Project (overlay existing patio with approx. 6 inches concrete) went very well. Tom was very responsive and so easy to work with. He and his crew, all very nice guys, were very efficient, on-time every day until finished, careful with everything and left everything clean and tidy after finishing. Very good experience and would definitely use again - and highly recommend.

Tom did a fantastic job! He removed our 1920's era driveway, front steps, and top of the front porch. He brought in a stonemason to build a retaining wall and re-poured all that he had torn out while adding some much-needed drainage. Tom and his guys are polite, prompt and clean up the job site each day. Tom kept us apprised of what he expected to do next. It was a big project and we couldn't be happier with the finished product.

They exceeded all my expectations. When Tom Wilsterman came to my house to go give me a quote he told me “when we are done I want you to step out on your porch and say Ha! This is beautiful ”. He was totally right, I absolutely love the finished product, his crew were very polite, very efficient and did exactly what they said they would do in the time frame they gave me. They cleaned everything after the work was completed and left behind a beautiful beautiful , new driveway. !

In one word, they are impressive. The say the devil is in the details, and these men cover all the details, in addition to making recommendations for improvements. These partners are not only 1 of 2 companies recommended on Angie's List (35 aren't), they are responsive to quoting, always available by phone, fast and reliable. Their prices are fair; but the great attitudes they have are priceless. They are well worth any wait. They took a 14'x40' disaster and turned it into a thing of beauty. I've got photographic evidence if anyone is interested. What's sad, is I live in Bartlesville; but had to go to the Tulsa area to get anyone interested enough to bid the work fairly. These men not only worked magic, but they also connected me with two other contractors who have quoted and are scheduled to do work for me. What an overall positive experience, when there are so many trying to scam you for a dollar. I would definitely use them again. Thanks Mike & Tom!!!

We were thinking about replacing an old wooden deck with a concrete one and went to several vendors asking for bids and ideas. Tom and Mike offered some really good ideas and their price was a little higher than the others but we went with them because I was impressed with their expertise. Their crew was extremely courteous and professional and did a fantastic job. They also took care of a few minor things that were not part of the original bid and even wound up coming in under their estimate. If you are looking for honest, hard working, and competent professionals to do any concrete work work, look no further. I would highly recommend them.

We had decided to address a four year old problem of a very small patio, with a slope of 1/2inch per foot, making it nearly unusable.  We had a number of concrete contractors come in and review our needs; the only folks who seemed to really know how to address our problem were By Design Contracting.  Mike and Tom were thoughtful, surveying our project thoroughly and offering a number of options to give us what we wanted.

While their price was not the lowest, we felt that they had the expertise to do a great job on our patio.

The finished job was fantastic!  They were careful to put everything back in it's original state after finishing the concrete work.

We would heartily recommend them!

It took them a while to finally get to work on the project due to all the weather issues here in the Tulsa area. But, once they got started it went just as planned and they explained very well all that they would do. Mike was great to work with and he actually came in under his estimate. Patio looks great and we would definitely use them again.

They were very professional, great to work with, their price was very competitive, and they did a fabulous job.  We would do business with them any time, and highly recommend them to anyone who needs concrete work.  You won't be disappointed if you hire them!

This was without a doubt the best experience we had by ANY contractor.  I contacted them Friday, September 12 and they called me back on Sunday the 14th.  They came out Sunday afternoon gave me an estimate at around 4:30.  I accepted their propsal around 7 PM and they said they will start on Monday.  They were VERY prompt, they came when they said they will.  Worked all day without any stoppage except for 1/2 hour lunch.  The new concrete was poured on Tuesday.  Because the concrete was so close to the wood fence, three panels were broken at the bottom.  When they came on Wednesday to finish up, they replace the 3 broken panels.  Needless to say, THEY ARE GREAT!!!

It went beautifully.  The owners were very pleasant to work with and their helpers were hard workers and did whatever we requested.  It took some time to do, as they only tore out parts of the drive at a time, put in the rebar, then poured new concrete, finished the surface, and let it dry while they began working on other sections of the drive. They also leveled a large parking area at the back of the drive which had been sloped, and made it great for shooting baskets in the nearby basketball goal.  It was well coordinated and we have a beautiful, smooth driveway.  We are very pleased and would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone who is looking for similar work.

