The tech came out and "diagnosed" problem saying I needed parts...and left without starting furnace. Next morning I received a call telling me I could be up and running for $750 including labor and the new parts. I had to pay Sal's $143.00 for sending out that tech. Since it was November and the house was very cold so I called BTU who came out on overtime and got it running ....said a few sensors were dusty....cost $129. It has been running ever since

Update 12/25/17 we have reached out multiple times to offer something but no return call. We quoted an inducer motor as it was aging and making noise we never said this was needed to repair. We could of easily done the same to band aid the problem. This is another example why reviews from clients that don't fully understand what we do here is very dangerous and worthless. She ended up finally paying her bill. That is where the problems began. Update 12/22/17 Member refused to pay us after her service call after being clear we are paid on completion of diagnoses. She claims she wanted a price on a part before paying us? Really? Red flag. I am checking to see if she paid anything. The part we quoted was needed to keep things going. If you chose to keep the unit rigged to run that is your choice but please don't slam my company for doing it right. This Member will be added to our do not service list and most likely will end up in collections. Nobody needs a customer that refuses to pay. 12/21/17 Member, we will look into the matter. Horrible both from the company and from Angie's List. They would not do the work I needed done even though there were no exclusions for what I needed done, and then when I asked for a refund from Angie's List since the offer would not be honored, they refused.
Description of Work: The listing clearly stated some of the services they offer and a couple of things that this offer doesn't include like snaking a drain. I called to set up an appointment for them to do some work and the work I needed done, they would not do, even though the offer was for 2 hours of plumbing service which this fell into that category Since this was the only reason I bought this offer, I tried to get a refund from Angie's List and they would not give me a refund. Waste of time and money!

I am sorry if you did not understand or read the coupon before purchase. This wastes everyone's time. Drain cleaning and Plumbing are two separate services and offers. Save your coupon we will still honor at anytime. The 2 hour plumbing refers to repairs. There are thousands that have used this offer with very happy results. I think when we don't budge on the fine print this review is the tantrum. Sorry we follow policy and we are clear about it and will not go outside of it with the threat of a bad review. I am not sure why Angie's would not refund normally very good about that. Thanks, Sal

Worker didn’t check to see if it was working so charged twice for coming out to blow air out of pipe. Toilet wasn’t working correctly after they repaired so came out to fix again and got charged for parts (which is fine) but charged again for coming out.

Don't waste your money. They came out to fix my boiler and they said nothing was wrong and charged me anyway. Turns out that they were wrong. Now I have to get some other company to come fix it 12-14-17 - Just to clarify, the receipt says that for 30 days if there was an issue I would just have to call and they would come out but I would still have to pay for the "continuation of labor", that was on November 2nd, more than 30 days ago so I was under the assumption that I would have to pay the service charge again as well as the labor costs. I have been in touch with the owner who has offered me a refund and I will update if necessary.

The Service Department arranged an appointment around my schedule, and I was notified the night before as a reminder. The Service Tech called me 1/2 hour before my appointment to notify me that he was on his way. The Tech arrived on-time and began surveying the job for the necessary utilities and drain line. The Tech was professional and very knowledgeable and I would ask for him to do any of my HVAC work. His name was Cowboy but believe me he was the real deal. If you want the job done correctly and neatly ask for Cowboy!!
Description of Work: I needed a whole house humidifier installed on my furnace. I saw an Angie’s List Special for the AprilAire humidifier that I was looking for so I bought it.

