I had my basement refinished by ProMaster. The framing was very poor, and in fact, I had to redo the bathroom to get the shower stall square enough to install the shower door. The drywall mudding was so poor, I had to redo it myself twice to get it acceptable enough. They installed every outlet in my basement, including my bar area, onto one circuit, so I can't even plug in my computer and microwave at the same time. They failed inspection because they had connected the bathroom circuit to a GFCI in a storage area.

I called and got a person on the phone, no prompts. Sent Jeremy out with a short time frame. Jeremy was super personable and gave us a fair quote. He scheduled repair within a reasonable time frame for covid and holiday season. Noah and Steve came out to fix, super friendly even helped me move my Christmas tree. Repaired job and were honest that it was not as bad as I thought. Wore mask, were respectful of property. I would 100 times again hire this company. My floor is fixed, and I feel like I found a handyman company to put on speed dial.

A towel rack they installed previously came off the wall. I called to have it repaired. I called a month later for some more work and I was on a do not work with customer list. I asked why and it’s because they were mad that they had to come back to repair some faulty work that they were responsible for. When I asked for a further explanation, they made something up that I was condescending and had other repair people there for my kitchen. They knew about the kitchen repair and came anyway. I think they didn’t come back because they had to repair a faulty job. So weird because this was like the 4th job. I never mentioned that the contractor smelled of alcohol/smoke and left a mess.

"[Member Name Removed], Thanks for sharing your feelings about ProMaster Home Repair. We always appreciate the opportunity to set the record straight when former clients don't honestly represent their experience. First of all, we are always happy to perform warranty work when necessary. It is never a burden for us. Secondly, a towel rack isn't meant to be weight bearing. Third, if our craftsman smelled of alcohol and smoke, left a mess behind, and was generally rude, why would you invite us back out for another project? Finally, we often will notify a former client that we no longer feel comfortable working for them if they treat our representatives or craftsmen with disrespect or misrepresent facts and details. Seeing as how you went on a review binge after being notified that we would no longer perform work at your home, it appears that it was not our craftsman or his work that upset you. We wish you all the best in your search for a home repair contractor that better meets your needs and expectations. Sincerely, Don Kennedy, Owner ProMaster Home Repair"

I spoke with Don over the phone who was very RUDE! We did not even get as far as having them do any work because this guy is a complete and total idiot that I would not trust in my home!
Response from ProMaster Home Repair & Handyman Services

"[Member Name Removed], Unfortunately, I cannot look up any information regarding your call, as we have no record of it. We regret that you interpreted Don's response to your request as rude, as we prefer to think of him as condescending. Lovable, but terribly condescending. At any rate, we are the BBB Torch Award Winner for business ethics - the only company in Cincinnati to win that award in the year we received it. I assure you that all of our employees are experts in their craft, and that we only hire the most trustworthy and capable home repair professionals. It's unfortunate that you weren't able to experience that, as you never invited us out for a consultation. We wish you nothing but the best, and thanks for sharing your experience. Take care, The ProMaster Home Repair Team"

Ben Benson came out to do the work. He was very friendly and completed the many projects I had in one day. One of the repairs he made warped in the direct sunlight after a few months but Ben came back right away and redid the entire repair at no extra cost, due to their great warranty, and now the repair has held up well. Their warranty made me feel safe knowing the work was guaranteed. They definitely backed up their warranty with their service since he did the entire repair twice but I only paid for it once. I would definitely recommend ProMaster as capable and honest contractors! Ben was fantastic to deal with!

Accounting mishap: Charged us !!$6001!! instead of the $830 at deposit. It was corrected when WE called them. Showed up on time, that’s a plus Immediately needed to leave to go to Home Depot to get supplies Work was done by the quoting guy, he knew what he needed to get already, why did he show up unprepared? General level of workmanship is below what I expected given the price. - Didn’t do what was expected, when this was pointed out the proposed solution was to quote more work, which Promaster, as other reviews have pointed out, charges money to do. - very few straight cuts, one of the fireblocks didn't even have nails to hold it in place, just wedged in (damaging the floor joists) and a few heat cycles in the basement has caused it to split. - Some pieces simply weren't installed or the few cardboard pieces still in place were left, not pulled and replaced. - Left a saw dust mess in my yard - Smoked just outside the door and made the entire basement reek for weeks - Didn’t verify leak before or after until I insisted upon it - Many pieces of insulation had ragged tears, missing staples, drooped, etc. - Had to change what was done to the garage door on the fly, despite what was stated at evaluation, no change in price. cost given what was done was too high, I’d expect to pay 1/3 or less for what was done. We will not use promaster again. Furthermore, this is a company with a B rating on Angie's list and they've provided D- work, we will only look for A or A+ companies from here on out.

