They didn't call back!

Left two voicemails over three weeks with GBR.  Never received a call back.
Response from GBR Masonry Inc

"I did call [Member Name Removed] back - only after I pieced everything together. Our messaging system requests a certain amount of detail - in two voicemails he refused to even leave his name (so I did not call back). I finally pieced everything together. We apologize for not adequately responding to your inquiry, but we cannot respond to every inquiry in a timely manner- I do have the opportunity to choose who is called back quickly based on the detail in the message and scope of work. We hope your project went well!"

All was good technically. They communicated well regarding what to do. They listened to our concerns, desires and suggestions. Since stone removal was done in fall and reinstallation the following spring we assumed the work would be completed in early spring as an unfinished job. They had considered it a new project and scheduled it later. When we told them our disappointment, they listened, agreed with us and moved us to next on the list.

We initially had a mix-up when the wrong stone was delivered to the house, but it was quickly corrected, and the work looks terrific.  We are very happy with the craftsmanship and feel it has increased the value of our house and brought it up to date. They were very hardworking, courteous and adept, and we would happily call on them again.

From the very beginning of when GBR Masonry came out to provide an estimate, they were professional, communicated well and very informative. We had confidence in them straightaway. The estimate was detailed and encompassed a true repair plan, rather than just a quick, temporary fix (which was what was provided by another company). In addition, GBR Masonry was able to provide us a start date for the project, whereas the other company said they would just call ahead a couple days before they were to begin (which allowed us no time to plan accordingly).
GBR came out to begin the project and were punctional. The team begin the project and got into the dismantling of the chimney, they unfortunately encountered a problem...we had bats in the chimney sturcture. (It should be noted that we had found 3 bats (one confirmed rabid) in the house in the past year and 1/2, had the exterminator out twice to try and locate where they were coming in from, but no success...now we knew.) Instead, of saying 'you deal with it, and we'll be back and continue then'...GBR took the bats head on. They went out of the way to assist us in the safe removal of the bats, addressed the problem both outside in the chimney and inside within the house (sealed up any possible openings within the house the length of the chimney). They went above and beyond what they had to or what was expected...just couldn't believe how much they did to help us eradicate the problem.
Once the bats were safely removed, they carried on with the project as planned, and completed everything within a week. The chimney looks fantastic. We had concerns that the new stone would be clearly different in color from the old (which was built in the 1950s), but they matched the kind of stone and color so well. There's almost no difference between the old and new. We now have a safe, bat-free chimney, fantastic looking chimney thanks to GBR Masonry.
I would highly, highly recommend them with no hesitation. Stellar work from GBR Masonry.

From the moment I met Danielle and Andy, I felt very confident and comfortable that every detail would be tended to!  They were very professional, responsive, friendly, reasonably priced, and punctual.  The start date for my project was September 15, 2014 and the entire crew was at my home promptly at 8:30am!  Every day, they  were all consistently on time and worked steadily until the end of the work day.  The estimated completion was scheduled October 3rd and they finished 3 days early!  Their dedication to quality and workmanship was unsurpassed and I would highly recommend them.  I plan on having them return to do some work on my front porch as well!  In gathering estimates for this job, while they were not the lowest bid they were not the highest bid either.  I am so thankful I didn't go with the cheapest because the piece of mind and attention to every detail along with the quality of workmanship can not be stessed enough when you have a large job that will add beauty and value to your most important asset, your home!  Thanks Danielle, Andy and all the guys....we appreciate everything you did for us!

GBR were very nice and extremely professional.  They also helped us with alternative ideas that could save us some money.  The estimate was received as promised.  We did receive another estimate from someone else and decided to go with that person, but I felt very comfortable with GBR and would consult with them again.  I would really like to thank them for their professionalism since we had a very bad experience with another company.  Good work GBR.

I needed a large concrete planter (in the front) and retaining walls (back in a patio) replaced/refurbished at my residence. GBR gave a quote, which was way more expensive than every other mason I quoted. The lady I spoke to told me it was because they were the best mason in Columbus, and I should not trust any other masons/contractors to do the job (basically trying to scare me into over paying for them). I told them I would use them for the back job only, and use another mason for the front job. The lady at the number on here was not good at costumer service. Acted like they didn't really need the job and then did not call me back. Do not use this company. You can find several others that charge less, are better at customer service and responsiveness, and do just as good of a job. The mason I hired did it for 75% of their price and it looks beautiful. I will never call this company ever again.
Response from GBR Masonry Inc

"The quote was provided to the original home owner. I never met [member name removed], and informed him that we were not willing to do half of the job, and wished him the best of luck with his project."

