first time I have been refused service due to our location. They do not advertise any service area and did not mention any service areas until I complained how poorly this was explained, as an after thought to my complaint to discrimination. In any case, it's too bad. As a solution, I contacted C & E rental in Eugene (60 miles away) and there is absolutely no problem in renting to me regardless of the fact that I live in this small, eclectic community. In fact, I'll pick up the trencher I need Sat. morning and return it Monday and only get charged for 1 day as they have a good weekend rate. It's rare for me to ever write reviews, but it was so blatant that the problem was "our community" and not distance. I was not interested in having them deliver so that certainly was not the issue. You rent from who you want. I'll continue to use companies who support small communities and business's regardless of where the job is. Shame on you Florence Saw Shop. As a Oregon native and licensed contractor, your poor business habits based on personal bias will not go un-noticed and you can rest assured I'll do my part to discourage any other contractors or home owners from ever using your services.
