Alex and his crew arrived on time, got right to work and were very professional. The work was scheduled to take two days, when it actually took them three days, however this was not a problem for me. I just wanted a good job done and if it took a little long that was fine with me.

Alex and his crew arrived promptly on the appointed day and got right to work; were very professional and obviously knew exactly what they were doing. They completed most of the tear out on the first day. They returned early the next morning and completed the tear out and built the forms for the new concrete. The concrete truck arrived quickly and they poured both slabs and had them finished and the forms off before leaving for the day. They cleaned up after themselves and left the job site looking neat and tidy. They also replaced the fence that had been removed. We cannot say enough good things about Alex and his crew. They did an outstanding job and we are pleased as punch. We will most definitely recommend Alex to anyone we know needing concrete work. Hooray Alex! PS thanks to Angie's list for helping us find Alex.

UPDATE: After speaking with my husband, Alex offered to let us in on his newest (even better deal) and in addition discount the project even further based on the fact that my father wanted to do some of the demolition beforehand. Truly impressed with his professionalism at this point and beyond ecstatic that we were able to reach an amicable solution. We could not be happier and are anxiously awaiting October when the work begins!
When I first emailed Alex from Angie's List he responded very quickly, even though he was on vacation. We then got back in touch a few weeks later and scheduled an estimate. He cancelled the first time at the last minute because a job went over. I don't think it would have been such a big deal to me, except we weren't living at the property at that time and so I drove all the way out there for no reason. The next day though he was punctual and professional. he quickly provided a fair quote for the work to be done and my husband and I told him we would be in contact shortly after we decided. After talking it over we decided we liked Alex and would like to do business with him and his quote seemed fair. My husband got there before me and forgot to mention we were considering him because of the Angie's List deal, so when I emailed him later saying we bought one and we were ready to start work he let me know that since we bought it after the estimate we couldn't use it and should ask for a refund. I guess it was a misunderstanding on my part, but I was really disappointed. We're back to the drawing board and looking into having other contractors do the work.

Tired of walking across the grass to the access the backyard from the outside, especially after rain or heavy dew, Alex ran a sidewalk from the driveway down the side of the house through the back gate ending at the end of back patio. Nothing would grow at the end of the patio and gate area so it was an area of dirt or mud when it rained. The sidewalk looks great and he listened to what I wanted. Part of the sidewalk runs all the way up to the house and the rest has left a nice size bed for a shade garden. I love it!
He also extended the back patio from the existing patio about 7 feet. It looks great as well. I am very pleased with the work, responsiveness and just the overall experience of working with Alex.

Alex responded to my call, came out next day to give an estimate and scheduled a date to do the work. A few days before the scheduled date, he called asking if they could come 3 days earlier. (I had asked if he could do the work any sooner and it turned out that he could.) The workers arrived right on time, cut the concrete and fitted the drain and grate into place, washed the patio, and came back the next day to paint it. Later that day a worker removed the debris and Alex returned that evening to inspect the work and to see if I was happy with the project. All this was done very professionally and promptly.

Concrete Pouring and Repair, Concrete Driveways + 1 more
They removed and replaced the concrete driveway including the concrete approach. Also removed and replaced the back yard concrete patio. They busted out the old cracked concrete, removed the debris and cleaned up the construction site. They hauled in and leveled a sand base for the new foundation, obtained a permit and an on site inspection from the city before pouring the new driveway and patio. All concrete was 3500 PSI, 4 inches high, resting the sand base, reinforced by fiber-mesh mixed in the concret. Control joints were placed every 10 -12 feet for both the driveway and patio with additional control joints for the approach portion of the driveway.

I telephone Alex's Construction and Alex returned my phone call within 30 minutes. Alex came out and gave me an estimate later that day. Alex's estimate came in about the same and lower than our other estimates. We were impressed because he went to the city to talk to them regarding our driveway and informed us that codes had changed and we would have to change somethings with our driveway which added additional cost, but he informed us of this before he started the job. Alex arranged all the permits and inspections. He arrived on time and let us know when we needed to be there. They finished as promised and on time. The porch turned out better than we anticipated.

