I had a tree that was within 28 inches of the house and i was worried it would do damage. I called for 4 estimates and all 4 were within $100 of each other. I chose Rich's Tree Service. They were out to do the work within a week and they did a very professional job. They did all that I asked and cleaned up to the point that you would not even know a tree was there. I was very pleased with their work

This is the third time I have used this service and they came through with flying colors once again. I not only received a call the day before the crew was to arrive as well as the morning of the appointment, the crew also called me when they were actually headed to my house. Prior notifications are very important to me. When the two man crew arrived, I walked them through the back yard confirming what needed to be done. Within two hours they cleared out two dead dogwood trees, a large bush by the back fence and a dead portion of a remaining tree trunk. They also cut back some very long limbs on a tree that is close to my house and cleared out all the dead limbs that could cause future problems. There was also a small pile of cut logs that they removed for me as well. Then they neatly picked up all the debris and finished cleaning with a leaf blower. The yard was cleaner than when they started! I was very pleased with their professionalism, quick work, and thoroughness in completing all the jobs as I had requested. Their pricing is always reasonable and they make sure that they completely understand what the customer wants. I will continue to use this company for future projects as they really are top notch in their field of service.

I have had Rich's out at least 4 times in the pasts years to maintain trees front and back. They are always professional, on time and always do a thorough job cleaning up.
Description of Work: I had 3 trees cut down and the trimming of a huge 70 year old Silverleaf Maple. As always the crew was on time and went right to work. When they were finished they asked me to come out to see if if I was satisfied, I asked for a few more cuts which was done.

Caleb and Ben came out a little before appointment time. (They were very prompt). I had a sensitive situation with neighboring property so as to not go on neighboring property anymore than necessary to remove trees, which they did very successfully. The quality and efficient use of time getting the job done was excellent! I was very pleased and impressed with the work and prompt service that I had with rich and his company. Rich was very prompt in returning my call visiting the property and providing a prompt estimate. This is the third time I have used Richs tree service and will use them again without hesitation.

Fantastic job! This review should have been written over a year ago when the work was actually done, but life, and lack of time got in my way. I just so happened to have taken a day of vacation from work that particular day and Rich's Tree Service showed up as what I think they refer to as a "filler" job. It was not scheduled, but I knew they would be coming whenever they could fit my project in. The guys were fantastic!! Very professional, SAFE, efficient, and they cleaned up pretty much every last twig. They were very careful of the plants, etc. around the bottom of the tree. Since I happened to be home, they were very patient with all my "inept home-owner" type of questions. One year later now, my tree is gorgeous, and safe and when the wind blows, as it frequently does in East County, I don't even worry about that big tree anymore. They just did such a great job! I am so happy with the work they did.
Description of Work: Pruned a large birch tree down 15 feet from the top and about 7 feet up from the bottom. Also thinned it and took out all of the existing dead wood.

Glenn, their estimator, came out to my property right away to assess the job to be done. We carefully reviewed all the details including the number of trees to be removed along with an old wood pile as well as the white alder that was brittle and loosing limbs. He provided a reasonable estimate for all the services and I called to schedule a date. I was called to let me know that there had been a cancellation so the crew was able to come out earlier on 11/11/15. They had the list of items I had posted to be removed and worked very quickly accomplishing all the tasks to my satisfaction. The stump grinder was especially fascinating to watch as it was run by remote control. They cleaned up the area for me and even placed some old scrap fencing, etc. that was in the foliage into the garbage bin for me since I am on crutches. The crew was very professional, asked questions as necessary and left the property clean and neat. I have used their services in the past and will definitely continue to use them for future jobs. It is a very reliable company!!!

A+ Their bid was right on target for what I have paid annually for these trees to be trimmed. I opted to allow Rich's to come out whenever they could squeeze me in. They communicated with me via telephone prior to coming on a Saturday morning and we're on the job by 8:00am. The trees look great and the guys cleaned up everything before they left. We had requested that some of the larger branches be cut into firewood logs and they had them stacked up for us when they finished. From start to finish an outstanding experience. I will be using them again and again.