Things went Not so well at the installation, I thought I would be given some type of credit for the failed fix attempt but was not. $260 out the window. Then when the new furnace was installed it still did not work. I was told I needed a new wireless thermostat. I was fine with that. However the thermostat I would need would cost a whopping $600!!! ***?!?!? Everyone I spoke with refused to help me one bit with the price. A quick google search will show you this very same thermostat can be purchased new for as little as $100. Here are some examples of the exact model, Aprilaire 8710, check for yourself: [*** Link removed ***] [*** Link removed ***] hermostat-7-Day [*** Link removed ***] I initially wrote a Yelp review as the price of this thermostat clearly was not fair. Was I being punished for finding his promo on his website?? I asked Sal if he would simply split the difference for the thermostat to make things fair. I knew darn well he made at least $400 off this part alone, not to mention the small markup on the furnace and original service call that didn't fix the problem. Initially I though Sal would work with me. I am a repeat customer as well. Unfortunately it was quickly clear I would only get hot heated and unprofessional responses. Be careful using Sal, you may have a great experience like I did a year ago, or be price gouged like on this occasion. For full disclosure the furnace he installed has been working great. Description of Work: My furnace at one of my rental properties would not kick on, since Sals did a great job for me a year ago I decided he was the man for the job. However, after being charged $260 or so at a failed attempt to fix my furnace my tech convinced me to purchase a new furnace. I asked him what the best value furnace was for a Landlord and he told me it would cost $2500. Upon looking at the website there was another on sale for $1500. Odd he didn't know about it.... hmmm. On this visit I paid about $360, I believe $99 of it was credited to the new furnace. Anyway Sals did a fantastic job for me last year so I said go ahead with the new furnace. Here is where trouble began.

Unfortunately this guy is all about the money, the price was quoted and he agreed. Like he said everything is working fine. We charge what we need to to stay in business. Here is some of the Yelp reviews. I see they blocked out the links to EBAY showing a used product. I did my own research and found this product for close to what he paid. This Member needs to get over it. See Below. UPDATE to the 4th UPDATED Review. I have been more than ethical and professional up until this point and if these review sites would post the Yelpers full contact info they may be a little more honest in their reviews especially when promising they would in email exchanges not seen by the public. [Member Name Removed] enjoys and apparently thinks he is doing the public a service by responding over and over and leaving out of his post and not doing half the things promised. First off we don't buy anything on ebay and if you click on the link clearly the box is battered and beat up and used. [Member Name Removed] is unemployed and this is his rental property he obviously can not afford and is affecting his review and common sense. I also would expect being unemployed he would have either more time to research business 101 or look for a job. He obviously needs both. If you can find the 8710 for $200 I will take 100 right now. Please keep in mind Aprilaire only sells to a State Licensed contractor like me and I do have 3 of them which makes me highly qualified. So all your research means nothing because you have no access to the true pricing and Aprilaire wants a true professional to install it. I believe [Member Name Removed] even stepped as low as to very nicely use his social media to blackmail me to split the cost with him and post or remove the review all together and that would not be ethical. See his quote from our off site email " My main issue is being charged $600 for a thermostat. I know $600 is nothing to you but its Christmas presents for my kids to me. Would you consider at least splitting the price of thermostat with me? In return I will be happy to update my review or delete altogether, which ever you prefer. In addition you will have won me over by showing your values. After all I am a repeat customer and would like to continue to be. Hope you had a nice Holiday. rk" Cash or Bash! unfortunately that is not fair to the public and I am half tempted to post his name and address to be on a fair playing field but what is fair in business. What [Member Name Removed] failed to mention was the fantastic furnace price he got as he promised to do saving him over $1000 and we still credited him $99 service call and I still offered him a free clean and check on his new unit. Why wouldn't he point all this out? Because [Member Name Removed] wants you to feel we are the bad guys and unethical. We are not and never have been in 43 years. [Member Name Removed] has no clue what he is talking about when he says I understand Sal needs to make a profit but this is unethical. What profit? $600 certainly don't cover anything with this transaction, insurance so we don't burn your house down or a tech electrocuting himself installing your new furnace and $600 thermostat. I am exhausted from all the email exchanges and free advice this guy fails to understand, please research plumbing and heating companies in your off time which you have plenty of and maybe you will learn something. One thing I have learned is sometimes it is profitable to fire a customer. BTW your fired. I will note the system. We will stand behind what we have done for you but we need to both move on. Good Luck. Fellow Yelpers, I have been direct messaging [Member Name Removed] K. in hopes to find a resolution on this Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend. I have concluded my investigation speaking to both installers and Service Tech Phil one of our top techs. [Member Name Removed] had indicated we did not give him a break and that he felt the low voltage wire on the thermostat was the issue the entire time wondering if he actually needed a new furnace. After I read Phil's invoice which I am sure [Member Name Removed] may have, It was very clear he was charged a $99 diagnose fee and found and fixed the high voltage issue for $255. This problem took out the fan limit and transformer in the old 30 plus year old unit. The low voltage could not be tested without these two parts being replaced in it so Phil allowed him to use our online special furnace installed for $1500 a savings break of $1000. He also waived the $99 diagnoses fee. I consider this to be a substantial break and a double discount that should have not been allowed. Please keep in mind this was a second floor of a duplex and running a new low voltage wire would have been a task and would cost much more than a wireless thermostat of $600. I consider a $1100 discount a very big break. I certainly don't enjoy a one star review especially if it is just because of a misunderstanding of the services done. [Member Name Removed] I will be happy to discuss this further if you feel more is needed to bring this to a resolution but considering you received a new furnace, wireless thermostat and a major 120v repair done for less than $2400 I think we did you right. I have spoken to Richard, a company representative a number of times today, and he was friendly and professional. The management decided to honor my discount. I was grateful because I have been a happy customer for years. I look forward to hiring Sal’s Plumbing in the future.

