About us

Carmen's opened it's first vacuum and janitorial shop in 1970, and over the years has expanded to include 3 additional stores as well as an Internet sales department. Offering more than just vacuums, our retail stores can provide you with parts, belts, bags and accessories for your machine, and our store managers can answer all your questions in the janitorial field. In addition to sales, our stores also provide SERVICE on almost all makes and models of vacuums and other janitorial machines including buffers, burnishers, steam cleaners , carpet extractors and even central vacuum equipment. All of our stores offer free test runs of all floor models, and some even have large equipment, as mentioned above, for display and demonstration. Took my vacuum for a service and after long delays, received my vacuum back scratched. They denied they damaged the vacuum so we contacted Jason, the manager of Carmen's. He said they would take care of it and to go to the High St location. Upon taking it there, they were reluctant to repair it but said they could once they got the part. After weeks of not hearing, I called and they didn't return my call. I called again and they said they were waiting for parts. After another 10 days of not hearing, I contacted the vacuum manufacturer directly and they confirmed no parts were ordered. I just worked directly with the manufacturer and another vacuum repair shop to get it done in a week. Beware of working with Carmen's!

The repair/cleaning was very good; the unpleasant sound that caused me to bring in the vacuum cleaner was eliminated and it seems to be working well. The service was horrible: I took the vacuum in for repair at the end of March and told the clerk that since we would be out of town the whole month of April I would pick it up the first week of May. When I went to the Sawmill Road location to pick it up it wasn't ready; a different clerk said it needed a HEPA filter. Replaced neck and brushes on an older Simplicity canister vacuum. Also replaced the wand. I felt that the price paid was reasonable for the work that was completed given that the vacuum had originally cost over $1000 and saved me the purchase of another vacuum. They advised me before doing the repairs that the canister motor was showing signs of age so that I could make a more informed decision on whether to repair the beater head or replace the vacuum. Since having the vacuum repaired, the beater works better than it has worked in years.

When I got the vacuum home I discovered there was 3/4 of a dirty bag in it. They really didn't seem to know what they were doing. There was no demonstration or booklet. The manager seemed very un-interested in what was going on.

Carmen's did not have the replacement hose required for my vacuum, which is okay, so I ordered it over the phone. After paying for the hose and waiting two weeks the hose did not fit as well as it should have on my vacuum. I tried to return the hose but was told Carmen's does not accept returns and will only give store credit. I did not know this policy until the salesman pointed to a small sign behind the counter. I then mentioned to him that I ordered the part over the phone and how was I supposed to know the policy over the phone. I was never informed of the policy when ordering. He then took my name and number and said he would follow up with the company to see if they would make an exception since I ordered the item over the phone. It has been a week and no call or follow-up from Carmen's. Very disappointed! I like to support local stores but when they don't accept returns, even when items don't fit properly, don't communicate store policies well and say they will follow-up with you and do not, it makes Amazon look like the better choice.

UPDATE: It's been three weeks and still no response from Carmen's. Guess they don't care about their customers opinions.

My Dyson sucked at sucking. I took it to Carmen's. They could not be 100% sure what the problem was by just looking at it. They told me of 2 possible repairs and asked if I still wanted to leave it. I left it. A few days later I got a call from them telling me the cost. I okayed the repair. The repair was completed less than a week later and my Dyson is back home. And you know what? It really SUCKS!

I brought in two vacuum cleaners to be fixed; both worked but neither worked well. I needed expert advice on what repairs were needed.The salesperson was not friendly neither on the phone nor in person, but I have zero complaints about the job performed. She identified that one vacuum needed a new belt, which could be replaced for about $12. She said the other vacuum most likely needed a new motor and was not worth repairing.
She repaired the belt in just a few minutes and the cost was minimal. The vacuum cleaner now works great, though I threw the other one away. Though I would have appreciated friendlier service, I am more than happy with the results and would use Carmen's again if needed.

I took the vacuum cleaner to a very highly rated (by Angie's List) sales-service store. They declined to inspect the unit because of it's age and likely lack of parts availability. Carmen's offered to check the unit and repair it if possible for $80-100. They called to confirm the work and revise the estimate downward. After the repair, Carmen's said the unit was in good condition except for the worn carbon brushes. They cleaned the motor and installed new brushes which they had in stock. The cost was somewhat less than the estimate. The unit now runs fine.

The salesmen are very knowledgeable about their products, and they answered all my questions. I liked the fact that I could "test drive" a vacuum so I could tell how loud it is and how easy it is to maneuver. I felt I was getting expert advice when I shopped there. I would definitely consider buying another vacuum from this store.

They did the annual tune-up and cleaned out the filter. When I got home and tried to vacuum again, it shut off after about 3-4 minutes. Carmen's sent my vacuum to their central place for repair and gave me a temporary replacement. They didn't find anything wrong with it, and thought the inside housing might be too small for proper air flow. I wasn't charged for the second repair attempt. When I returned the replacement and brought mine home again, it did the same thing. Carmen's was willing to sell me another vacuum, but I just wanted mine repaired. My vacuum was only 4 years old. I appreciated their willingness to find the problem and give me a temporary replacement.

I was very pleased at the time the salesman spent with me discussing different vacuum cleaners, their options, and the Consumer Reports ratings I had brought with me. I even got to try the vacuum before I bought it. The price was also the best I found for the model I purchased.

Overall, this company is very competitive on their pricing and will go beyond the call of duty to earn your business. They let me use a vacuum to make certain that it would work for me prior to purchase and was extremely knowledgeable about a variety of vacuums. They did not seem like they were out to get me. They were an honest company.

My 15 year old vacuum which I had bought from the S. Hamilton store and had never had serviced was not working as well as it had been. I took it to the store in Westerville where I left it for a week and they tuned it up and now it works like new! Over the years, I have had questions about different vacuums they sell and I have always felt like I was dealing with very honest and knowledgeable salespeople.

CARMEN'S VACUUM PERIODICALLY HAS COUPONS FOR TUNE-UPS IN THE LOCAL COUPON PACKET THAT IS DELIVERED WEEKLY. I WAS GREETED IN A VERY PLEASANT WAY AND WAS TOLD UP FRONT IT WOULD PROBABLY TAKE 7-10 DAYS BEFORE IT WAS READY. I WAS TOLD TO CALL IN A WEEK TO CHECK ON THE PROGRESS OF MY VACUUM, BUT MY VACUUM WAS READY IN LESS THAN A WEEK. CARMEN'S VACUUM ALSO SELLS VACUUMS, BAGS, ETC AND I BUY MY BAGS THERE. THE BAGS ARE PRICED FAIRLY. I NOTICED ON THEIR ADVERTISING THAT THEY HAVE 4 LOCATIONS, BUT I HAVE ONLY BEEN TO 2 OF THEM. I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THEIR WORK ON MY VACUUM CLEANER.

THEY PUT THE FEE TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A NEW VACUUM. I THEN WENT TO CONSUMER REPORTS AND FOUND A VACUUM THAT I WANTED. PRICED IT AT SEVERAL STORES, AND CARMEN'S PRICE WAS THE BEST PRICE. THEY HAVE A VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF.
