They were very professional and did a very good job. They followed through on what they originally said they would do. I was really impressed with the quality of the work and the cleanup.
Description of Work: They completely tore-off and replaced a portion of my roof on the garage and breezeway.

Everything went great. Great communication, timely, and punctual. They did everything that needed to be done and helped out with the items that couldn't be included on the estimate.

I checked out two other roofers before selecting Big Sky – one I found on Angie’s List (with a very patriotic name) and the other was the next door neighbor’s son who did the roof on my other house. The neighbor made us a respectable offer, but then bowed out because our roof is more complicated than most (our house has both shingles and a flat roof and he would have to sub-contract for the flat part). This left the two from Angie’s list as contenders. In the end, Big Sky offered better a product with a lower overall cost. Jason Casteel at Big Sky seemed to know more about the different kinds of flat roofs. He spoke knowledgeably about the different surfaces and he recommended the top option because it was stronger and much more energy efficient. They were also certified by the TPO manufacturer. And this was still cheaper than the lower option from the other guys. The shingles themselves were identical to the competition's, but the underlayment was superior and they offered to re-deck the upper roof portion as well. But the most important thing was Jason's commitment to making us happy. He understands that Angie’s List customers will ultimately report on their experience and he wants to continue getting great leads from there. In order to do that, he dedicates himself to customer satisfaction. And let me say, he had his hands pretty full with us. The crew that did the install was courteous and prompt. They showed up early and stayed late every day. They were professional and they did not mind me up there taking pictures and bugging them sometimes. This was a pretty big job as they had to take off the shaker shingles and redeck the entire house. This produced an enormous amount of debris, but when it was all over they cleaned up quite good. Since this was a complicated roof (having both flat and angled roofing) there were some things that did not go quite as planned. For instance we went with whirly-birds instead of ridge-vents because of the shallow roof angle. I also had them put a bathroom vent pipe in (which they did for no extra charge), two extra roof vents over the porch, and they removed an extra vent on the other side of the house. At the end of the job, we had them redo some bent drip-edge and then repaint some of the roof vents and flashing. My wife was very particular about some of the finishing touches and I had to step back and let Jason and her hash it out. Let me say, Jason was very patient. He kept working until she was as happy as me. I am very pleased with our experience with Big Sky. Jason has a good thing going. I will be looking for other services on Angie’s List in the future and I hope every one of them is as respectable and affordable as Big Sky.
Description of Work: Big Sky delivered materials to the driveway with a huge dumpster taking up one lane. They did a complete tear-off of a 2,500 sq. ft. house including tearing off the shaker type shingles. They redecked with OSB and installed part composite shingles and part thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) single-ply roofing membrane. They cleaned up and came back for corrections and finishing touches.

I called out Big Sky Roofing to get an estimate on a complete roof replacement. I just assumed that it would need to be replaced, so I was very happy to learn that the roof was in good shape and was really just in need of a few simple repairs. Big Sky sent out Jason Casteel to perform the estimate and I was most pleased and appreciate of his estimate and advice. He seemed very knowledgeable about the various insurance companies and knew how I should proceed. I received a very honest estimate and was very happy with the work. I wasn't in a rush to get the work done, but Jason was diligent about following up with me via email and scheduling the work at my convenience. I was also happy that the work was completed while I wasn't home and was billed later. Thanks to Jason for great and professional service and the whole big sky team! I will definitely call you guys after the next hail storm rolls through!
Description of Work: Roof repairs that included repairing various "nail pops", caulked and sealed around my chimney, solar tube, and "pipe jacks". Also installed an air vent over my garage.

When we first contacted Big Sky Roofing, they scheduled a technician to come out and estimate the cost to repair our wind damaged roof. They also scheduled a repair date. Both appointments were kept and the repair was accomplished. The roof looks like it was never damaged. Very professional job, excellent customer relations, highly recommended for any type of roof repair!
Description of Work: Bigsky Roofing did an excellent job with our roof repair. Everything was done in a superlative manner, with the roof and the yard left spotlessly clean. I highly recommend them for any sort of roof repair.

