During the sales process there was nothing that NFL couldn't do to accommodate pool area and surrounding areas that were to have pavers laid. Statements were made as to how work would be done and how all existing drainage pitches would be used, Once work began the issues started occurring and for 3 months it was an ordeal of keeping up on the work being done. I will try and bullet point some of the things that happened so that others can be aware of and try to manage so it doesn't happen on their job if you use NFL. Let me be clear - paver group only. I cannot evaluate other parts of the company. - Never received a call that materials were being delivered to my home. I happened to text sales rep night before and he told me that stuff was coming the following morning. If I wouldn't have asked, all the paver fill, gravel and paver pallets would have blocked us from getting cars out of garage area. Answer from NFL was that someone from company would be there in the morning to accept delivery of supplies ( that would not have stopped garages from being blocked - fortunately two cars were gone and only one would have been stuck) - Wall being built first and I mentioned to worker how a step down wall was to be done on one side and around back of area. He was surprised and said no one told him . He was going to build a sitting wall around the entire area. He adjusted and did work. - Ran out of material and had to stop work on wall and wait days for additional stones to arrive. Had arguments with owner who told me I complain about every thing and I wasn't supposed to get a wall like I was explaining. Fortunately I had texts between sales rep which define the wall specs that were agreed to. Issue resolved but should not have had to go through this unpleasant experience. - Size of paver patio for pergola area was defined in work order as 13 x 13. NFL laid out a 16 x 16 patio and I "complained" that it was too large, Was told not to worry we wont charge you for the extra. I said that is not the point now it is an inconvenience to me because of landscape /grass cutting sizing that I had. I told them to leave it and I will figure out a way to work around. Next morning they came out and cut it back to 12 x 12 (still wrong from work order). I asked worker and he said he made it a little more than 12 x 12 so I should be okay. - Drainage pitches were not being followed around pool area. I had to use level to point out some flaws and floor was lifted and re laid to be sure water didn't accumulate in one corner. - Never had issue with water draining into my storage shed. Now every rain has water draining into shed and It was suggested that I might put diverters on door to prevent water from going into area,( doesn't work well in winter with snow on ground - doors wont open). - Patio under pergola has poor drainage. Water accumulates in middle of pergola like a saucer. I told owner to leave alone because every thing they re fix they mess something else up. I would just sweep the water after a rain. Unfortunately the patio is always dirty looking because the rain washed dirt onto the surface because they didn't lift the base as I had told them they would have to do. - when paver floor around pool area was complete the dirty stones needed to be power washed to clean before applying a sealer. The job foreman told the owner that this must be done and sealer should not be put on before power washing. Unfortunately when power washing the sand in the cracks was disrupted and in some areas more than others. Spray marking from heavy power washing occurred on a number (4 -5) of paver stones and they had to be replaced after sealing was done. When they replaced them they didn't reseal them and color discrepancy was evident. I ended up sealing those pavers so NFL didn't have to come out again. - When sealing the paver patio around the pool someone laid a brush on top of one of the pillars and it left a big smudge mark on top of the pillar surface. NFL asked if they could go ahead and seal all of the pillars and it would blend in. That did work but when sealing some one the other pillar tops they didn't clean them and they sealed pencil alignment marks on four of the pillars under the pergola without first cleaning them off. They also sealed the pergola floor without cleaning it first and in one corner there was dirt all over the corner and they sealed over the dirt. - I was told that the sliding board, pool ladders and filter skimmer area would be easy to use adapters on and lift the mountings to be sure that access to mountings would be good. That never happened. There was not a single extension/lifter used and I had to clean out fill from all of the holes to be sure that the screws didn't get covered with the crack sand. The skimmer was a collage of cut bricks glued around the insides of the skimmer area, - The coping all around the pool edge was done very poorly. Large gaps could be seem under the edge when one was in the pool. It was like little craters/caves all around the pool, Nothing was smooth as one would expect. They did repair, but when doing so dripped something on the paver deck and created stains that I had to spend hours trying to remove. It still is very rough under the coping edge in about 1/3 off the pool area, - After months on the job one could see the pressure the team was under to get done so they could move on to the next job. My neighbor told me one day when I was not at home the team got loudly yelled at to hurry up and get the job done. My neighbor was surprised and let me know about it. One of the workers actually told me that they are told, at times, to take shortcuts in order to get done quickly. - On the last couple of days someone spilled sealer on a large portion of my upper driveway and left an ugly stain. Owner said he would have someone clean it up. After a couple of weekends of the team coming back and not being told to cleanup the stain (actually they told me it wouldn't come up), I told owner to forget about it because I had entire driveway cleaned and sealed. I couldn't wait for him to find the time. - Presently the paver deck has many white streaks all over it and I have been told by many that it was because of improperly applying sealer in direct sunlight (which was done by NFL). NFL told me not to worry about the streaks that they will go away eventually. He told me that happened to his fathers job also and it eventually went away. I am communicating with the sealer manufacturer to try and see what remedies I will have. There are many other issues that I had to deal with but the job did finally end. Happy we are not. I am anxious to see how the work done makes it through the winter and what issues (if any) surface. There is a two year warranty on stone/wall settling but I sure hope I dont have to address that. I will say that the dedication and hard work of the two dedicated workers was excellent. They worked hard in the hot sun, cleaned up every day and were very polite and professional. some of the issues that happened were because a different crew came on some occasions near the end and the chemistry and communications between the two, when the original team wasn't there, just didn't happen. The original crew was disappointed that they didn't get to see their job finished through to the end. I truly believe some of the issues I experienced could have been eliminated if the original team saw the job through to the end. One final point; there was a lot of discussion about all of the pictures that would be taken at various stages of the job and at the end. I was told the crew leader was hoping to submit this job for recognition in patio decorating magazines. There were no pictures taken at the end other than my own. I wonder why that is ??
