We recently purchased two mattresses and two movable bases (motorized frames that raise and lower the bed itself ? yep, we?re old folks!) from SleepCountry. It was certainly a stressful experience although the final product seems acceptable. Learn from us, please. There are serious cooperate communication problems in this company and unless you can asseryt yourself when the occasion arise I?m guessing you may be unhappy. Here?s our experience: The employees of the store were pleasant but so many mistakes were made during sales, purchase, and delivery that we feel the need to caution future buyers. To start with, there was a serious error made when they first quoted the total purchase price. We were pleased with that estimate but then, when it was time to finalize the purchase, the salesperson noted he had forgotten to include a movable base. This is a major expense so the final price went up quite a bit. (We?ve been around long enough that we don?t think this was anything but an honest mistake.) Then came delivery. Because of where we live we clearly told the sales people (including a store manager) that a ?short truck? was needed. They noted this on the delivery order but when the truck showed up they could not negotiate the driveway and the employees left without delivery. When we called to ask SleepCountry how they were going to deliver the bed they said they would try to get it on the next day?s schedule. I asked them when that might be and they said ?we won?t know for another 12 hours.? I was going to have to take another day off to accommodate their screw-up and their scheduling system didn?t care. We then called and threatened to cancel the entire order and, suddenly, they were able to make a window appear that same evening. Lastly, the delivery guys did a great job moving heavy and awkward material up and down stairs. They did fine setting it all up but then? ?we noticed that the movable bases that had been delivered was not the same kind as the units shown to us at the store. One was a Prodigy (more expensive and quieter) and the other was an S-Cape. The drivers had left by then so we called the store again. The salespeople said ?yes, we know that they are different units. The one we showed you (quieter and more expensive) had been discontinued?. Wait? Discontinued from two days ago? No, ?we were told, ?it was only a floor model and not supposed to be sold.? Although this type of sales behavior is very close to bait-and-switch we still believe that the base we got (although not the one we were shown) was purchased at a fair price. Summary? Be very clear that the folks at SleepCountry will stand behind their product from initial sales to delivery to set up. Be very aware that communication between sales, delivery, and district managers is sometimes poor. Be sure to look at other companies products and do you research so you can assert yourself from a position of knowledge. Be sure to get numbers of corporate offices and district managers to resolve issues.
