I am a new customer of West Jefferson Plumbing and Heating, and have used their services for gas furnace/AC installation and for plumbing repairs (see separate review under plumbing category), from April 9 to May 8 of this year. Over a month’s time, each person I’ve communicated with or had in my home for estimate, install or repair work has made me feel comfortable, knowing they have the expertise and that essential home maintenance issues are handled by the right people.
In March I began a brief search for a heating and A/C company to replace my rusted Aqua-Therm system. I did some prior reading on the newer higher efficiency furnaces and I was also interested in an air cleaner for allergies. By searching websites of 3 major brands, I located West Jefferson Plumbing and Heating, a Lennox premier dealer. The WJPH website contains a blog with helpful information (astonished that it answered the mystery about sewer gas from an unused, dry sink trap!) On 3/21/12, I contacted the company by email to request an estimate, and set an appointment for April 9 with Ivan Mast. He looked at my old 19 yr old furnace and how much space I had for new installation. He explained the AEP rebates with the energy assessment and the effectiveness of box media air filtration. At the end of the day, I received by email an estimate with 2 options, which I followed up with a couple questions, and he emailed back promptly with answers. I had one other estimate from another company for a different brand, a higher cost system which I felt was oversold (60,000 BTUs plus electronic air cleaner for my small condo), compared to 45,000 BTUs and a more efficient box media air filter. I chose to go with West Jefferson in a 2-stage Lennox system, 96% efficiency, 13-15 SEER rated AC and the higher rated box media air filter.
Installation was done on April 26 (it was my choice to schedule later, it could have been done sooner if I chose). The 2 technicians, Josh and Ryan, did excellent work, connecting the gas line and constructing a streamlined furnace with easy access to the box media filter, weaving PVC pipe through the floor joists and creating an exterior vent through wood trim. They were great guys who worked really hard. They replaced a copper pipe that had several seams from the water heater install another company did a few years ago. Overall the installation took almost a full day. This was done with no debris left afterwards. With the new system operating, I was amazed at how much air flowed through the floor vents. To top it off, the company registered my Lennox warranty for me so that I didn’t have to go on-line and enter serial numbers. The energy assessment was performed on May 4 by Ivan Mast, during which the attic insulation was checked, the Energy Star HVAC system and newer appliances verified, which will result in a $400 AEP rebate in addition to the Lennox manufacturer $150 rebate. This company’s high praise and reputation is well deserved and I definitely recommend them.
