Response from Kevin's Tree Service
We apologize for the inconvenience. With smaller jobs, it is harder for us to put on the schedule when our bigger jobs are more priority. Jobs under $400 are usually our afternoon jobs and most of the time a lot of people add work on so it makes our day even longer and harder to get to the smaller jobs. We hope you consider us for any future work you need done.

I called for an estimate and 3 days later Kevin came out (on a Sunday no less!) and gave me a very fair estimate. He was very thourough and polite. I had called two other places, one of which I had used previously (Peru's) and was told that they werer too busy to come out for an estimate and that I "should go with someone else". And I'm sure glad I did. I scheduled the visit with Kevin for a week after my initial call. Nicole who does the scheduling is very, very nice and is quick to return calls. Kevin and his crew came out yesterday and did a fantastic job! They cleaned up so well I almost thought they did some landscaping while they were there They also removed some of the bigger branches that had fallen off and were back behind the garage The tree is a huge, old maple that had been dropping branches. There was a lot to cut off and not only does the tree look better, so does my yard after they left! I had a lawn recycle bag started that was outside which they used (and hauled away and actually left me an empty one when they left! I can't say enough good things about Kevin and his team. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone! )

I requested an estimate over the phone; estimate received a day or so later; Nicole (scheduler) started calling to schedule and called regularly. I was not able in the near future to find a time suitable for me—limited time to split the wood and to be home. She assured me they would move the wood where I wanted and I would not have to be home. I explained that I wasn’t comfortable and wanted to make sure there was no miscommunication so Michael (who “goes out with all the crews”) came to discuss in person what I wanted. We agreed on what was to be removed and the limited amount of the lower branches to be cut back. Work was done on Friday 9/6. Tree and bushes removed; wood stacked by the woodpile. When I came home I was quite surprised at the amount of branches removed from the standing tree. I called Nicole, expressing surprise and asking what happened—was Michael not on this job. She came out to review around 4pm and started talking about the need to remove so much because the branches were dead at which point I questioned why, then, was there so much dead wood—even right on a large branch near where they were cutting—left on the tree. She said she understood why I was upset and would get back with me. No word from her. Saturday morning, I called Nicole and expressed my dissatisfaction again, noting that I also noticed the clean up was mediocre (logs left in the remaining bushes, cable in yard, cigarette butt in yard) and some logs were cut long. She said she would have someone come out “if not today then tomorrow for sure”, noting that they do work 7 days. I waited at home all day Saturday and Sunday—no word and no one came out. Monday morning I called Nicole and she said she had told someone to come out but didn’t seem surprised or apologetic that no one had. We agreed she would definitely have someone to my house Tuesday evening. I waited all evening—no word and no one showed up. I called Nicole at 8pm, continuing to express dissatisfaction. She asked what I wanted done; I said I wanted to know what happened that so much was removed from the tree and to have the long logs cut to size. She said something about having Michael come out and cut all of them in half—I wasn’t sure if that was a serious response but replied that most were fine and that isn’t necessary. I was not hearing much willingness to remedy and was feeling frustrated with the amount of time and energy I was putting into getting this resolved. Also, her credibility at sending someone out was zero by this time so I said I wanted to be done with this and to just have a portion of my money refunded. I gave no amount—just ‘a portion’. She said she’d have to talk to Kevin (the owner) and could get back to me tomorrow. I suggested I call him myself (not sure she’d really call me back given my recent experiences) and Nicole reluctantly gave me his number. Wednesday, I called the number Nicole gave me as well as another number on the card Michael had given me. I called several times and each time was told Kevin was not there and no one knew when to expect him nor when I could reach him. I left 3 messages—two with people, one on a recording--explaining the reason for my calls and that I really wanted to resolve this and to please call me back Wednesday. No word. I waited to hear from them on Thursday, understanding that Kevin could have been tied up on Wednesday—no word. I called Nicole Thursday evening around 8pm to explain that I wanted to resolve this before I wrote my Angies List report but I was not able to talk with Kevin (he didn’t return calls). She said she talked with Kevin and they ‘sidetrimmed’ the tree. I reiterated my frustration and dissatisfaction because the ‘trimming’ was not what Michael and I agreed to when we met in person (this was the first I heard that term and Michael and I actually pointed what was to be done). There was a LOT more removed than agreed on. I also noted that, if the crew determined they needed to do something differently from the agreement based on their assessment in the moment, I was not notified and I would have expected to be with something that big. I requested, again, that “a portion” of my money be refunded—for the over-removal of my tree and for my time/energy waiting around to no avail. I said I would like clear resolution—either Kevin’s Tree Service tell me it’s too bad I’m unhappy and they don’t intend to do anything but will offer an explanation even if it is just to acknowledge an error or they refund ‘a portion’ of my money. Nicole said she’s not authorized to do that but would talk with Kevin and get back with me by 4:30 Friday. Friday, I had not heard from Nicole by 5:30pm so I called her cell number—no answer. I left a message saying to please call me back, I would be in a meeting but to just leave a message. I’ve not heard back from her as of almost a week later.
Description of Work: I asked to have a large tree removed (it was); the wood cut in short firewood lengths (most were—some were quite long); the wood put in back by my woodpile (it was—small pieces and large pieces separated as requested). I asked to have the yews in the front of the house removed (they were; a few low branches remained). I asked to have the lower branches of another maple trimmed back a bit (several large branches were removed at the trunk or cut off half-way—this is not what I wanted nor what we agreed on).