Was quite baffled by Rich's Tree Service. I hope People will take heed to our review....We aren't big fans of writing negative reviews; we try to be friendly and mellow about things, but feel our perspective & experience with this Company may be helpful to some who are looking for a reliable Arborist or general Tree Service. It appears that Rich has been in Business since 1989, which can often show consitency & longevity, BUT it can also cause some Companies (and their Employees) to become jaded, rigid, and over confident. If you don't like working with People, and you don't like your line of Business enough to accomodate your Customers, why are you still working in this line of Business?? :-\ The Employee who gave us the Cost Estimate was knowledgeable and accommodating. We talked over the various things we wanted done, etc., and it went fine. The Estimator said our job would take approximately 3 hours. The estimate seemed a little steep for only three hours work, but we decided to go with the flow. We scheduled an appointment to have the agreed upon services performed on a certain date and time frame. We had to schedule out our service about 4 weeks, because they said their crew(s) schedules were full, due to a busy season?! Seemed a bit much, but again, we went with the flow. When we made the appointment they gave us a couple of options...Morning, which was 8AM to Noon; or Afternoon, which was Noon to 4/5PM. We explained that we required Afternoon due to our schedules. We were very careful when scheduling this appointment so that there would not be any issues, especially since we already had to wait 4 weeks for their services. We let them know that we would not be available to answer the door or assit them before Noon. We also asked if they would call us and let us know when they were on their way to our Home. They said they would do that. Both of those requests are reasonable for any Business who actually cares about their Customers...no matter how busy they may be. In reality, that is how professionals should operate...keep to the date and time frame you have committed to. They had left us a voicemail message at 8AM in the morning stating that they would be at our Residence that Afternoon as scheduled. We assumed they would come within the time frame agreed upon. Unfortunately, the crew showed up around an hour and fifteen minutes early because they finished their previous job ahead of schedule. We did not receive any phone call letting us know that they were on their way earlier than scheduled?? We were not ready for them, or able to answer the door to assit them because they arrived outside of the agreed window of time, and they did not call us before hand. We needed to be available for them when they came so we could go over some of the details of the Tree trimming (per the Estimators suggestions) and to give them access to some of the things we needed trimmed. This is a Residence, not an open Park. We needed to meet with them to go over the specifics. We contacted their Admin Office, and the Scheduler was amazingly rude!!! As stated above, we try to go with the flow, but were very frustrated at her arrogance. It was bizarre??!?! Somehow WE were suppose to feel guilty for not being available even though it was their Company that would not keep their commitment as agreed upon!?!? Bare in mind, we didn't set those Afternoon hours with their Company on a whim. We knew what would and would not work for our schedule ahead of time, so we planned with them accordingly. When making the original appointment, never did they say that coming within our scheduled window of time would be a problem, or that giving us a brief heads up via a phone call would be an issue. The Scheduler contacted the crew that had showed up early, and they (and she) were not willing to go to their next job and come back to our Home in the Afternoon time frame. Even if the next job was a good distance away, they should have been more willing to help us since this inconvenience was caused by them. She and the other Clerk on the phone, kept stating that the time frame given was merely an "estimate". Yes, but the time frame estimate was originally acknowledge to be within the Afternoon window, not overlapping so extensively with the Morning time frame. Don't make Morning or Afternoon 'estimates' if your crews won't keep them for the Customers!! The crew chose to simply leave our Residents without accommodating us in any way. If we didn't need the work done, we would not have called the Company for a Cost Estimate....If we didn't need an appointment with the Afternoon time window, then we would have let them know that any time would be okay to arrive. The Scheduler was quite hostile, so we asked to talk with Rich himself, but he was out giving Cost Estimates all day. The Companies reaction and lack of care was astounding!! No matter how many so-called (A) or Five Star ratings these Tree Service crews may get for their actual Tree Trimming & Arborist 'skills', it does NOT address a larger issue with Rich's Tree Service...THEY DON'T REALLY 'NEED' YOUR OR OUR BUSINESS. This isn't just about scheduling conflicts, this is about an underlying issue with the Company regarding Customer Service, attitude, cockiness, and arrogance...likely why they only have three and a half Stars on 'Yelp', as well. The Owner, Rich, should definitely consider changing some of his Customer Service policies, and hire Employees that actually like dealing with the Public, enjoy their job, and are more professional. Why would we or anyone want to support any Company that is 'so busy' with such a poor attitude-that couldn't care less whether they serve you or not? You are just one of the many, and they'll merely move on to the next. If they have a conveyor belt for their Customers, then the smart ones should get off and move on to the plethora of other reputable Tree Service Companies that would sincerely appreciate your/our Business and try to professionally accommodate us. In the end, all Companies reap what they sow. If a Business (new or old) truly needs your money, they will be friendly and professional, both in the Admin Office, and out among the crew members. This was a shockingly hostile, strange, and rude experience for us. We have been honest and forthright in our review. Any reply from the Owner or a Company Rep that says otherwise is untruthful. The Company has no valid excuse for treating us so poorly. Sadly, many established Businesses find it difficult to own up to their mistakes, failings, and errors...and never seem to learn that an apology and conveying themselves with integrity, can go a very long way in helping their overall reputation.