"Mr. [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry to hear we didn't achieve your expectations. It bothers me, however, when a client misrepresents the facts concerning their experience with our company. I'm thankful that we are in agreement that we aren't a good to fit to work together in the future. There are many other wonderful contractors to choose from here on Angie's List and I hope you find someone who is a great fit for your future needs. Excellent. Ben came out to inspect the house and was well versed in industry standards and provided great piece of mind. Also provided a general estimate for repairs if needed. Money well spent!

The "craftsman" that came out to give the estimate looked like a deer in headlights when he saw our bathroom. While I'll admit it is a bit of a mess, that's why we paid for an estimate from an "experienced" craftsman. The quote we received reflected his inexperience and his desire to out price so as to not get the work. It was more than double every other quote we received. What a waste of money.

"[Member Name Removed], Thanks for your feedback. No hard feelings, we're not for everyone and that's OK. Folks who invite us out are sick and tired of dealing with amateurs who don't answer their phone, never show up on time, don't fulfill their commitments or do shoddy work. For our clients, getting a clean, professional, competent, trustworthy, and skilled craftsmen to their home at an exact time that is convenient for them to diagnose a range of problems or scope a set of projects for $79 is a great value. We continue to have more work than we can handle year after year, so if the market continues to demand this level of service we will continue to deliver it. Take care, - Don Kennedy President, ProMaster"

My service guy, Jamie, was extremely competent. He thoroughly reviewed the jobs I wanted done, gave me some information and showed me some samples of guards and gave me a very reasonable quote. He was customer serviced oriented and very professional. All work was completed and looked great. Am now a regular customer. Upfront service fee was definitely worth the job done!!

I called ProMaster to have someone inspect my leaking skylight.  To be fair I did not hire the company and was aware of the $79 dollar fee that they charge to send a professional contractor to your home.  I did think that I would get more then just a quote to replace my skylight.  So while not necessarily unfair I just wanted to let people know that you if you call ProMaster you may be paying to just get a quote, which most companies provide for free.
Response from ProMaster Home Repair & Handyman Services

"[Member Name Removed]- Thanks for your feedback even though you disagree with our business model. We realize that our policy isn't for everyone, and that is OK. I appreciate your help in clarifying to the Angie's List community who is a good fit for our company and who is not. I'm a firm believer in diversity in the marketplace so each homeowner can find a provider that is best for them, even if it isn't ProMaster. Our objective in the marketplace is to address the deficit of trust and competence which characterizes our industry, not to be the cheapest people out there. Those who provide "free" estimates must roll the cost of their failed attempts to get work into the cost of those clients who hire them. To me, the promise to do something for "free," then roll all that cost into one's project isn't the most transparent way to operate. Our clients tell me repeatedly that they like our company because they get a real technician to diagnose a problem or scope a project, not a commissioned salesperson--which is often the case with those offering "free" estimates. Like almost all professional service companies, there is a service charge or fee to dispatch a technician to a home to solve a problem. We're no different. Sure, no one likes to pay for an diagnosis and estimate if they don't have to. And I can understand if a homeowner is just getting estimates to get a feel for what a project might cost, and hence doesn't want to pay for an expert opinion until they are sure of who they want to work with. But our clients keep telling us, over and over again... that to get a competent, trustworthy home repair craftsman, to their home at an exact time (not a range) to evaluate a wide range of problems or projects, and then have a professional customer service team follow up to make sure that estimate is complete, delivered and questions answered... is worth every dime of that $79. The marketplace continues to reward us with this model so we will continue to obey what our clients demand until they direct us in a different direction. In the meantime, I'm confident that you'll fine other great people to help you with your project here on Angie's List who operate in a more traditional fashion. Thanks for your feedback! Don Kennedy, President ProMaster Home Repair"

I love the way they send an email with a picture of the repairman assigned to us along with his bio.  They are extremely professional.  I have never had a company make sure that I am completely comfortable with the worker, scheduling and estimate.  I have used this company in the past and will continue to use them in the future.

Rep was nice but the pricing was super high.  He kept talking about how high of quality they had (isn't that an expectation for everything?).  I would not recommend this service except for a high end home . . . there's also an non refundable down payment that you must give to them just to have them come out ($85).

I really like this company.  Sure, they are higher in price than other handyman, but they have fantastic people, provide high quality work, and their process is second to none.  Their responsiveness is great and very quick.  They provide detailed information about the handyman prior to his arrival.  I feel safe knowing the person working in my home has had extensive background checks and is fully insured, relieving me of liability in the event of a work related injury.  Allan has been our handyman.  He works hard, is very honest, gives great suggestions, and his work is of the highest quality.  Every task we've handed to him, he's done and done it very well.  Far better than I could ever do.  They show up when they say they will, the call the night before to talk about the work and confirm everything, and they make themselves available day or night for questions.
We've had so many bad experiences with handymen and contractors in the past, but Promaster has proven to me that you get what you pay for.
