The rep on the first visit inspected the area of concern, and called it 'curb creep' from the shocks of parking cars on a concrete pad. This was indeed the area where the blocks had begun to come in. He explained what they would do in detail, and gave us an estimate. On the second visit the foreman inspected the area using the drawings and notes from the first rep, and answered any new questions we had. When the work team showed up, because of scheduling issues a different foreman was present, but everything went smoothly and professionally. I had the opportunity to closely inspect the work before signing off. Cleanup by the crew was excellent.
Description of Work: Installed four power braces and sealed cracks in basement. Top rows of blocks had, in one area (front of garage) tilted in about 2" and a related side wall had developed 1/4 to 1/2" cracks.

They took great care of my property. Took out the last few moldy things we had down there that we couldn't get out. They demo'ed and de-molded the first day. They wore full biohazard suits which was funny because we unloaded the entire basement without any protection. The next day they cut into the concrete around the floor and installed the new drainage system. Then they installed the I bars to bolster the walls. The sump pump installed required an upgrade to my electric box for an additional cost. They even replaced the hoses on my washer and sink because the old ones broke when they removed it. Everything cleaned up one day early. Neighbors who watched the whole thing was impressed on how hard they worked. Negatives: Elecric box upgrade could have been anticipated by the estimator. The first night the air conditioner was turned off and I didn't know how to cause there was a hidden switch. It was a hot August night. After their electrician did the upgrade of the box, there were sparks coming out of the box. It was fixed.
Description of Work: remove moldy drywall and ceiling, gut entire basement then spray everything with mold killer and waterproof. New sump pump and drainage system. Install I bars to support leaning walls about 4 feet all around three walls of the basement.

This company was amazing from start to finish. They know what their doing and what's best to get it done. We actually thought we may need to have more work done but they assured us it was not necessary. The price was high but it was worth it.

For some time, when it rains, I've had a slight moisture build up on the cinder block in one corner of my basement. There is no standing water not wall damage... just dampness and some silt buildup. So I called The Basement Doctor and Roger's Basement Waterproofing for estimates. As you might expect, The Basement Doctor is a professional, polished, well organized business. Everything from their appointment system, high quality reading materials and their representatives is thought out and executed with professionalism. Unfortunately I can't recommend their work because they didn't accurately identify my issue, thus the solution offered was a waste of money. Their solution was to seal the unfinished part of my basement wall (three walls in a roughly 6 x 15 area) with a high quality, heavy duty sealant for $1,300. While I'm not a basement waterproofing professional, I do believe that when moisture is present in a basement, you first have to address where that moisture is coming from and stop it. Without that step, no amount of wall sealant is going to going to fix the problem... the water has to go somewhere and if it can't get through one part of the wall... it's going to collect and probably find an area where it can get in. I ended up hiring Rogers who addressed the problem by replacing my exterior rain water run off lines and downspout connections. So far, no more moisture in the basement.
Description of Work: Received a $1,300 estimate to address basement dampness.

The staff that works for this company is very professional and very efficient. It took the crew four days to complete the major work to repair our basement. I would recommend this company to anyone who has an older home that needs basement repair or sunken concrete. We are happy with a job well done!
Description of Work: We had ten steel power braces installed to hold the bowing wall in the basement, in our living area and garage area. We had the water gutter system installed, a new sump pump installed along with battery backup, the front concrete porch lifted with two columns replaced and a drain pipe under our front bay window.

I would highly recommend The Basement Doctor!
Description of Work: We had two cracks in our poured basement wall (home 7 yrs. old) where water was seeping in and pooling on the floor. The Doctor ground the cracks wide enough to inject a wicking material which attracts water and channeled it into the drain under the foundation. It was a great experience from our initial sales call, through the actual installation. The installer was phenomenal in terms of respecting our home and making every effort to leave it as nice as he found it. So far there is no sign of water seepage, but there is a 25 year guarantee on the work which is transferable should we sell