I have used this service a number of times and they have always done fine work with the trees. The last interaction I had with them was disturbing. Half of a tree from my yard fell on in the neighbors yard was cleared away. Rich agreed on a price with the neighbor to cut down the rest of the tree, and was unclear with me about who would pay for it. I cannot say for sure that he was manipulating the situation between neighbors, but it is certainly possible. What was most disturbing was a phone call with Rich after I called about the billing confusion. He was accusatory, rambling, and difficult to manage. I never refused to pay the bill, but he was quick to jump the conclusion that I would. "I could tell you were trouble!" he said. Since conflict resolution is part of my job as a professional counselor, I was truly not handling the situation poorly! So if you use Rich's, just hope that nothing goes wrong. Watch out about billing clarity. Rich's is more expensive than other services. But they do a good job with trees.

They have visited my neighbor twice to climb, clean up and evaluate a large doug fir located on our property line.. The first time we were not at home most of the day and when we returned we found a considerable amount of debris in our yard. They did not mention this to my neighbor, who is unable to go into her backyard, even though they did some clean up of debris for her. The second time they visited, I had mostly cleaned up the debris, but wanted to talk to them about my large doug fir located on the other side of our property. They told my neighbor they would come to my front door when they finished the job for her. Someone in their truck also confirmed they would see me. Between 2:00 and 2:30 PM, they left without seeing me.

After using Rich's Tree Service last year I got them to give me a bid for the last tree I wanted to remove from my yard. They gave me the best price of the three companies I contacted off of Angie's List. I called and was scheduled to have the tree removed in about two weeks. After my experience with this company removing two trees last year I decided I did not have to be home for this job. My wife said they showed up on time and got right to work. When I got home and looked at where the tree use to be I was pleased with the results. I had them grind the stump out as part of the job. I am pleased and feel the value of the service was excellent. Lets face it this is hard work and a young man's job so that is why I feel there is great value in the work they performed. I do not usually give easy grades but I have had two great experiences with this company and would recommend them to anyone.