Was absolutely great, they were on time (beat me there) and greeted with a smile.  was very knowledgeable about the masonry work they were looking at.  Thankfully everything was OK and now work was necessary.  What I liked most is that even though there were things that could of been fixed for cosmetic purposes, they weren't pushed on me and they were happy to just provide me with the information and peace of mind that I needed.  They gave me a couple ball park quotes on what it would cost to do any of the cosmetic adjustments to the brickwork and we left it at that.  I would definitely seek their service again next time I think I might need help with masonry related issues.

I worked directly with Danielle and everything was so smooth and easy from start to finish.  The estimate and work were all was done in a timely fashion even though this is their busiest time of the year.  They showed up at 8:00am on the dot as scheduled and the work was performed to perfection and was done in one day.  The wall looked even better than it did before it was hit by the car!  There was a garden at the top of the wall, and I was worried that they might have to tear it out to fix the wall, but they managed to save everything growing there.  In addition to the repairs, they also cemented some adjacent rocks that were loose that had nothing to do with being hit by the car..........just had come loose from age.  They really went above and beyond the call of duty and did it all with a personal touch.  I would recommend them in a heart beat.  They deserve their Super Service Award.

This was not a small job, and a main concern was how it would look when it was all done, since the remainder of the wall and roof was in good shape.  Andrew and Danielle and their crew did an outstanding job.  They carefully cut out each individual piece of stone, then cleaned the mortar off each piece so it could be reinstalled.  The roofing and framing subcontractors were also very professional and did outstanding work. GBR Masonry managed the whole process extremely well, updating me on scheduling, what was going to take place and when, and were very responsive to questions.  Now that the job is completed, it is amazing - you cannot tell what stone was removed and what was untouched - everything matches perfectly.

I was informed by someone who did have the courtesy to provide me a quote that my job was probably too small to be considered worthwhile, thus lack of response. Which is a pretty terrible way to run a business and maintain your good name, especially during a time when reviews like this are so easily written, but unfortunately a trend I have seen over and over again with home repair providers, and based on some other comments here, a trend for GBR Masonry.

We did not hire them. The estimate was a few times over what we expected to be a fair price for the work involved. (Two brick steps from patio door down to our patio were wobbly and in need of overhaul.)

The owner came to my house on time for the initial appointment on May 1. He and I spent about over an hour looking at and discussing my house's porch foundation, which is where the problem was. He told me his wife would come look at the job separately and that they would email me an estimate the following week. It never happened. In mid-May, I telephoned and left a message and got no reply. Finally, at the end of the month (!), his wife called to say they'd moved their office, her husband had injured himself at work, and that they could not do the work I needed. I'm sorry for their problems, but a simple phone call three weeks earlier would have let me off the hook. They took my time (an hour and half minimum) and did nothing for me.
Response from GBR Masonry Inc

"We had spent time contacting the city during those couple weeks trying to get a city official to the property to discuss the structure. We informed him that needed to contact a structural engineer and architect to develop drawings for the structural foundation issues that he was experiencing. We told him we could not provide him with an estimate without structural drawings for the work that needed to be performed. We also informed him that, probably his best option was to do away with the masonry and install wooden/composite material for a more cost effective approach."

Our brick fronted garage had suffered water damage from gutters that were improperly mounted (whch were fixed prior to the tuck pointing). The mortar was deteriorating and the facing and the front door stonework had separated.
Within a week of my calling, Danielle and Andy came out and gave an estimate. We were so impressed with their knowledge, that we contracted with them that day.
The work was done within the following two weeks (working around the wacky weather), and we are extremely satisfied.

We were extremely pleased with the work performed by GBR Masonry at our home.  I had contacted Danielle with GBR and she promptly sent a representative to our home to determine what work they would recommend.  We then received  an estimate for the work.  Danielle answered a number of questions that I had and seemed much more knowledgeable about masonry work than any of the other companies I had contacted.  We decided to have GBR perform the repairs.  The crew arrived at the scheduled time and worked very hard, dismantling our brick steps, removing all old mortar from the steps, rebuilding the steps and then applying a protective product.  The crew was very polite and they did a good job cleaning up after they were done with the steps.  The work they performed was first-class and I would highly recommend them to anyone considering masonry work.  I might add that this was the 4th time we have had work done on these steps and the work done by the other 3 companies was not nearly as well done as the work done by GBR.

Danielle and Andy came out to give us an estimate the day we contacted them, emailed the estimate to us the next day (which we accepted), and began work the following day. Two days later the project was completed They had just completed another job and since our job was relatively small, they were able to fit us in quickly.  When the job was completed they hauled away the debris and cleaned up the area. Danielle, Andy, and their crew were very professional. The cost was consistent with other estimates we had received.  We were very with our experience with GBR and their work.
