Because of the harsh winter and especially heavy snow loads, our home suffered from a sunken foundation beneath a load-bearing wall in the interior of our home. This condition manifested itself with cracked drywall, sloping floors, and interior doors that would not close. We invited 5 contractors to provide an assessment and estimate. Two of the 5 contractors declined to provide an estimate, because they didn't feel the work aligned with their capabilities. For the other 3 contractors, we obtained estimates. Since these estimates were all surprisingly close to each other (within $1000), because of both good reviews on Angie's List, and an extremely professional/knowledgeable Sales Rep (Jack Kline), we selected "Ram Jack Ohio" to do the work for us.
Before I continue with the review, let me state up front that if you find yourself needing to have your foundation re-leveled and reinforced in a home that has a slab foundation, that you should expect the job (regardless of who is doing it) to be dirty, noisy, and very expensive. Prepare for this mentally ahead of time, and the experience might be less stressful on you and your family.
Now for the review. As already mentioned, the "Ram Jack Ohio" Sales Rep was extremely professional and knowledgeable. I can't say enough good things about him, and I definitely can't say the same for all the other contractors that provided us with an assessment/estimate (one in particular was a disgrace to the sales profession). The "Ram Jack Ohio" Sales Rep made 2 visits to our home before we signed the contract, and both times he was punctual and clearly explained what was going to be involved in the process. He visited a 3rd time when it was time for the work to begin, so that he could share his assessment with the contractors.
Despite this being a noisy, dirty job, the "Ram Jack Ohio" contractors did a very thorough job of keeping the dust & dirt contained to the work area, and they cleaned up at the end of each day. My strong suggestion to you as a homeowner, is to cover any belongings that remain in or near the work area as thoroughly as possible, because concrete dust has a way of getting onto any surface that isn't covered, or into any drawer that isn't sealed.
The contractors were very polite, friendly, hard-working, and professional throughout the job. The only negative comment I have is that start/end times seem to be rather arbitrary, and workdays were anywhere between 3 hours to 8 hours. I suspect they were working on other jobs at the same time as mine, and if I could do this over again I would have stipulated a full crew working full time until my job was done. As it was, I was quoted a 1-week job that actually took a full 3-week to complete. Some of the delay was due to unexpected job conditions, but I feel the majority of the delay was within their control.
The end result is that "Ram Jack Ohio" successfully fixed our problem - everything is level now, and we now have a foundation that will maintain its integrity for many years. Though I hated spending my money on something like this, I feel that it was spent wisely given our circumstances, and that the future generations of owners who live in our home will benefit from us taking care of this problem "the right way".