. Rich's crew arrived promptly at 8:00 AM (Jenny in the office called me the day before to remind me, and also around 8:15 AM on the day the work was done to ask if the crew of 5 had arrived!) It looked like the 7th Army arriving when all the trucks came down the street. The trucks and all the equipment all clean. Ditto for the crew. The conferred with me to make sure that what was to be done, and especially the trees in back, I mentioned one "flower" bed , and asked that no cut limbs and etc.be put in that area, and they were very careful. Since I will be doing the cut up work in the back, they made sure that it wasn't just tossed about., which I appreciate since I am no youngster (pushing 70) so I already started clipping. It was a pleasure the times I went out front to see the progress........and I had at the beginning asked a ball park figure on the time it would take.....around 4 hours....well it took around 7, and they never stopped! I was so impressed! What a professional crew!! After the tree was cut to the ground, then came the root grinder, and by the time that was finished and all completed, it was amazing that that size of tree was gone, and other than some wood chips , one could not tell what size had been there! All the time the crew swept, raked, and power blew all the "mess" and the: sidewalk, parking strip, and street super clean when they left! If you want quality and professionalism, then Rich's Tree Service is the one to have do the job! I have lived in the same NE Portland house for going on 42 years, and I have more work to have them do in the year and years to come. Could I have gotten the job cheaper?......possibly, (originally I had 3 estimates, and Rich's was not the highest) ,but I got a good feel then, and this 3rd time even more so. I am old school, and believe you get what you pay for, I also received a 10% discount for being a repeat customer.
Description of Work: Completely cut down and removed a very old leaning decayed Silver leaf Maple tree. (this was the third time to "save" it) but was very fortunate that it didn't come crashing down this last wind storm (Dec 2014). Plus I had him cut down two other trees in the back yard that were bordering the east and north neighbors houses. Both of these were 25 to 30 ft and even though not an immediate threat like the Maple in the parking strip, none the less they needed to come down.

I hired Rich's Tree Service though Thumbtack. Thumbtack indicated a 7-10 business day window for service from the contractor. Four phone calls with two different schedulers finally resulted in stump grinding service provided 20 business days from hire. In the meanwhile I lost the follow-on contractor who was to repair the fence where the tree was previously. I felt like I was on some kind of surreal reality show where I was being p***'d. On the fourth call I was told they would absolutely have someone there the next day. No show. No explanation. This is the first time I have every felt the need to complain about a contractor and I have hired a couple dozen over the years. If they actually charge me this review will remain as-is. I feel like they owe me money. Do not hire on a timeline.

We had 3 highly rated Angie's List providers out for a quote on trimming a birch tree. Rich's was professional, courteous, and timely in all communications and the appointment. Gentleman that came out was helpful and knowledgeable. We simply went with another provider to due cost. Rich's quoted $650, the other vendor did the job for $250. I would give them another chance though on another job to see what the come in at.

All went smoothly from the estimate to the completed service. Received a call the morning they were scheduled to do the work, stating that I was the first appt of the day and if they were not already there they would be shortly. Originally I had gotten an estimate for all of the work thinking I was going to trim my apple trees, yet decided on the spur of the moment to cut them down. They gave me a quote on the spot and completed the job in a timely manner. The trees were cut up in manageable lenths for firewood and all brush and debris was removed. I have used Rich's Tree Sevice many times and have always been happy with them

I received a call in the morning saying the guys were on their way. They arrived, went over the list of the items on the bid. Reviewed each one and if there was any doubt about the service they asked again to verify what I wanted, explaining once done can't be undone, basically. They were respectfully of my landscaping and the neighbors landscaping. They parked and put safety cones on the roadway. The tree removal required a large truck to be parked in a neighbors driveway which was worked out ahead of the service. Both trees required working around electrical and cable lines. I asked that the gas line be marked and they called ahead to have the service for electrical and gas. We are not a present finished with the service due to additional grinding to be done but this is the 3rd time I have used Rich's and recommend them to anyone especially if dealing with large trees and tight spaces.

The beech tree had been planted way too close to the house, and we were worried what the roots might do to the house foundation. The tree was quite large (way over the roof of our 2-story house), and they did an excellent job of cutting it down--and grinding out the stump like we had asked. They also did a good job of cleaning out deadwood and shaping back the plum tree that overhangs a side patio. If anything, they might have cut it back a bit too much, but since we only have this 'trim up' done once every 5 yrs or so, it won't be long before it fills in again.
