Shoe Repair
Background: Long-time customer, over 20 years. Even followed when store location changed. I have had everything leather repaired by Jerry Fina's shop, belt, boots, and even a leather backpack. One pair of cowboy boots has been repaired by them four times. I have always been proud to say that I have been a customer for such a long time and have recommended them to dozens of folks. I am a public school special education teacher and disabled veteran and must make careful financial choices. My first pair of really nice dress shoes ever (an outrageous $165 for a teacher) in my career purchased from Joseph A. Banks lasted about four months. The store encouraged me to send the back for free and wait the 2-4 weeks for replacement. I wear them every other day and couldn't do that. So, I went to my long-time cobbler, Jerry at Dee's. I am a strong supporter of "mom and pop" businesses and was willing to pay the pricey sum as it accomplished two objectives: getting my shoes working and on my feet quickly, and supporting local business. My issue: The repairs cost more than I expected. The gentleman responded to my balking by promising a spectacular shoe shine that would gleam. (As an Airborne Infantry veteran, that certainly appeals to me; I know the value of a good shoe shine because I "spit-shine" all my leather footwear.) The repairs were not completed when promised. I had to return a few hours later. No problem; it happens. When the shoes were presented, they did not gleam and shine as promised. Again no problem; there are not many people that can tell the difference. I'm picky about my shoe shine and should expect that level of precision from others. Three days later, the soles of both of my shoes are coming apart. The embarrassing part is that it was noticed during a meeting with an administrator. A closer look at home and I see that not only were the shoes not shined properly, not repaired properly, but had also been damaged. Each shoe had been gouged on the leather, I assume, attempting to remove the old sole. I took the shoes back to Dee's (third visit - one pair of shoes) to be addressed. Patrick, after showing him the soles, literally split in half, responded with "Yeah, that sometimes happens. I can fix that in a couple of minutes if you'd like." I sat in the shop, waiting in my socks. A little emabarrassing in a tie and jacket. He returned a few minutes later as promised, the soles returned to one piece and offered an unintentional empty apology. I explained all three complaints and requested that owner contact me. The gentleman, out of nowhere stated that he wasn't authorized to give me a refund. I never asked for anything other than the phone call from the owner. Which I received the next morning. The owner, Jerry, after I explained the situation, asked what I wanted him to do. As a customer with a complaint, I expect the business will take responsibility for the problem and for determining, or at least offering, a fair solution, and stated this to Jerry. I will not ask for a refund or discount or complimentary services, ever. If I am important as a customer, it will be clearly shown by how it is resolved. Jerry became angry, and started raising his voice. I apologized (yes, I apologized!) it wasn't my intent to frustrate him, only to seek resolution. Never once did I raise my voice or use unprofessional language or ask for anything other than a resolution. His anger became outrage and he launched into a screaming, profanity laced verbal assault one would expect from a poorly behaved child. Literally cussing me out; "F" bombs included. I am shocked and saddened to recommend that folks avoid Dee' Shoe Repair if they wish to be treated with dignity and respect. This owner's pitiful professionalism, poor self-control, and lack of character shouldn't have to be endured by anyone.

I paid $10 up front for the repair. I was given a choice when I could pick up the boots. They were ready when I arrived and look absolutely perfect!

They said it would take a week. I went back in a week to the day and the clerk paused before he said that
he knew the purse and that if I wanted to wait, he would quickly stitch it. I said and quot;NO! I want it done right and
I'll come back in a week.and quot; When I came back the following week, they had not stitched down the same row
of previous stitching so that the holes left from the previous stitching showed. Not a professional job at all.

Dee's re-glued the fronts of the soles on a pair of Cole Haan loafers that I've loved for many years. Well, I got the shoes home and wore them one time, only to find that the glue used hadn't "set up." I marched back to Dee's and explained the situation, fully expecting them to be snippy. They were, it turns out, anything but. The fellow behind the counter apologized profusely and told me that they would be happy to make things right free of charge. (As it should be.) I have always found Dee's to be friendly and quick to finish work, but now it's cinched -- I'll always take them my shoe repair business from now on.
