They were great. The job was very small and the owner thought that a smaller company would charge me less money to do the work than he would, being a big company. He thought that would be a better way to go; he was extremely good about that. I have some foundation work that I am going to need in the near future and he went ahead and looked at that and gave me his opinion on it even though he was not even there for that. When I go to have that work done, I will call them to do it. I did not think his price was out of what I thought it would be. His responsiveness was great; he even called me back later with somebody else to recommend. He was right on time, when he said he would be here.

I called to get an estimate for a concrete pad to put a shed on. Danielle was very friendly but said they should not be categorized as pouring concrete. She recommended Mark Rogers for such a job.

I was very pleased with GBR from the very start as Danielle was very responsive to my initial inquiries. I scheduled an on-site estimate and Danielle and Andrew arrived promptly and took the time to explain everything to me and answer all of my questions. When the crew arrived to complete the work, they were very efficient, professional and cleaned up after they were done. Overall, it was about a 5-6 hour job with a crew of 4-5 people.

Originally I called GBR to look at my foundation because a significant number of blocks had small areas that were crumbling on the exterior that I wanted to repair.  Danielle and Andy spent over an hour inspecting the foundation, the joints between outside surfaces, the basement, the chimney, and the addition crawl space.   Their verdict was that I had water coming in from several places and as long as I had water in the blocks, they were going to continue to deteriorate.  The main areas where water was coming in were from the chimney cap which was cracked, various joints where the stone front met the shingles and the addition met the house, and the below grade basement window sills that were covered in mulch to the point that they were crumbling.  Danielle sent me a very detailed estimate using an online statement and receipt site.  We negotiated several points and she sent me a final estimate.  Once I mailed her the initial payment, work was scheduled.
They arrived at the scheduled time with 4 people and went right to work on the exterior, filling joints and tuck pointing.  We had removed the mulch down to the proper grade and they rebuilt or repaired every one of the basement window sills.  One was particularly bad and Andy sealed the block under it with a waterproof barrier.   Andy noticed that the cement steps at the side door had sunk and they removed the cracked joint and reattached the stairs to the house. They cleaned up any mess they made and even used their blower to blow our leaves to the curb for the city leaf pickup which I greatly appreciated.
The second day they worked in the basement.  There were stair step cracks to repair and they sealed off the ash pit after removing a significant amount of wet and nasty ashes.  They also scraped all the efflorescence from the basement walls throughout the entire basement. They were very careful not to make a mess and totally cleaned up what little mess they made.
The third day was the chimney cap repair.  They built scaffolding, replaced the chimney cap, repaired some cracked brick and then sprayed the entire chimney with sealant.  They also re-mortared some blocks on the landing of our addition entrance stairs.  Water coming through those stairs was a source of moisture in the addition crawl space.  Again such care was taken with the scaffolding not to tear up the lawn and everything was cleaned up.

I contacted them through their website to come and give me an estimate of what it would take to extend the height of my chimney. Danielle told me they would not be starting any new fireplace jobs this year. I asked if they could come and look so that I would know about what something like this would cost. She explained that their estimates were only good for 30 days and they were not interested in looking. I just moved into my house and have a broken fireplace. It smokes my house up when I use it. They were responsive which is why this is only a D and not an F. After all the favorable reviews on here, I would have expected them to at least help me with an estimate even though it could change by the time they could get to the work.
Response from GBR Masonry Inc

"(Removed Member Name), We sincerely apologize that we are not able to help you with the scope of chimney work you have requested this time of year. Taking the time to inspect your chimney during this season is not an ideal business situation to be in knowing work cannot be performed for at least 3 months time. We would however be willing to accept photographs of your existing chimney to provide you with an informal "ball park" figure to help you with the other estimates you have received, as you mentioned we were not the only company you contacted. We will look forward to receiving your images, in which you will receive a general figure to help you budget this project. If we don't hear from you, we wish you the best of luck moving forward!"

Met with contractor and GBR Masonry did a thorough inspection of our property.  E-mailed us a proposal within a reasonable amount of time and started work within a couple of weeks.  The job went smoothly and very pleased with work.  I small spot had been missed, brought it to GBR's attention and it was fixed the next day.  Pleased with work and I am planning on using them again sometime.

The initial contact with Danielle was prompt and very professional.  I gave her the the location of the commercial building to visit at their convenience in order to provide a quote for the necessary repairs.  I expressed to her that most of the windows were leaking inside the offices which was a main concern to have fixed.  I then met them at the building to review the quote.  I was very impressed with the amount of detail they provided to me for the necessary repair work.  This made me feel very confident in their ability to do the job successfully.  I went ahead and scheduled them for the work.  They arrived as scheduled, provided all the work as quoted, and I am amazed at the end result.  What a great job they did!  I would highly recommend GBR Masonry to anyone needing their type of services.

After providing the estimate we scheduled the job, they arrived and cleaned all mortar joints on front RH porch, removed the area on top that was installed incorrectly, re-applied mortar (to joints and bricks) cleared all debris. Additionally they installed a layer of bricks which I purchased to two window wells at the front of my home. Was  an awesome job. Thanks to Angie's list for providing a great quality professionals. :-)

From first contact, GBR was responsive - fabulously so.  The office manager listened to my needs, had me take JPEG pictures to send to them so they could see what needed to be done.  Then they followed up with a visit to make the estimate.  They pointed out additional areas that needed to be addressed AND looked at our chimney while they were there (separate quote already received for that job for the future).