Good front-end analysis of job, including reading engineering report / checking with engineer. Time to schedule had to be reset, and JD did, requiring use of alternate concrete type to set more quickly due to deadline for re-use of porch (a material not first mentioned, but available on our demand and at their cost). Initially JD planned to proceed with no permit -- "it's not needed here" -- but locals heard from JD's utility checker a job was planned, and they asked for permit -- a step I highly valued -- and project delayed while paper was completed, making me less than happy with JD but overall really smart move for soundness. Team who did the work fantastic: checked in ahead to verify the work to do and initial analysis of approach, brought really skilled guys to task, did work "by hand" to move porch slab (8 piers involved) to raise -- it worked. Worth the amount of money to get the job done well.
Description of Work: Our porch slab floor, with finished 3-season room above, was sinking. We reviewed several approaches and chose JD drilling holes into floor & installing helical screws to stabilize / maybe raise floor (no promises on raise, but experience bore out the approach worked, making our doors / windows operate where before they'd tightened in place). Prior, had engineer do analysis finding no foundation under slab, not uncommon in '50's-era houses, so had concern about floor cracking / buckling from alternate approaches, wanted approach likely most effective, so this chosen from three alternate approaches / contractors.

They were good. They came out and said that there was nothing to be done. That was why I appreciated their specific estimate. Basically, they told me that nothing needed to be done. They were honest. They did not try to trick me into getting anything done that was not necessary. They did not have to do any work. They came in on time. I will certainly ask for quotes from them in the future.

I called and got 3 different companies to come out and give me an estimate, and the prices that I got from all 3 providers were close. The decision to choose J & D Basement Systems was based on the attitude of the person that came out and the way they were going to do things. They worked harder than one can imagine - they did a wonderful job, and I have not had one drop of water. They were here 3 full days, and I believe they finished up on the fourth because they also put drains in the yard outside because the sump pump outlet had to drain. They had a whole crew working which included a foreman and at least 3 other guys. There is a fee for the work on the sump pump, of course, but they still change the battery in it and make sure that if you need it, it is there. It is something like a smoke alarm - you want to make sure it works but you are hoping it doesn?t. I paid $9132, and I think there was a little down payment that was included in the amount. Because of the water damage problem, it even added more into what we had originally thought it would cost. They have done several different kinds of things, and I?ve been very satisfied with their work. They clean up very well. Although they throw out little extras, they are not pushy. They are reasonable. I have had not one problem with the quality of their work. They are here when they say they are going to be here and take care of business. I have recommended them to a lot of people. I would rate them highly and would use them in the future, if necessary.
Description of Work: I have a full basement, and I used J & D Basement Systems to waterproof my entire basement. They carried every scrap of concrete out of there in buckets, and all the cement that they had to replace that with was carried down in buckets. Every year, they come back and check the sump pump. There are 3 places around the entire basement where they pump water to check and make sure that the channel underneath the floor is still open and flowing. They check all that, pull the sump pump up, replace the battery and make sure the pipe to the outside is clear. Further from our basement is a room, and we discovered after everything got started that there was water damage under some of the panel and on the outside wall. So they had to remove one side and two ends of paneling in that room as well.

The work was great - but we miscommunicated. I wanted to save more money by doing the digging myself at a later point, which was totally possible. The digger, was not the guy I discussed the install with, he worked under that guy. When I got home it was all done and I had a HUGE bill compared to what I had planned to spend. I suggest people STAY THERE when having any work done, if at all possible.

We were shocked at how low the cost was for the repair and for the work they did. They were prompt, they gave us a very good price, and they had excellent cleanup. They came when they said and he even put a coating of sealant on the wall, which wasn?t included. They also gave us tips to prevent future problems and were great to work with all around. They were well mannered, polite, and it was a very good experience. They?ve also followed up with us a few times to make sure everything is holding up okay.

