It was an account that we deposited coins into from our laundry machines. We had never been overdrawn or had any issue. I made multiple calls to the bank asking for a reason and the employees said they could not say why the account was abruptly closed. I ended up writing a letter to the banking regulators and finally, a month later, received the funds... but never an explanation. They said to refer to the documents that are signed when opening an account that gives them the right to close accounts at their discretion. Wow!
Description of Work: The branch in OKC closed our account without notice and never gave an explanation.

We live in San Diego but have apartments with laundry machines in Oklahoma City. In 2011, my husband flew to OKC to open an account at a bank with a coin counter so our laundry machine coins could be easily deposited. He found & opened an account at MidFirst at 5801 NW 39th St. All was well until late last month when our employee went to make her usual weekly coin deposit & was told the account was frozen. Living in CA and not able to walk into a branch, my husband tried to log on to the account and found that on-line access was also denied. He then called the branch & spoke with Raquel Collins who was not only unhelpful, but rude and unprofessional, too. She would not tell him why the acct was disabled... told him to read the letter that had been sent. He said he hadn't received a letter and asked to what address it was sent and found it had been sent to an old address even though our new address had been updated via their website over a year ago! Still, she would not disclose what was in the letter and/or the reason for the disabled acct. Weeks have gone by & yesterday we finally received "the letter", which basically said that MidFirst is exercising its right to close the acct pursuant to paragraph 11 of the Policy Disclosure. I looked that up and it says that MidFirst may, at any time and without prior notice refuse deposits, hold funds and disable an acct. Mind you, this account was NEVER overdrawn, it was used lawfully and according to MidFirst Bank rules, the funds were reported to state and federal agencies... there is not any reason that we can imagine that MidFirst would do this. What is particularly unbelievable is that NO ONE will tell us why! Surely if there had been a fraud attempt the bank would have reached my husband by text, email or phone... all contact numbers that they have and always have had. So, my husband has filed a complaint with the U.S. Dept of the Treasury, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and sent a notarized letter requesting the return of the funds and a written statement so we can go through and verify transactions. We'll see what happens!