I think they did really well. I was really happy with them. They kept to their price and they did it in the projected time and the work was very satisfactory.

Mike met with me and I explained that I wanted a larger patio that would be covered by a pergola and a privacy lattice wall on one end.  I also wanted to eliminate the existing concrete step just outside my patio door.  To accomplish this, he suggested simply capping the small existing concrete patio and extending the patio as I had described.  The job went very smoothly with no surprises.  The workmen laid down plywood sheets to protect my lawn from the concrete buggy that was used to get the concrete from the street to the backyard.  Mike met with me again to further explain the process and the concrete color choices and stamp pattern options.  I appreciated his willingness to listen and act on my decisions, and he gave me valuable suggestions along the way.  The finished patio looks better than I could have envisioned.  The work site was kept cleaned up each day.  The crew was very cordial at all times.  Mike suggested a company he was familiar with for the construction of the pergola.  That job was recently completed to my satisfaction as well.

.   I had recently had a railroad tie retaining wall replaced with interlocking bricks.  By Design installed a sidewalk that blended in color and texture with the retaining wall.  They worked with me on drainage concerns and 'ugly concrete' perceptions.  They were punctual, professional, & personable.  I am happy (so are the pets who believe the sidewalk was installed so they could lay in the sun).

Got a professional bid from Tom and lots of communication as well...an exception to how most do business.  Tom's group removed gravel and the previous French drain that was undersized.  Installed surface drains and a series of 4 inch pipes to collect water and take it out to the street.  Previously the rain overwhelmed the French drain, water backed up about 5-6 inches on the outside wall of my house and seeped into the house flooding the carpets.  Once all the in-ground plumbing was installed, Tom's group poured a concrete curb and a bunch of concrete (which they colored and added a decorative stamp to).  Have had two major rain storms since the entire rework and if there is any standing water (as it is running towards the surface drains), it is only about 1/4 inch in depth...which is normal runoff depth.  That entire section of the house could handle a Noah's Ark type flood with no problem.  One could maybe argue that it was somewhat over-engineered but after two floods inside the house, I don't think you could ever get too cautious.  Also, unlike the grave solution before, concrete is pretty permanent.  So it would be better to err on the side of over-engineering than under-engineering.  I am extremely pleased with their work and their understanding of water drainage issues.  If fact, on the initial bid, Tom mentioned that they like to solve challenges when it comes to drainage.  And they are apparently really good at solving problems from what I've seen.  They had to dig up the front yard to run the drain pipes to the curb.  When they finished that process, you could hardly tell they had been there.  They offloaded all the dirt onto 4x8 sheets of plywood and then put it back into the ground.  Amazing.  Not sure how their pricing compares since all the other bidders just wanted to pour some concrete and be done.  I plan on replacing all the concrete around my swimming pool next year and will have Tom's group do that job as well.  If you are having water issues, look no further.

I have to say these were the nicest gentlemen to deal with through the whole process of construction.  There communication was great before, during and after the project was finished.   My neighbor has a tree she is very fond of and they had to cut a few branches off to be able to get  the bobcat to our backyard.  They used 2x4's to lift the rest  of the branches and also put a piece of cardboard over the top of the bobcat every time they went in and out, so that it wouldn't  scratch the branches.  Now, I would say that is paying attention to detail and having consideration.  They were great and I would highly recommend them for your job.

Mike provided a timely  and detailed estimate including additional recommendations to improve the water drainage in the area.  Upon accepting the job, he stayed in contact prior to the job date and gave me updates on when his crew would be available.  He was correct in his estimated time to complete the job.   The most satisfactory part of the experience is when I called called back to report that the drainage was not adequate.  Mike worked this into his schedule and returned to add additional concrete work to correct the problem.  He was courteous in this call back work and ask that I keep him updated on how the drainage performed during the next heavy rain.
