He is an excellent worker. He paid attention to detail and took his time--it wasn't like he was just here to make a dollar. He was very concerned with making the customer happy. He was on time and mannerism was superb.

It was fine. The price I paid was $250 for the whole square that he replaced. I never met the guy and just talked to him over the phone and sent a check in the mail. There was no personal meeting because I was busy moving, but he did a good job. The house was vacant and I did let him know that the house was vacant and told him that the back patio had a faucet where he could get wanter to mix the concrete and to get it dug up. He did make a comment to me that it was difficult for him because he had to go back to wherever to get the water to mix the concrete, so I guess that he forgot that there was water on the back patio.

My experience with Richard were frustrating and comical at times. Everything I'm going to say here is the truth and by no means an exaggeration and is based upon my single experience with Mr. Richard Nowicki in June of 2007. I've waited nearly three years to write this review. Pressed to meet city code, I found Mr. Nowicki's services after using my cousin's Angie's List account back in 2007. At the time he had about 3-4 reviews all which were very positive in nature. I did notice however that he apparently hadn't done much concrete pouring so I called him out for an estimate. If my memory holds true, I never actually saw Mr. Nowicki. He stopped by when I wasn't home and dropped off a quote in the mailbox. I recall asking him if he was okay with the amount of work that I needed done and he assured me that he could complete it in a short amount of time. After comparing his quote to about four other seemingly more professional quotes, I ended up going with Richard's company since he was the lowest bidder (being a newer homeowner I hadn't learned my lesson yet) by about $300.00. Richard then sent me a proposal to 1.) Remove concrete driveway pad 2.) Remove apron and replace with new concrete and widen apron 3.) Remove concrete from sidewalk by front steps 4.) Seal concrete He asked that I put down $750.00 of $1500.00 before the project started, but I intelligently refused. Instead a week or two went by as he delayed the work due to "his father's death," which if true, could understandably affect one's ability to properly run a business and cause much grief on his end. Finally committing to an approximate start date, I asked him to set a firm date which he then gave me. I explained to him that I wanted to be home when his crew was on site. Anticipating Richard's arrival I took the day off work, but he never showed. I called him late in the day and asked if he was still coming. Richard stated that he would be there in "the next few days." I believe he then showed 2-3 days later midway through the week. Excited about finally starting the project, I was hopeful that things would start to go a bit smoother.. After his crew removed the concrete they made a few piles of concrete debris on the tree lawn/sidewalk. When we talked that evening I specifically asked Richard if his crew would be back to clean up the debris the next day. He stated that he "wouldn't have a crew there until two days from now." Coming home from work with my wife the following afternoon my mouth dropped when I saw two police cars in front of my house with 5 men sitting on the curb looking dismayed. Apparently my neighbor called the police after observing a rusted out Blazer sitting in front of our house for two hours that morning. When I pulled up I asked the officer what was going on, and he replied that "these men claim to be working on your house." I told him that was impossible since work wasn't supposed to be done until the following day. Just then a dump truck came down the street and pulled up next to the driveway... .. you can fill in the rest. Anyway, worked resumed and they came the next day to pour the concrete which my contractor of an uncle could have poured better. Coming home to homely-looking driveway, I noticed the lads had poured their concrete rinsate on a fresh landscaping bed I had just put in the day before - brains anyone??????? If you're still reading this your a champ.... I noticed that Richard applied concrete sealant the day of completion. I'm not a concrete-guru, but isn't the rule of thumb, "wait 24-hours before applying waterproofing product" - I believe the concrete needs to "breath" first.. but hey, what do I know, I'm just a dumb homeowner. After the artwork was complete, Richard then stated that he needed the payment the following day because "you know how those people are" a reference to his underling workers... at least this made me laugh. All in all it made for a very trying experience. The communication was poor and inaccurate and the quality subpar. Maybe Richard's speciality is minor concrete work like tuckpointing, but all I know is that I'll never find out if that's the case.. Oh and did I mention that we had pitting in the driveway by the following spring? - lots of pitting... Enjoy, ~Andy

Richard came out to give a quote the next day after my call. Looked over the steps and showed me photos of similar projects he'd done. Left the quote the following day, and I called to accept it. He told me it would be 2-3 weeks before he could start. Ten days later he called to say he'd be starting the work. When he moved the top step, he found that the steps were missing the block wall that should be inside the brick facing, so he quoted an add-on to cover building that support wall inside, and I accepted that additional cost. Over the next two days, they completed the masonry and let it set up over the weekend before power washing the steps (and an additional 30 feet or so of sidewalks.) I also asked him to include some tuck-pointing around the foundation on the front of the house which was done, including grinding out loose mortar. And while he was here, I asked him to mortar around the electrical entry conduit which had been replaced several years ago. The steps look great, are much more solid than they've ever been, and we're very happy with the work.

Excellent experience. Of the several quotes I received from Angie's List professionals, Mr. Nowicki was the only one who bothered to put his quote in writing. Several months passed from the time I received his quote until I decided to do the work but he was immediately ready to start, kept to his timeframe and was extremely professional. Job well done!

I was horrified to discover there was a rat and a fair number of mice making their homes in my basement! These rodents were able to travel all through the basement due to damaged sections in the clay block walls (previous home owners had installed forced air, and the duct work had to be passed through existing walls.) In addition, the damaged sections were unsightly. I had used Rich before for a small concrete job and was very pleased with his work, so I called him for this. He returned my call within a day and was ready to schedule me for the work that very week. However, a heavy snow storm and frigid temps forced him to put off the job till the next week. He kept me informed every step of the way. Rich and his son, Jason, showed up as promised and completed the work in a very timely fashion. They mixed the mortar in the garage and carted it down to the basement in pails. They put down plastic to protect items/appliances, and even managed to work around several shelving units I was too lazy to move. Jason did a great job cleaning up afterwards, even washing the floor between the entry from the garage and the basement door. The work looks great! And since trapping the offending rat and several mice, I have not seen any further evidence of any other critters! Rich is a pleasure to work with; he is very accomodating, professional, and knowledgeable.

My experience with him was excellent because the estimate was very reasonable and he was able to identify accurately when he would perform the work. He kept his promises with regards to his appearance and regards to the work. He also explained each step of the way what he was going to do and why and obtained my approval before he did it and he accommodated my desires for some aspects of the work that were perhaps not his preference but were solidly mine. And of course it looks great, he did a very fine job.

He is flexible in scheduling because the job has changed. He calls to let me know that he is coming and he is very friendly. Later in the season he is due to come back and raise the earth around my garage due to the crumbling foundation.

Richard came out and pulled weeds, he did really good yard work and charged me half of what landscapers would charge; he also came and built closet and that was great work as well, he also moved bricks that were buried in my yard. He helped my move furniture as well. He is always flexible, reasonable, and he is more than what you would expect. Very clean and professional.

Mr. Nowicki and an assistant completed the work as promised and adhered to the estimate. Came promptly to give written estimate and also for each day of work. Completely explained each step and approximate length of time job would take. Kept area clear and free if debris when done with each day's work and cleaned up thoroughly at end. Very courteous. Job looks good. Excellent price and added brick pointing as a bonus.

Overall, the experience was positive. Mr. Nowicki certainly seemed to know his trade and was willing to work with the electrician who was installing the wiring to the spa. My only complaint, and it is a small one, is that he was not quite as responsive as I would have preferred to my initial phone call.

We met with Richard Nowicki to have him repair the planter, but he recommended removing it instead, because it would be expensive to repair and would probably soon fall apart again. He was prompt, friendly, and careful. He even tuck pointed several areas on our brick home without charging us.
