Golden Bear HVAC

Overall: beyond disappointed / frustrated : The main reason for Goldbear to come out was to diagnos a bad smell coming from the drain / pipes in the basement and there was a $50 travel fee. Brian from Goldenbear HVAC was able to say the smell is comcing from the drain but did not find anything with the furnace initally ( with in 20 mins ). Closer to about an hour into the appt Brian let me know of significate cracks in the heat exchanger and advised to not run the system as it was not safe. I replied with ill have to have my warranty comany get involved as i am alerady paying for that coverage. Brain did ask at one point if there was anyway we would use them for the repair/replacement which I clarified that I just couldnt do that ( again paying a warranty compnay already ). Brian was ultimately unable to help with the bad smell from the drain as they are not a plumber. They did refer me a personal contact ( plumber ). Our heat was turned off and left off at the advice from brain and the warranty company was contacted. 2/19/25: after two days of NO HEAT my warranty company sent out techs to check the system and they found no damage/cracks or any reason for concern. They actually said its " **** fine unit " I find this whole interaction deeply concerning as once i mentioned the drain / pipes, Brian should have let me know they would not be able to check out the pipes as they only do HVAC. Even without the previous statement, the fact that Brian said the furnace is not safe and recommened the furanace be off when I was having no issues with the furnace strikes me odd. My family and I have spent im sure A LOT more money on our electric bill/ gas bill using alternative ways to just get a little bit of warmth.

My air handler kept blowing fuses, disabling the system. Brian from Golden Bear came out, diagnosed the problem to be a faulty defrost board in the heat pump, ordered the part and came back within just a couple days of his first visit, and replaced it. Everything has been working well since then. No mis-diagnosis, no guessed diagnosis, no "throwing parts at the problem," just a correct diagnosis from the start and quick repair. On top of that Brian is friendly, clean, and the type of person you're comfortable with coming in your home.

Brian put a new AC in at a place I own and everything went smoothly and on time. He also came to my house on a service call on a Sunday and fixed my thermostat. He’s very attentive to his customers. A. Seffens