Alex and his crew showed up on the agreed upon date, early in the morning. The first day they removed all the old concrete and an old wood deck. The second day they framed up the area for the new concrete. After talking to Alex about former drainage problems we also decided it would be best to install a french drain system around the pool for another $800.00. (Heavy rains would flood the pool with grass and mud.) The next day they poured and stamped half of the concrete. (We had ove 1100 Square feet of concrete poured.) The fourth day we had the rest of the concrete poured and stamped. The 5th day Alex's crew cleaned up the yard of all debris. Everything was finished except for sealing the concrete. Weather prevented them from sealing the concrete on Saturday, and Alex said the would come back the following week and seal the concrete. Saturday evening Alex called and said that they would come that Sunday (Easter), and seal the concrete so I would not have to miss any work the following week. Alex's crew showed up early, (7:15) and began sealing the concrete. We left for Easter activities, but when we returned everything was completed. Alex cam by Tuesday evening for final payment, and I thanked him for such a great job.

Decorative Concrete Service, Deck and Porch Service
Alex is a very nice guy, but the work quality was very poor. The more he tried to fix, the worse the job looked. They poured in the heat of the afternoon rather than the morning and the concrete dried out as they poured. On the retaining wall they used the wrong form thickness and the wall set up wavy as the forms swelled from the weight of the concrete. We had big problems with the stamping at the time of installation, as his crews left shoe prints all over the stain in the deck. Though he worked to stain over, it left blotches that didnt match the color he originally stained with. The saw cut marks were done with a hand held cut saw with no guide and are crooked. His solution was to make the cuts wider which still look aweful with no solution. We had to have the deck re stained and sealed by another contractor at our expense within weeks of installation. The concrete has sinced spider cracked everywhere and will need totally repoured. He has not provided me with his insurance and it looks like he does not have any. An $18,000 job that looks like i did myself..

"As you can imagine, we are very surprised to see a review, particularly such a negative review, FIVE months after the project was completed. Although there were minor problems with the concrete as a result of the excessive heat wave we experienced in the summer, the homeowner at no point contacted us to remedy the situation or any perceived mistakes on our part. We cannot be held responsible when we are unaware of the problem. Additionally, we did a thorough walk-through before I was paid. If the work was unsatisfactory, we presumable wouldn't have been paid in full."

Showed up at appointed time. Removed and hauled off old driveway the first day. The second day they poured the concrete and cleaned up and the following morning they remove the boards and final cleanup. They worked hard and did a great job. I am very pleased with job.

Alex and his crew were very friendly and punctual. However, part of the finished driveway had 5, noticeable faults. The last ft from the street up to ft up the driveway had visible faults that were irreparable. Alex admitted that the faults were caused by his crew cutting into the cement while making the final power hose spray which was supposed to remove part of the concrete in order to expose the aggregate stones in the concrete. By the time I discovered the flaws, it was too late.
Another visible fault was in the material put in the expansion joint which ran across the entire driveway. Alex tried to correct but it was unsatisfactory. His crew apparently hammered, or somehow forced the material into the expansion joint to the extent that the material was visibly smashed down in several places. Finally the crew did a poor job on cleaning up the surrounding area,
I found out that they were supposed to put a sealer all over the driveway and they missed a large section of it. I also found where a part of my gate was bent up where they must have ran a piece of equipment into it.

"Dear Homeowner, We are very sorry that you were unhappy with your new exposed aggregate driveway. We take pride in our work, and tried to do the best possible job for you and your family. Unfortunately, this kind of aggregate is difficult to work with and can be very finicky depending on a number of factors-weather, et.. What works perfectly at one homeowners residence doesn't do as well at the next project. Admittedly, there were a few very small minor flaws which were repaired, but all in all, it came out beautifully. I can assure you that the sealer was put on the entire surface of the driveway. It''ll be imposible to miss a large section. As to the claim of my crew not cleaning up after the project, we are only supposed to take care of the mess that we created, which we did. All trash and refuse was promptly removed upon completion. I would have been more than happy to have one of my men come back to powerwash the entire completed driveway and surrounding area, if you had contacted me. Thanks! Alexander Gutierrez"

Very happy with this company. I called yesterday while shopping around to have a 20'x5"x4" section of concrete removed. He gave me the best quote by far (200 compared to 500+ for other Angie's list concrete repair companies) and he threw in a 12"x12" cut as well. They came the day they said the would, cleaned up the concrete, did a nice job - I'd recommend these guys with no hesitation at all. No wonder they are an Angie's List Award winner!