Member, now we need to remove the F Review as promised that was purely used to achieve getting the discount you were really not entitled to because of not producing it, mentioning it, or bringing to our attention to justify the fairness for everyone. Sad that an F review was given to only archive this goal even admitting using our services 5 times and be completely satisfied with each service provided. I am disappointed Angie's list continues to allow this process and not use the review process in all categories to give a proper review of services performed. Some of their Members continue to abuse and use these threats to get their way and this is no different. Thanks for the A but this should have been the grade the entire time and the discount should have not been given as it was not mentioned until the job was done. Sal's Heating & Cooling has very good customer service. I have used them over many years since they had the warranty contract on my equipment. When I had a few customer service issues, Sal stepped right in, took corrective action, and resolved everything to my compete satisfaction. You really can't ask for more. These days, that is pretty special and very rare. I do recommend this firm for your Heating and A/C needs..
Description of Work: I believe people really can't do better by going else where and they will get very good service and at a reasonable price, by using this company. I have used this company for many years. I do recommend this company to everyone. The company charged me only $145 to completely test my Heat Pump and determine my best action was for replacement, rather then repair, and at a fairly good savings to me. Sal ended up getting personally involved with this matter and his effort was clearly made, to retain a good long term customer. Sal personally gets involved to ensure the high standard of quality his firm provides. He is willing to roll up his sleeves and ensure good solid customer service.

Thank You Member, as I explained sometimes my staff needs my help from time to time and knowing that time is key. I try to provide and surround myself with the best folks in the business and that is sometimes a task but I assure you everyone cares about the customer and if something goes wrong it is unintentional. This is why I do my best to be available by email but because of all the sales people out there trying to call me to sell me something we don't need it is tough to get me by phone but I will call you as I did here when I know it is a serious customer service issue. Thanks for the business over the last 17 years. We have grown since we have originally helped with a system that was incorrectly installed when the new coolant came out. I am proud to say we still have Jeff still working for us for 24 years. Although he can't run every service call as he once did, he is a value to our company. Great, extremely happy with the work, and their personnel....it did cost more than I wanted but I suspect it's the going rate.
Description of Work: Had a leak under an upstairs toilet leaving water stains in ceiling downstairs. Sal's diagnosed the problem accurately & found a hairline fracture in the PVC piping.

Not well. Technicians did not know they could have provided a temporary fix so that we had heat while waiting for the necessary part, and provided an erroneous diagnosis. Also, they said we were not entitled to the 5% Angie's list discount for Saturday service. That was not reflected on the Angie's List website.
Description of Work: With no heat in 35 degree weather we called Sal's Heating for repair. Ryan came the same day as advertised. After looking at the furnace, charged $191, said we needed a pressure switch, they did not have one on the truck. Robert came on Monday, said no, we do not need a pressure switch, we need the activator motor for the pressure switch. He wanted another$750. to go get the motor and put it in. We cancelled, and were able to get same day service with our regular furnace repairman, who installed the furnace originally. He came, confirmed we only needed the activator motor, provided a temporary fix by tying together a couple of wires, took 10 minutes, charged us nothing, and left to get the necessary part. He came back removed the old motor, replaced it with the new one in less than 5 minutes, and charged us over $200 less than what Sal's wanted which would have been a total of almost $1,000.