Even though I called Big Sky Companies, I chose Larry Sutton as my inside painting contractor. Big Sky companies was very wise to hire Larry and lucky he accepted their job offer. A service company is only as good as the employees it offers. Larry capably assessed the problems on my ceiling and walls. As we talked and looked at the hail damage, he realized I needed to go back to State Farm and ask them to reassess the damage. The water damage occurred in my dining room, and the same wall continues on into my grand room. I talked to State Farm and sent photos showing how, in fact, it was one wall in the 2 areas. SF ask me to get a bid from Larry. He wrote a thorough bid for them and talked to them. They were impressed with him and his work. End result ? SF sent $ to cover both rooms and ceilings. Larry assured me he wanted the painting to be excellent and even meticulous. Since I have painted rooms in the past, I had several questions. So many times contractors don't listen to what the homeowner needs and wants. Larry answered my questions with knowledge and patience and respect. When the first group of painters came, I thought maybe I had picked the wrong company for the job. They were cheerful, but as they began to mask off the beams, I could tell there would be problems - the masking tape was not straight and therefore there would have been white ceiling paint on the unpainted wooden beams. When Larry checked their work, he pointed it out to them before I even spoke to him about it. They said ?It's fine, it's all OK? in a very condescending or arrogant way. The next day, Larry brought in a different crew - Derek and Jimmy to be my painters. They obviously, respected him and listened to him as he directed and guided their work. Larry knew the first crew could not do my painting job to the level he and I expected. I am so grateful he made the wise decision to know which crew was capable to give me the result I expected. Larry was always professional, on time, answered my phone calls immediately or within minutes. He was confident, not egotistical like so many contractors. And, he was well groomed and trustworthy. He promised an excellent result and followed thru with one. I would definitely recommend, Larry Sutton, no matter where he works. Derek McNeff and Jimmy McGuire are the best painters I've ever had the pleasure of having in any of my homes. Big Sky Companies can count themselves lucky to have them as part of their crew. Their painting job is beautiful and meticulous. They were always pleasant and respectful. They were careful with my belonging and carpet and left no harm done. They were clean and polite. Considering the mess that must be made to paint ceilings and walls, they contained it, confined it and then cleaned it up when they finished. While I'm glad to have the work finished, I miss their cheerful chatter while they worked. When a job takes about 2 weeks, you want workers like them to make the chaos as painless as possible. I would definitely recommend Derek McNeff and Jimmy McGuire no matter where they work.
Description of Work: I live in a multi-level house with large, unpainted wooden beams on my cathedral ceilings and most of the walls are slanted to the high ceiling. When the hail storm of 2010 caused my wooden shingles to fail, I got rain inside my home causing water marks on ceiling and walls. The living and dining room walls and ceilings were painted. I selected the paint color. They used a product to prepare the walls and ceiling where the rain stained them. They patched and prepared existing cracks in the walls, then resurfaced them. They used a spray painter on my ceiling due to the popcorn surface - but were careful to seal off vents and doors that led to rest of the house. They cut new boards for the corners of my walls where needed. They used hand rollers on the walls, after careful preparation of all things in the rooms. After the painting was done they unwrapped everything and put the furniture back in place. They also unwired a wall scone to paint and rewired it back in place when finished. It was definitely an "A" job. The reason I gave a "B" on price - who wouldn't want a lower price. But, I agreed to the price because I thought it was reasonable. I forgot to mention - after the insurance work was done, I contracted for them to also paint my entry way walls. One wall was wallpapered. They prepared it in such a way that they could then resurface it and paint over it - giving it a much needed, updated look. Two walls had major cracks - now you can not see where they were. When the work was done, after the mortgage company inspected the work to make sure the work was finished, they sent my Insurance check. I include this to relate that Larry never hastled me about payment. He was paid, by the way, within 2 weeks, because I did due diligence to get the check for Big Sky - made all the calls, met the final adjustor when it was convenient for him, sent in all the required information to the mortgage company. I figured the job was not done until it was paid for.

We found several shingles in our yard following a wind storm. So, initially we called Big Sky to replace missing shingles. Upon a roof inspection, Big Sky informed us we only had two small shingles missing, and the shingles we found in our yard belonged to our neighbors. We also needed guttering installed on two sides of our house, and Big Sky informed us they would also did guttering. They gave us a quote on the guttering and said if we would contract with them for the guttering they would replace the shingles for no charge. The job was completed on the date they said it would be completed and they did an outstanding job! They even repaired/replaced a small strip of guttering our builder had improperly installed! They were prompt, professional and did an outstanding job!