They estimated their work schedule as being two weeks out - and they called the day before two weeks to say they were coming exactly as estimated.  They showed up on time - and they worked all day (crew of 3 full time) until the work was completed.

Looks fabulous - and I am so glad this repair is done.  This is a very professional business and the quality of work is very, very high.

Worth the money; will hire again.  Can you say "Super Service"?

They tore out old timber retaining wall and relaced it with concrete block. Added drainage pipes and hauled away old material. Were there exactly when they said they would be and finished on time. Great work.

I had a patio that some of the slate was coming up. I was going to have it rebuilt. Instead of rebuilding the existing stone they thought it better to put in new stone entirely. They did a magnificent job. These people are masons. They had the stone cut and put it down with mortar. The quality of the their work, the time and pride that they took. This took a good amount of time to finish but they were so conscious of the quality of their work that I am certain there is not a single flaw out there. They were just absolutely phenomenal people. They were a crew of 4. The owner, his wife, and 2 other people. They have worked together for some time. They arrived at 8:00 sharp in the morning and there were days they did not leave until 5 or 6. The work was just exceptional. I would recommend them to anyone. They came out and gave me an estimate. The work was done quickly and it was done exactly to the initial budget quotation. One of the most valuable things was that I would ask them what would this look like if this were done. They had the experience to say, yes this would look really good. I could rely on their judgement and experience about a matter in which I have no experience myself. I absolutely came to trust their judgement. They took some photos of the completed work they had done and they will use them. They had photos of work they had finished before they started my house and that work was beautiful. They had pictures on their cell phone and also by email. They sent the quote via email and they also had sent a hard copy that I could review and sign.

Although we did not proceed with project, we were very impressed by the knowledge and professionalism of GBR Masonry.   They were friendly and easy to engage.   They provided two quotes as requested.  They were very informative on how the process would work.   I would definitely contact them again if we decided to proceed with project.

GBR repaired the firebox and exterior brick facia in a timely and professional manner.  No additional work, or fee were required.

Their initial response was good, but I did not ultimately use them. They came out to my house, took a look at it, and gave me the quote. I wanted them to make some adjustments to it and they never contacted me back. The process was fine, but I just ended up doing it and picking out something.

Danielle & Andy came over promptly to look at the planter.  We were not sure if removal or rebuilding was the best plan, but the deterioration of the brick made the decision easy:  tear it down.  Danielle, Andy and Ed broke down the planter and removed all of the brick.  They were careful to save some of the bricks for future use, telling us that bricks this size are no longer made.
They brought over some limestone samples.  We chose a sample and told them we wanted a random pattern of stone.  We received a very prompt estimate and gave them a deposit for the stone.
Work began about 3 weeks later.  It took two days to complete the job.  They also fixed up a couple of loose bricks on the front of our house at no additional charge.
This is a great company.  Danielle and Andy are very pleasant and professional.  The work is of outstanding quality.  They used an extra piece of limestone to make stepping stones so our mail carrier wouldn't track dirt on the porch.  The work was done quickly, quietly and with great care.  The crew was Andy, Danielle (who does her share of the stone work...not just office work), Ed and a stone-mason in training, Andrew.
It was a pleasure having them work on our project.  I would not hesitate to recommend for any stone work.

Initially Danielle and Andy came over to give us ideas of how they could remodel our existing fireplace to update the look and to accomodate a flat screen TV over the mantel.  They advised us to check different stone places to look at samples.  These included Columbus Builders Supply and Lang stone.  We ultimately decided on real stone and went with Lang Stone.  We also needed to remove the existing wood mantel and lower the mantel which we replaced with a rough cut limestone and also put this on the hearth.  Danielle, Andy and Ed arrived on time on the day they started and did a magnificent job on our fireplace.  Everything was cleaned up and we love our new look.  We had also bought a new fireplace door from Lowe's that Danielle and Ed installed.  This process took about 2 months from our initial inquiries to checking out the samples through the job completion.  Danielle and Andy were always available by phone or in person for all questions and help with design.  I would highly recommend GBR Masonry and would definitely use them again.

This was an awesome experience. I was provided several brick samples to choose from before the estimate was completed. Andy thoroughly explained the process and his idea about the design of the steps and sidewalk.  Danielle was very responsive during the process. I saved a lot of time by being able to communicate with them via email.  They always responded to my questions promptly.  The finished product was even better than I expected.  A lot of hard work was put into this to remove the old brick and mortar, reframe and rebuild the steps and expand and add brick on top of the existing sidewalk.  The steps and sidewalk are now sized appropriately as a front door entrance.  They went over and above to get the job done quickly by working on multiple 100 degree days!  Their attention to detail was amazing. I couldn't be more pleased with the results!!

The quote amount was about $4500.  We did not hire them.  The process of getting the quote went fabulous.  They were very thorough in describing to me what the process would look like and why the estimate was as high as it was.  There were some particular details about the fireplace that they had to work around and deal with.  So they were very thorough in their explanations.  They were very professional.  It finally ended up to be the cost issue as I just couldn’t afford to do it.  They weren’t timely in responding to follow-up emails but they were timely with the initial quote.
