"In response to this complaint. I will respond to each individual issue that the customer has brought to our attention. This is an unfortunate situation and has been blown way our of proportion. We have been in business for 13 years and we try to do the right thing for our customers all the time. We are not the cheapest company in town and do not wish or claim to be. We offer professionalionally fabricated stone counter tops, utilize state of the art machinery and there are alot of variables whithin each and every job. Every job requires mutual understanding and respect from both the company and the end customer. This situation began because of misunderstandings and miscommunications from the customer and the contractor when scheduling the initial time for DMG to come out and measure the countertop area as they were not completely ready for us to measure and as a result we had to return another time to complete a template measure. This problem was the beginning cause of this situation as our contract clearly states that there may be charges for return trips if customer is not ready at scheduled time for our employees to do their jobs. Additionally, all of our policies on every problem point that the customer has issue with are clearly stated and signed off on by the customer. The following points are in direct reference to the filed complaint: 1. This customer was given an estimate based on the measurements they verbally provided to us. Upon measurement one area was larger than they had communicated to us. So the price did go up once we had the correct dimensions. There was no “mark up” or “bait and Switch”. We sell our material by the square foot and when the square footage goes up so does the overall cost. 2. The customer came in and signed a contract for the work, paid the full amount of the quote and went over a detailed scope of work with our sales rep which was also signed. This constitutes an agreement for us to perform our work. Also we require that payment in full is received before we begin fabrication on all retail jobs and all builder jobs in which no account terms have been established. 3. After we were in contract the customer called and asked if they could have a refund because they received a lower estimate. We asked them to send us the estimate and received an email with some numbers but could not tell who it came from or what type of work was included in the numbers given. We were not given a formal quote from a competitor. 4. The customer was called and told that that per our signed contract we could not refund the $155.00 template fee (because we already performed that service) and we also charged $250.00 for all of the plastic templates that we created for the job (customer had the option to come and pick them up) as well as $500.00 change fee that we charge for any order that gets changed after we go into contract. All of these items are clearly covered in the contract that the customer signed. The customer stated that she didn’t know that because she really didn’t read what she signed. In order to try to satisfy the customer the $500 change fee was waived and issued a refund check for their job minus the $155.00 and the $250. We felt that this was more than fair based on the time and work already put into the job and the fact we clearly note these charges in the contract. A check in the amount of $2101.63 was issued - the entire check was refused by the customer because the total refund amount should have been $2261.63 - we made an error when issuing the refund check - a new check was written in the correct amount of $2261.63. Thank you for your consideration and we can forward the signed contracts if needed but Im sure that this misunderstanding can be clearly resolved now that that Angie's List has both sides of the situation."