They were able to get to my job very quickly. They showed up promplty as agreed and finished the work in one day. The work was done professionally and the area was cleaned up afterward. These guys absolutely stand behind their work like no other company I've ever dealt with. We purchased a home in 2008 that has a flat roof over the atrium. Flat roofs are a pain and they leak. Big sky came out and repaired and re-roofed the atrium. Sometime later it developed a small leak. Big sky came out again and patched the leaks. No leaks until last month. I called to ask them to look at it even though I was about six months out of warranty. They came out and said they were going to completely re-do the roof, raise and box the sky lights and add a slight pitch to the roof. They brought out a crew of three very hard working roofers, big trucks, front loader, wood for the sky light boxes. They worked the entire day, fixed and re-roofed the atrium. I offered to pay as I was out of warranty but they refused. They are 100% concerned with customer satisfaction and fixing problems. In the world of roofing bids you will most likely find many bids lower than Big Sky but you will not find any company that will do a better job or stand behind their work like Big Sky. I assure you when it comes time to re-roof the entire home I will not bother with any bids. I will use Big Sky Roofing because I know that if I run into problems I can count on them to fix it and make sure it stays fixed. They leave their work area spotless.

They were excellent, start to finish. Jason Casteel came out to our house to examine our roof and answer our questions. He was on time, professional, and friendly. He answered all of our questions, even when we asked them more than once! The roofers that came out to the house were polite and professional. They cleaned up well after themselves. Jason came out after the roof was finished to inspect the work. Again he was professional and friendly. We have been very satisfied with this company, would use them again for our home, and recommend them to anyone else!

Needed roof turbines replaces due to excessive noise, most probably damaged or worn out. The first step was an inspection which revealed the additional rotted vent boots. The estimate was competitive but these folks have the customer service flare. The office called to let me know that the guy was running late and ask if I could still accommodate him for the inspection that day. The roofing crew was efficient, did an pretty good job with clean-up. Most helpful was that they were able to help us by contacting the office and recommending at structural engineer for other roofing issues which have developed. We are thrilled to be working with people who know what they are doing and are very customer service oriented. Most probably will have the other roof problems fixed by the same company. We have issues due to a very poor framing job by the original builder which were let slide by city inspector at time of construction. Job done well.

Very pleased with Big Sky. We have a flat section of roof that we were concerned about and they did an excellent job with it. Regular roof looks great too. We used Big Sky because our insurance agent recommended them as well as the rating they have on Angie's List. We got four quotes for the job and Big Sky was the best. Their workers cleaned up completely when they were through.

They did a beautiful job and were very professional. Came back out at the end of the job to inspect the work, knocked the pad off for the security system and made sure that was working again which I appreciated. They left the place very clean and I couldn't ask for anyone better. Price was comparable with other estimates I had received. He also gave me a 5 year warranty on workmanship. He reminded me before he left to have the roof inspected from time to time due to the warranty. UPDATE: The flat roof portion was probably not sealed off correctly to allow water to drain appropriately. Water is running from the roof and debris constantly keeps the gutter filled. Water runs along the tip edge of the large porch and just runs off the roof onto the flat roof and is destroying it by just standing on the roof. There seems like there is no coating on the flat roof and so it is being damaged by water. At the time the work was done I didn't realize what a problem this was, but over the years it has caused more problems. I don't know whether the gutter was put on properly, but I never had this problem in the past. I have taken pictures of this. I have been told that the company would repair the flat roof at their expense, but I cannot get them to come out and fix it despite that. They have refused to return my calls. I think the workers who were out here did a professional job, but I was quite upset with the manager. He would be sitting on my porch before I even woke up, and took far too active a hand in dealing with the insurance money. Since then I have found that that manager is no longer working with the company. Now I just want them to honor their five year warranty and repair the porch. The quality of the work on the rest of the roof was excellent, but I am grading their quality of the flat roof as a failure. The workers came out here on time, and at first they were always on time, but their production manager, Jason Castille, was about 30 minutes late when he came out.

Response from Big Sky Roofing
The roof was done Dec 9th 2010, the guttering attached to the flat was never replaced. No agreement or contract was established for its replacement. The direct cause of the wood damage to the porch below was in fact the guttering, not the workmanship of the flat roof. No mention of any warranty issues or leaks had been mentioned by the homeowner until recently. The photos we have of the wood show years of rot, also the posts that have the most rot are completely exposed to the elements, and have been for years. Water tests performed by us have proven there are NO leaks in the flat roof section. An offer was made to replace the guttering that was causing the problem but was rejected by the homeowner. The roof was inspected 2 months ago and showed signs of new storm damage. Advised homeowner to call her insurance company for an evaluation but she refused. Typically when a roof has been damaged by severe weather during our warranty period, depending on the type of damage, the warrant is voided because we cannot be held responsible for the new storm damage causing leaks or other issues. Jason Casteel To whom this may concern, I, Jason Casteel, being a representative of Big Sky Companies have completed an thorough inspection of the roof at [member address removed]. The customer has indicated that there is a leak in the flat rolled roofing system over the front patio. The guttering on the south part of the flat was never replaced when the roof was done November 5th, 2010. The gutter was filled with debris which caused it to sag and bend, thus causing the water to shed on the porch wood work below. The wind turbines are hail damaged along with many of the shingles and pipe boots. Recommend homeowner contacts her insurance company for advice and claim concerns. The flat roofing system will be repaired at Big Sky’s expense as the 5 year workmanship warranty is still in place. Pictures of the water damaged wood work under the port are available. Please feel free to contact me with further questions. Kind regards, Jason Casteel Production Manager Big Sky Companies (405) 843-9933

