Luke's Sewing Centers

No prices are displayed on machines in the store, and seem to be set based on what they think the customer can/will pay. Only certain members of the staff are allowed to discuss prices with customers. Further, customers are OPENLY discouraged from discussing what they paid for their machine(s) with other customers. I purchased a used machine ($1000) then later went to upgrade to a better (but still used) machine. I was charged an additional $2000, and told I was being given back the original $1000 I paid for the first machine. I was told this was a "fantastic deal." Two days later, I stumbled across the exact same model machine for only $1100. Further, after I got the machine home, I discovered that a major part was missing. When I called to ask about it, I was treated as though I was lying. Or worse, stupid enough to miss it. It was a LARGE part. I honestly believe the only reason I got a good price on another machine I purchased there was because I had already found a price online. All customers who purchase a machine from Luke's are automatically enrolled in their "VIP Club" and invited to monthly events, which are merely big sales pitches for their overpriced merchandise. I have also witnessed unprofessional behavior from one particular staff member on numerous occasions. Genevieve is rude, bullying, pushy and condescending. She is publicly demeaning to other staff members. I have overheard her loudly complaining on the phone about her store duties while customers were in the store. This is not to say that the store is ALL bad. Joann, Laquitta and Tom are helpful, knowledgeable and kind. There are free classes offered after you purchase a machine. Thus, 1 star.