Am I left to conclude that either The Basement Doctor inspected the crawl space but did not know how to recognize wood rot, or created a $6000+ repair quote without personally inspecting the bandboard? Either way, The Basement Doctor did not seem willing to prove or to verify their findings. And, either way, we feel wronged. This is a very tough market to lose a buyer over such an erroneous report. Member response to service provider's response: The Basement Doctor?s response about the $6400 quote is carefully crafted and true, but misleadingly incomplete. After several others confirmed that there was no rot, no basis for the $6400 quote from The Basement Doctor, we contacted the company. The Basement Doctor had no record of its representative's quote that we received. Even the person we spoke with at The Basement Doctor thought that this was quite unusual. This made us suspicious of this representative who claimed to have inspected the crawl space and who offered to re-inspect. As a result, AFTER February 2nd, we chose to deal directly with the president of The Basement Doctor about the matter. The president conducted what he called an inquiry and passed their erroneous claim of rot off as "conflicting opinions". ON FEBRUARY 16, we made the offer directly to The Basement Doctor's president to send out a representative to confirm their claim. He, the president, did not take us up on this offer. We were left then with an erroneous claim of rot that was the primary item in their quote for $6400 - the erroneous quote that apparently lost us a buyer in a very tough market.
Description of Work: Our review describes a different type of encounter with The Basement Doctor/J&D Basement Systems. We recently were in contract with a buyer for the sale of our house. All that was left were the results of the inspection. The buyer s inspector thought that there may be an issue with moisture and mold in the crawl space under the double doors to the back deck. The buyer s realtor called in The Basement Doctor. We then received the Request for Remedies from the buyer with The Basement Doctor s quote attached. The primary requested remedy was for The Basement Doctor to Remove old rotted section of band board & Replace with new pressure treated band. (The bandboard is the string of planks below the floor between the floor joists.) Their quote was for $6400. Our Realtor called in another waterproofing contractor and another home inspector. They peeled away some insulation backing from the bandboard that they said may have looked suspicious to the untrained eye and would hide the condition of the wood. They found no rot, mold, or unacceptable moisture. We then refused to honor The Basement Doctor s quote. We were told that our contract with the buyer began to go south at that point because the buyer had concerns based upon The Basement Doctors (erroneous) damage claim of $6400. I contacted The Basement Doctor. The CEO stated he conducted an inquiry and that there were conflicting opinions about the damaged bandboard and that their quote was more comprehensive . I asked if a quote was more comprehensive when it included unneeded services. Further, I offered the CEO the opportunity to send someone out to verify what we already know -- that the bandboard has no rot. Not surprisingly, he did not take me up on the offer.

IT IS ALWAYS OUR GOAL TO PROVIDE THE BEST SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC AND OUR CLIENTS; IN THIS CASE THE MEMBER WAS NOT OUR CLIENT. OUR CLIENT WAS A PROSPECTIVE BUYER’S REAL ESTATE AGENT, WHO HAD A HOME INSPECTOR RAISE A RED FLAG ABOUT THE MOISTURE AND STABILITY OF THE WOOD SEAL PLATE AND BAND BOARD IN THE SUBJECT PROPERTIES CRAWL SPACE. ON JANUARY 30, 2009, OUR REPRESENTATIVE DID AGREE TO RETURN TO TAKE WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN THE THIRD LOOK AT THE CRAWL SPACE. They were very careful at digging. They were able to dig and when they put the soil back, the grass was still there. They were very clean. They did a good job.
Description of Work: They did our downspout from both sides. They totally rerouted the downspout from the sump pump in the basement which comes from the backyard. They went around the house and they took it down to the street on both sides of the house. They used new pipes. They buried it. I don t know how deep but deep enough not to show. I chose them because of the reviews on Angie's List. So far they've been really good to work with. One thing that reassured me immediately is that I have fairly bad allergies and I was concerned about possible mold growth, and I even pointed out the areas on the walls where there was something black and they reassured me that it was some kind of stain. I think any company that wasn't reputable would have definitely taken advantage of that. Basically, I know that everything they're doing has to be done and needs to be done. They gentleman who came out was very, very good at explaining what needed to be done and why it needs to be done. They didn't try to add extra, and I felt very comfortable that what I'm doing is necessary and nothing I'm doing is unnecessary. They even put down something to cover the carpet so they wouldn't mess up the carpets, and I've had people come in the house in a huff because I've asked them to put on shoe covers or put something down on the floor. Their responsiveness and punctuality is excellent. I would use them again and I would recommend them.

They sent one of their structural people. He took a look at the cracks. He explained the possible causes of the cracks and said there was no reason for concern. There was no cost for the visit. They were very professional and arrived on time.
