Opening brought out issues in closing. Did not pug promised chemicals in. Ruined my gasket in the filter causing it to leak. Stopped returning phone calls. The owner worked on my spa a few years ago and did good work. He was not present at the pool opening even though I asked him to be. The crew he sent were clearly untrained in opening pools. They broke a ladder fastener and the ladder dug right through the pool Liner. I partially paid him due to the damage. him.

To who may concern!
We've  called him first in 2012 end of season to
close our above ground pool! He used our chemicals, and put the cover on,what
supposed to keep the pool water fairly clean, for next season!
Unfortunately he's crew did a poor job, because the cover
caved in mid winter.
We did not see the point to call him back at the time
because of the weather condition,he would not be able to fix the problem
anyway!
So we called him back 2013 end of May,to open the pool
and to show him the condition of the water because of the poor quality of work
what they performed last year!!
Basically the water was black and not saveable!!!!!!!
We excepted him to to take the responsibility for this problem,
because they were the one who did not put and secured the cover on properly!!
Instead he was just mumbling around and blamed everybody
else but him and he's crew! By the way he's crew is not professionally trained
and he mentioned that!
So he said cannot save the water with any chemicals, so
he said we have to drain it and re fill 8000 gallons of fresh water back in the
pool  on our cost !! We were really upset
and disappointed because that was the reason to call a "professional"
company to avoid this situation!!
So he's crew started to drain and clean the pool so we
can start  refill it!
After they left we've wanna to start right away to fill
up the pool, but we've noticed how dirty and nasty they left the pool, so could
not refill it at the time.
So we've called him back and let him know how
disappointed we were, and ask him to come back and clean it properly, basically
because we were in this situation because of him!!!!!
They are came back with a sour face, and did not
understood why we would not let our kids to swim in a water what was full of
nasty creatures!
He's solution was to put a whole lot of chemicals in there,
and that's gonna solve the problem! Finally two of he's guys start
cleaning  the liner with wet rag what of
course was not strong enough to fix the problem!!
So than we, the owners give them buckets, cleaning
supplies and sponges to get the job done properly!!!!!!
The most disappointing thing was in this whole experience
that he never ever took blame and responsibility that we've had to go thru all
this nonsense because the first place he failed to put the pool cover on
properly!!!!!!!!!!We?ve never received a proposal from him, he said that the
opening the pool is the same price as the closing-$175.00
Couple of days later we've received a bill from him and
we've could not believe what we've seen on the bill!He charged us to open the
pool (what we were willing to pay) but the most disgusting thing was he charged
us $500.00 or so to drain and clean the dirty water and  pool what was he's creation!!!!
We?re just really disappointed, and feel betrayed by Mr.Grossman!
We?re a hard working ,honest people who never was in this
kind of situation, because we?re always
pay for everything, but  this is a
different case!!
We?re refused to pay for the draining and the cleaning of
the pool, but still willing to pay for opening the pool! $175.00
And make sure have everything in writing!!!!!!!!!!

Response from Pro Pool & Spa

"I'm sorry [member name removed] feels the way he does, this work was done over a year ago and 8 months ago. It was not until we demanded payment that this issue arose. Unfortunately we had to move through the court in order to receive payment at which point [member name removed] was ordered to pay the full amount due. Additional attempts to avoid payment were judged in out favor. This is the second review [member name removed] has placed on Angies List for the same work, the first one he removed according to the courts recommendation. Again we are sorry [member name removed] has taking this action after this issue has come to a conclusion and the court has judged against him."

From the get go, It when well with Howard, We paid him to get the heater in and he installed it. We were wondering why we never got a receipt or bill of sale for the work done or even for the heater considering it cost $2200. He left the electrical unfinished and jerry rigged, It was a hazard and after speaking to the local electrical union what he did was illegal, you can not splice cables together and hold them together with electrical tape. He said this would be fixed.   The heater was installed in July, about 2 months later it stopped working.  Howard came and had told us the water heaters coils were broke. After contacting the mfg, We were told it would not be covered cause the water was to acidic. The water was never tested on site or shown to us. I test my water twice a week and everything is fine.
After this i got know response from Howard and or the MFG rep.  I had to contact Raypak the maker of the heater myself. They were extremely friendly. After seeing the work he performed on the electrical they agreed that is not how they do business and it is unsafe to leave things that way. They sent more parts out to howard who then sat on them for what appears to be a couple of months. I worked with Raypak more in sending pictures and it went through the Winter, They promised to have it cleared up first thing in the spring. I contacted Raypak in the spring and they had another service rep of theirs come out to fix the problem once and for all. I first had to hire an electrician after my father shocked himself on the open wire that was left in his backyard.  So on top of the $2200 which was supposed to include install, I had to pay another 125 because Howard does not know how to do electrical work properly, or just failed to follow up for 7 months.
After this gentleman left, Another piece went missing. I called him and he said he would send it to Howard. Never getting a call back from howard, I called him to verify he had it, He did, and sad it would be another 8 days before he could come out. Thats was not acceptable since this has been on going for 9 months at this point. I asked him to drop it off, he did but again never followed up and i had to call him to verify, He left it in the mailbox.  We were home all day, Not sure why couldnt knock on the door? All along the heater was not used and left open by the people that serviced it.   Finally, I found a reputable company who was able to come out and fix the issue that Howard was unable to fix or unwilling to.   If you need pool work please call Hastings Waterworks. Very good responsible people.  I have pictures if anyone would like to see how the heater was left for months.  WIth the electrical wide in the open for children to touch.