They could not get a bucket in the back yard so the owner climbed up the tree and removed it piece by piece. The helpers sawed the large pieces into smaller ones and loaded them onto their truck. The smaller branches with leaves were fed into a chipper. In addition, the helpers cleaned up the debris from our yard and the neighbor's yard. There were depressions that occurred in our lawn and the neighbors lawn due to the falling pieces of the tree. I filled these in with topsoil and seed. Also, I cleaned up some of the wood chips that resulted from the sawing. In all, I was very pleased with the work that they did as they were very professional and polite. The job was finished in one day.

Crew came on time, nice young men and they knew their business. They cut down one medium and one large tree, cut up the wood and hauled it all out uphill up my very sloped back yard. They did it all in less than two hours. I've used Kevin a couple of times before. Always very competitive to best price, and they don't mess around and do their work efficiently and quickly.

I needed to have work done by a date certain. I called the providers I usually use, and they could not get to it until the end of July. Kevin came out promptly and was able to do the work right away. He had a nice crew with him. He did not use a lift, but climbed a very large tree. I don't think he pruned the Siberian elm enough. He pruned the maple enough, but it was a small job. he cut down the honeysuckle and at first left a trunk about four feet tall. I told him I wanted it all the way to the ground, and he immediately cut it down. They worked hard at cleaning up, but I found cut limbs for days in my front yard. Guess they were stuck in the tree and continued to fall. I was happy he could do the work so quickly, but I wish he had done a better job on the Siberian elm.

Kevin's Tree Service removed one big maple tree and a locust tree. They gave me a quote. Then they turned up on time and stuck to the quote. They were quick and they knew what they were doing. They cleaned everything up. They were great, I would use them again, and I recommend them. Their price was pretty much in line, and they worked with me on cost. I can't say enough good things about them.

Kevin arrived at the scheduled time for the estimate, as well as the time scheduled for the work to be done. Kevin and his crew were professional and there were no issues removing the trees. Both trees were in close proximity to our neighbor's fences, and Kevin and crew successfully maneuvered the tree's branches and trunks away from their property. They disposed of the branches very quickly and left the wood as agreed.

I needed to take down a very large osage orange and a number of locusts. All of them were in difficult places where just dropping them would damage fences, other trees or structures. I think there was a crew of four, but Kevin was the main "master" cutter, the others working at his direction with ropes, etc. I did not need to have the trees cut up and removed, but I am confident they would have done an excellent job of this. They did cut up the large osage orange into more manageable pieces. This is a VERY hard wood, so that made it easier for us to work with it later.
Description of Work: The crew came out to take down four trees in very tricky places, i.e., leaning over fences or other trees I wanted to preserve. They were quick, clean and precise. One person just kept chains sharp and all equipment operating perfectly. All trees were dropped exactly where they needed to be, nothing fell on fences or other trees, etc. It was a treat to watch their professionalism.

I called and spoke to a woman on the phone who comes across as very professional. She gave me a date for the estimate and said they would call first to confirm. A young man, Tony, who also had a good demeanor, came early without calling. I happened to be home, so it worked out to be a good time. Tony spoke to my wife about what she wanted done and then I spoke to him. He talked to me about taking down a tree that was clearly dead or dying. I called back and set up the job. They said they would call on Sunday and give me a date and time for the job. They called on Sunday to tell me that they were behind and would call the following Sunday. The following Sunday, they called and set up the date and time for the job. They arrived within the time they were expected with a small crew. I was in my basement, watching my infant son, and making phone calls. They finished quickly, and I did not hear them leave. I received a voice mail from where they had called me to arrange payment. I went outside to look at the work and found very large, stump-sized pieces of the tree they took down. I was under the impression that they were going to leave me firewood, not stumps. When Tony returned for the payment, I talked to him about the my problem and he said it was a misunderstanding. He did not offer a solution, but suggested I could hire someone to split the wood. After my wife found out about the problem, she called to find out what the problem was. She clearly remembers asking for firewood sized pieces. It had taken us two months after the September storm to get someone to remove this eyesore, and she was upset about being left with a new one. When Tony told her that he did not remember their conversation they way she did, my wife asked to talk to Kevin, the owner. Kevin proceeded to scream at my wife, telling her that if she stopped payment on the *Expletive* check (something she had not mentioned), that he would dumb brush and leave limbs on our driveway. When my wife called me to tell me what happened, I called back myself. Kevin immediately screamed and cursed at me repeating his threat, then he hung up on me. I called back and he told me to stop calling his phone. I spoke to Tony for a few more minutes. He was more diplomatic, and admitted that his boss is a jerk, but he was unable to offer any suggestions to resolve the issue. My wife and I spoke to our attorney that afternoon and were advised that it would cost more to win the case in small claims court than it would to have someone else do the job right. So, I'm washing my hands of Kevin's Tree Service. You'd do well to avoid them all together.

The guys at Kevin's Tree Service were very responsive on the phone and we selected them based on a fair price and a check of their credentials. They showed up when they said they would and if it rained they called us to reschedule. One tree was an 80 year old oak tree that sat less than 10 feet from our house and the neighbor's house. We were very concerned about protecting our neighbor's slate tile roof so we went out of our way to pick the best possible tree service. We couldn't be happier as they took it down with effortless precision, not scratching a single roof tile on either house. They cleaned everything thoroughly and I'm sure we'll call them back to maintain some of the other trees on our 2 acres.
