The work went smoothly although the concrete ended up being a bit thicker than estimated, meaning more material had to be hauled out and more topsoil had to be hauled in. Dan was extremely reasonable about the increased workload, only charging a modest incremental amount for the additional topsoil. He did a great job tearing out the concrete and grading the soil, and even hauled some excess topsoil to a far corner of my property, saving me from a lot of work. On top of the great responsiveness and high-quality caliber of work, Dan was also very pleasant to be around all day.
I am extremely happy with how everything was done and would not hesitate to work with Dan again.
It was to late but he could do it. It was to small and he had a minimum of $2800 but he would consider it. I had to measure the area for him to give him an idea of the size over the phone. In describing the shape, he didn't like that part of the scope either for it is not a common shape and will have corners. He would have to haul the dirt and that costs him. Excuse after excuse to where I became completely uninterested in his service. At the end he then wanted to talk more about it and how he does things better than other concrete contractors but at this point I was completely turned of and just wanted to get off the phone with him.
All of these things are why you come to potential customers home and look at the job yourself as you are the contractor. You figure out what can and can not be done and explain the good bad and the ugly then. Being so brash and negative over the phone just tells people you don't want the business.

The ironic part of this is the crew actually doing the work appeared to be very capable and professional. They were not allowed to perform the work as stated in the proposal. My conclusion is that the owner was saving labor and materials to increase the profit. This quote was not the lowest quote I received. I picked this firm based on the previous ratings on Angies List.
I have been a contractor in the past and used several concrete vendors. This is the worst experience by far of any vendor I have used.
Obviously, I would recommend one to look for another vendor!
"My crew and I do all my jobs with pride in our work'. We perform our craft with knowledge and ability that our combined 120 years experience allows us. This customer would not leave my men alone and caused discord between my crew members almost from the minute we started the job. He thought the base was not prepared right . The base was graveled and compacted to the correct depth. Then with the owner complaining it wasn't deep enough my crew and I regarded the base even thicker with the customer still not believing he had 4 inches depth. This resulted in my having to order and pour approx. 3.5 extra yds. of concrete to complete his job. He still doesn't believe his concrete is 4 inches thick. You should believe me, but the math should be trusted without question. He said the math is B.S.. The customer and I agreed as part of our contract that I would wait till the drive and walk was poured to receive .any payment Then the full payment for the job would be due.. He could see his job , me trusting to be paid, then him trusting me to power-wash and seal as agreed in 6 to 8 weeks. He refused to live up to his end of the agreement but withheld an amount more than my charge for the wash and seal would be. Then within the time to do the wash and seal he had the sealer work done by someone and turned down the request for final payment of the difference of the original contract minus my charge to powerwash and seal.. His assessment of the experience is unhappily shared by this contractor."
Dan and the crew were very professional, experienced and worked great as a team. Dan's been doing this for quite a few years and he'll tell you himself, if there's a better way to do it, he'd be doing it that way!
We couldn't be more pleased with the experience and the end result. We would definitely use Dan Few Concrete again and recommend them to everyone else.
"Wow? I am shocked at this review and must take a look at my inability to communicate with a customer in a way that I'm understood better. The job that we are talkin about entails a garage that is about eight inches lower than the driveway that has a drainage area at least the size of the garage and the ground around the garage, with very little, if any slope away. I made a couple suggestions to remedy the problem while I was there. The ways I suggested, were out of the customers budget, or were not received with approval. As I remember, I told the customer I would get back to her if I thought of another way to take care of the problem. I can't make water run up hill, and have not found or thought of a better way to take care of her issues with the drainage problem. I haven't heard from her till I read this unfortunate opinion. I don't know if I should call her to talk or not. Her suggestions to fix the problem were in my opinion putting a band-aid on a problem that need surgery. I do jobs like I would do them for myself or I don't do them, because when I am done with a job I want to know its right. I reviewed my notes on her message sheet and my notes about the site as well and feel as though there must be a misunderstanding as to what was supposed to happen. If this was my fault, you can be assured it was unintentional, and I will work to not let this happen again. Do to the scathing review I will not contact the customer but would encourage them to contact me to remedy the problem. Sincerely Dan Few"