Called based on Angie's List feedback. Received quick and courteous service on estimates. This took place after a MAJOR hailstorm, so the entire area was crawling with roofing crews. The crew they used was fast and efficient. There was a minor issue over how one area was covered, but it was handled with a minimum of fuss. Afterward, there was some confusion because of the insurance company, but Big Sky was fair in their stance. Overall, a good experience during a really chaotic time to searching for a roofer.

They did a very good job. They were in and out very quickly. They cleaned up after themselves. Their bid was almost exactly what the insurance bid was. When they came in the same price as the insurance I was surprised. That was great! The quality looks good and my friend who is an engineer said it looks good as well. They were very responsive. They were also very punctual. I was going on vacation in the middle of all of this and they had to wait to put the roof on until I returned. They were very good about working with my schedule. I had little contact with them. They were in and out and done. Everyone in the company I had contact with was very nice. I will work with them again, as they are going to paint my house.

Called Big Sky after seeing their ratings and recommendations on Angie's List. After receiving 4 different roofing quotes we chose to use Big Sky. Their quote for the roof was in-line with 2 of the 3 other roofing companies' but Big Sky seemed to have a better quality customer service. Initial contact was with Raquel and she was very pleasant and informative. She even assisted in giving referral outside of their company for other work we plan to have done to our home. Jason Casteel was very prompt and available to answer any questions or address any concerns. The crew that was sent out to do the job was very quiet, clean and courteous. Due to a lot of decking repairs and extra felt from previous roofing job, I believe the job took a little longer than they anticipated, but they did not let it affect the quality of the job. They were kind enough to provide several pictures documenting the damaged decking and the areas of decking being repaired. The crew was very diligent and friendly. I had to contact Jason a few times with questions and he was very accessible. We feel that Big Sky was very focused on customer service and customer satisfaction. I feel quite confident that if I have any concerns or problems with the roof that they installed they will be certain to address them quickly and correctly. Our overall experience with Big Sky has been a positive one. We would certainly recommend them to others and plan to consult their services in other areas as needed as we upgrade and update our home.

Jason Casteel, who's well known to readers of other reports, came out and looked over the roof and gave me an estimate in early June. Since the roof wasn't leaking and the gutters still worked, I wasn't in any great rush to get the roof done, so I told him just to schedule us whenever he could. We originally planned to do the roof on July 14th, but he needed to reschedule. He called well in advance (around July 2nd) to change the date and made sure it wasn't going to cause me a problem. The crew came out on the 19th or 20th as scheduled and did the job in one day. We did hit a few snags on the job. For example, the roofers removed and replaced my satellite dish themselves but they didn't get it right and I lost my TV service. I called Jason and he asked me to call my satellite provider to schedule a service appointment to fix it and they would deduct the amount of the service call from my bill with them. The satellite provider sent out a subcontractor who not only didn't fix the dish but, as Jason put it, appeared to have done the Mashed Potato on the shingles. Big Sky replaced about a dozen of them and said they would take it up with the contractor. Very little inconvenience to me, although I did have to arrange a second service call with the actual provider's technician to get things working properly. Another issue we had was that Big Sky's subcontractors for electrical work and guttering were a little slow about showing up and returning phone calls. Again I wasn't in any kind of a rush, so none of this was a real problem for me. If someone were in a hurry, I'm sure they could get things done faster. What amused me about it was that a voice mail left for Jason about a contractor not showing up resulted in a phone call about five minutes later from the contractor. In addition, I noticed that the roofers had left more nails on the ground than I had seen the last time I had the roof replaced. Jason seemed mortified and had someone out inside of two hours with a magnet. No more nails. Along with Jason, Raquel Casteel at the Big Sky office was great to work with. Anything I needed from her, like paperwork for my insurance company or another copy of an invoice, was provided right away. She was even very polite when my wife and I each thought the other had sent them a check and they didn't get paid for a couple of weeks. All in all, I'd have to say that working with Big Sky might not be a totally problem-free experience but their attitude is that they're not satisfied until their customers are. A lot of companies say that but I got the impression that they mean it 100%. When I told Jason that I had read about his company on Angie's List, he said that that's where he makes his living. I have to think that being able to succeed largely on the basis of satisfied customers is about as strong an indication of quality work and excellent customer service than anything I could say in my review.
Description of Work: Big Sky removed and replaced one layer of asphalt shingles and replaced two turtle vents and a power vent. Subcontractors wired the power vent and replaced all the house's gutters.