The Member did not pay $1000 for the repair to us, but it appears they paid $800 to a side jobber or one man operation. The bottom line is she needed a pressure switch to find out they needed a venter motor. We did not invoice them for having us drive around to locate one and canceled after purchasing the part they approved and to install. Who does that? Someone who could care less about our time. They used our diagnoses to give to another person and since he or she did not need to figure out the problem saved this Member $200. Glad we could help you save $200 and cost us hundreds in wasted time we never charged you for. Sounds like we deserve the F to me. Sometimes the customer is the cause of their own problems and look for someone to blame. Move on to the next A review. Clearly we know what we are doing and both parts were needed to fix this equipment. Lack of understanding is dangerous especially when they review. The original estimate included removal of the old pedestal sink & installation of our supplied materials. Original estimate was for $649!! But I had purchased an Angie's List coupon worth 2 hours of labor, which I wanted to take advantage of. So the resulting estimate was $ 506.00. As it turns out I removed the old sink, so they only had to install the new stuff. This was a job that one person could have handled, but they sent 2 guys, one seeming to be an apprentice. The cost for this project was way out of line for the work that needed done!! If I hadn't purchased the Angie's List coupon, I wouldn't have had them do the work at all, after getting the overpriced estimate!
Description of Work: We had a small pedestal sink & faucet installed in a powder room. We supplied the Kohler sink & Hansgrohe faucet.

Please be advised this was a pedestal sink which plumbers absolutely hate to install because they are just difficult because of the design. Not one complaint about the workmanship or function and all about price. This was cheap for the hours it took. Good thing we offer the discount on Angie's and you may not have done it without it but neither would any respectable plumber. because you would have paid much more. It is a two man job helper or not you paid what we quoted for the job. Please realize the value you received for something you could not do yourself. Removing the old sink is not helpful and anybody can do this and it is more difficult to install the new sink. Demo is easy, putting it back another story and why we were needed. Please understand nobody can justify complaining about prices if they have no idea what it cost to exist and run a plumbing company. Glad everything is working properly and you are able to use your sink without issue. At least I think so. Yes? You got more than was paid for, that is for sure. Thanks, Sal

They came one day later than promised, but did complete the job in 10 minutes with no problems. I only regret that I had to pay $129 since their $69 deal was not available at the time. They would not even give me the 10% discount that they advertise for Angie's List members.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! I have a rental home. Furnace was not working. I had never used Sals before. One service man from Sals came out on a Wed and diagnosed that a sensor needed cleaning and the furnace was working when he left. Charged $102, acceptable, I was ok with this. 2 days later the furnace was not working again. I called Sals and they sent out a different service man that arrived about 6:00 pm on a Friday, keep in mind the temps are in the low 20's at this time, he called me to say the furnace needs a new pressure switch but he did not have the part with him and would have to come back on Monday, but the furnace started running again on its own. I said that was unacceptable, I cannot risk the renters going without heat for the weekend. He said he needed to call his boss. The next time he called me back he said he replaced the pressure switch and the furnace was running fine. Somehow the part miraculously appeared. Then the cost........$258......I said WHAT? how much is the part?........$150 for the part. I called other places and searched on line and found the most expensive pressure switch to be $70. I refused to pay, wanted to be partially reimbursed for Wed and wanted to talk to the manager, but he said it was too late, nobody is at the office. He called me back a few minutes later after talking to his boss and said if I do not pay tonight, he would have to remove the new part he just put in. Wow. I had no choice, I paid. I called the office on Monday to 1. dispute the cost of the part, 2. being reimbursed for the half hour charge on Wed and 3. I did not get the 10% discount from my Angie's list coupon. They did not budge on the prices and said they would look into the 10% discount. Called me back to say they would reimburse me $14.50. Such a bargain. Pleasure doing business with you. NOT! I will never use this company again and recommend you do not.

Wow, sounds like preventive maintenance would have avoid this call. This is our fault this Member waited until it was in the 20's before taking care of his tenants? Yes we charged you much more than a part on line not factory authorized to cover our overhead and professionals wages and insurance along with cost of doing business. Did the Internet have on the van that drove it to your home? Yes shocker, we get paid on completion. Even though you never mentioned you were an Angies list Member until after the fact which it clearly says you need to so we know to give you the discount we still honored it. Please take your own advise and never use us again. This will allow us to serve the customers on a weekend that appreciate us when nobody else answers the call.