I had a prior issue with our pool and he was good about coming out to fix the problem. Sometimes you can't control what happens. He also did not charge me for the pool closing. I have probably spent about $4,000 total with him. He is scheduled to come out very soon this spring to open our pool for the season. He has excellent customer service and is very attentive. I price shopped and their pricing is excellent.

Howard was AMAZING!!!  I called about the heater on my hot tub not working.  he was at another client and said he may be able to stop out and look at it when he was done.  this was completely unexpected as it was two days before Christmas.
Howard went to the house and assessed the problem.  called me to confirm what he thought it was and I told him to go ahead with the repair.
within 3 hours from the time I placed the service call, the repair was done.
Definately would recommend to ANYONE.
Thanks Howard!!

Howard is terrific.  He gets the job done right on the first time.   Replaced the section of pipe that was leaking and made sure the connections were holding before leaving the job.  He is knowledgeable and trustworthy.  I am lucky to have found him on Angie's List.  I have no reservations recommending him to others.  I will certainly use him for bigger projects in the future.  What a find!

Howard's team did a great job.  They went above and beyond my expectations by working weekends and early mornings to complete the job.  They were professional, polite and extremely helpful throughout the process of rehabing my pool.  I continue to use their services for closing the pool and will use them to open the pool in the spring.

Left one pipe valve closed during winterizing, when I opened the pool in the spring there was a major leak in the broken pipe, Howard was contacted by the company that opened the pool, and was informed about the situation, he could not come to fix it in 2 weeks period, despite explaining to him the urgency , he sat up an appointment in one week, he failed to show up as usual, never responded to numerous messages, real crapy service. The problem had to be fixed by a different company. Howard refused to compensate me for the repair cost done by the different company; siting lame excuses, as all his work doesn't come with any meaningful warranty. I will be pursuing a legal option. I would like to add that Howard knows when he closed the pool ; that a different company will be opening the pool in the spring, that company installed my liner last year and they need to verify the integrity of the linef after winter closing. I think it is the duty of Angie's list community members; to expose shady, and mediocre customer service to other members.
Response from Pro Pool & Spa

"I'm writing this response in regards to [removed member name] review. There appears to be some misunderstanding according to the review [removed member name] wrote that brought us too our hard thought decision to 'no service'. First and foremost we were never told that a company he had previous work done would open his pool. See the company that [removed member name] hired before we started our work put a liner in the pool which had some issues and he was not happy which from what we were told was the reason he initially called us. Unannounced to me that company did do his opening and did call me in the spring time to told me that there was a leak from a pipe when they started the system. Concerned I immediately asked a few questions and from the answers I received it very much sounded like a issue unrelated to the closing. [removed member name] would not accept my factual answer to the leak, but accepted it from a company he discontinued service with last season. In July, [removed member name] called in regards to service at which time I put him on the schedule. Arriving for the service appointment, [removed member name] was not home, did not answer his contact number, and left the gate to the swimming pool locked. At the bottom of the gate [removed member name] left a paid invoice from the company that repaired the leak earlier with the part laying beside it. It is in our opinion that this was done deliberately, at which time we made a first time decision to 'no service' unrelated to non payment. In early August, [removed member name] again called and I notified him that we will no longer service his pool. He was not happy with our decision. I'm sorry [removed member name] feels this way, and I wish him the best since we feel we are not the contractor for him."

On first scheduled date for service he unpacked the pump and said he could install it but there was a defect and it probably wouldn't last.  He had another sent overnight.  He did the work while I was at work and refilled the spa. He left the old pump for me to see and billed me later.  Very convenient.  I really don't know what this work should cost but this provider did have to come out three times

He is great and I would give him the top rating.  I actually haven’t got my bill yet and so I don’t know what his charges are.  I think the guy’s name is Howard and he’s great.  I refer him to a lot of people and he’s just very knowledgeable at what he does.