We had poor communication on their part. They got the work done quickly but the job itself was very stressful. There was only one person within their entire group that spoke "broken English." One of their workers threw up outside of my office window for about 15 minutes and to me, that's just unprofessional. They cleaned up fairly well but I ended up with a flat tire three different times due to left over nails in our driveway.
Description of Work: They replaced my roof.

My roof was totaled by hail so it was necessary to find a roofer I could trust. I asked friends & neighbors for recommendations and then I turned to Angies's List for further information. Big Sky Roofing had many positive reviews and I had seen them working in my neighborhood so I called them to ask for a bid. They sent Jason to inspect my roof and he was able to give me a bid before he left. I was very impressed with his professionalism and willingness to answer all my questions and explain to me how the entire process would work. I did get a couple of other bids which reinforced my decision to hire Big Sky for the job. The job was scheduled promptly and was completed in about 2.5 days including clean-up. I was very impressed with the job foreman, Andy, and am very pleased with my beautiful roof. Jason returned to do a final inspection to make sure everything on the roof was perfect and that I was happy with the job. Jason was wonderful to work with and I would definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: Big Sky removed one layer of existing shingles and installed new laminated shingles and also replaced wind turbines.

After using Angie's List to determined companies to give us estimates (had four estimates done) we decided on Big Sky. Jason came to the house at the appointed time and did an estimate. He came back another time to discuss the estimate, answer questions and sign the contracts. He was very polite and knowledgeable. He demonstrated real caring and interest in our particular situation. All aspects of the roofing job were done on schedule. The crew that did the roofing was on time, efficient and got the job done in one day. They did an excellent job cleaning up after them. Jason returned to the house to do a final inspection. The workman who did the guttering were very helpful coming and taking down the gutters so that the painter we hired could paint that area and then returned to hang the gutters. They discussed options with me regarding ways to get better drainage and made some very good changes in the guttering plan. I also believe that the price was very good and I was satisfied with all work.
Description of Work: Did complete re-roofing of the house. Removed all shingles, put down felt, shingles, wind turbines and replaced damaged sky lights. The also subcontracted to have gutters removed and replaced.

I originally planned to use a different local company for my new roof. The other company was recommended to me and had a great looking web site. However, they would not give me a firm price for the work. They kept asking what my insurance paid me and said they would work with my insurance and take what they paid. I then called Big Sky and Jason came to do the estimate. He impressed me right away when he showed me how they calculate the cost and presented me with a firm price for the roof and gutters before he left. There was no high pressure sales tactics. I had checked Big Sky out on Angie's List, felt good about them and did not get estimates from other companies. I was very happy with the work they did. I had an electrical problem while they were putting the new roof on (wires knocked loose or something like that). An electrician was sent out within an hour to look at and fix the problem. I had two small concerns after the roof was installed. When Jason came to check the roof after the work was completed, he noticed right away the same two items and sent someone right out to correct them. I contracted through Big Sky for the guttering. They contracted with another local company to do the gutters and downspouts. I am please with that work also. Big Sky is very customer service oriented. They want to make the customer happy. The ladies in the office called me twice to make sure all my work was completed and that I was happy with everything. I was very impressed.

It went extremely well. Jason Casteel was very good to work with. He willingly accepted my phone calls on a number of small details and happily ensured our satisfaction. The cleanup was excellent. I think I only found three nails following their departure, far better than has been my experience with other roofers. Well after the job, when I had some concerns about guttering, Jason ensured that it was all fixed according to my request. I would definitely hire Big Sky again.
Description of Work: Severe hail had resulted in our insurance company "totalling" our roof. Big Sky replaced all shingles and felt, as well as some sheathing and drip edges. Following the job, they cleaned up the yard.
