I did not like how my massage therapist had his phone alarm set to signal when to end the session. It was distracting and not very good practice.
Description of Work: Massage was really too hard although I asked for it to be lighter twice. The massage bench even popped, it was so hard.

Absolutely love the Dublin fitness location. I've used various other fitness centers and fitness training over the years. This place is by far the best. They have everything you would ever need in a fitness center, plus. Yes, it costs a more than other gyms, but after comparing what you get for your membership it is well worth it. If you are looking for a basic workout facility, you can find cheaper. What sets this fitness center apart from others is the variety of options available and that most are included within your monthly membership. Excellent indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Two full size basketball courts. Racquetball courts. Group fitness classes, yoga, basic Pilates, aquatic fitness and spinning are included with your membership. Personal Training, TEAM Boot Camp, Reformers Pilates, Nutrition Coaching are available for additional fees. Totally reasonable price when you consider what you are getting. I know they offer child care services and spa treatments, but I have not used those services. Life Time Cafe offers some great tasting and nutritional meal items for a quick meal on the go or a place to relax with some workout friends. Locker rooms, saunas and steam rooms are regularly cleaned with an ample supply of free towels for your use. The site is very convenient - open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The personal training staff have been excellent. They have their personal training desk staffed throughout the day where a trainer is always available to answer questions about equipment and available services. They are certified, knowledgeable and professional. I've worked with a few different trainers. They have always been friendly, helpful and challenge you to reach for your goals. When I have had a concern, I have found the staff receptive and willing to listen. Example was when locker room space was at a premium and some folks were and quot;claimingand quot; lockers as their own leaving their stuff overnight. Management was quick to respond and swept the lockers and reminding folks of gym policies. I've never had a billing issue. The auto payment method is easy. You can use the same account (optional) as a house account should you wish to acquire additional services, whether personal training, nutrition coaching, spa services, life time Cafe or others. All is very convenient.
Description of Work: I've been a member since October, 2007. I pay a monthly single membership fee of $65. I have also acquired various personal training services and nutrition coaching from an on-site registered dietitian. I have been participating in their TEAM Fitness / Boot Camp program for a couple years.

We have been members with Lifetime Fitness since they opened but we quit now. We quit because we weren't using it and it was a lot of money, $30 a month. It was far from us so we joined another place close by and it's less money. It was kind of a hassle because they wouldn't let us cancel. We had to wait for two months and we had to pay for that long even when we were not using it. We weren't too happy with that. My husband actually had to go in there to cancel; we couldn't do it over the phone. They closed for couple of weeks for remodeling but we still had to pay. I would probably go back there if we moved closer. They did give me an option to go to their center in Dublin but it was too far. I used them when we were in that side of town, it was closer then. They were pretty good with their communication.

We have been member of this gym since 2007. Today we went in to Lifetime Fitness to drop our membership. We were asked to wait while a person came to speak with us. We waited for fifteen minutes before we went back to the desk and advised the person that we could no longer wait and to just cancel our membership. Then Robin told me that I had to wait because that was their process. I told her that I didn't appreciate her attitude and she told me to lose my attitude. I said that I simply want to drop our membership. The manager came over and told me that he didn't have the authority to cancel our membership. They did eventually cancel our membership but said that we still have access through the end of November. We did not want to pay for November, but they gave us no choice. We should not have to pay for November when this is still October and we have cancelled this month.

I'd been a member here for 3 years. The facility is very nice and large, but after a while I realized that no updates ever take place. They have the same hodgepodge of equipment that they've had since they opened. There is plenty of quality cardio equipment but the weight training machines are breaking down and there aren't enough of them. The free weights areas are way too small and crowded, and are frequently filled with personal trainers. Immediately upon joining you are given a free "fitness evaluation" which amounts to a high pressure sales tactic to try to enlist you in personal training. This is an area where they make more money, so it's a priority to them to have as many trainers and clients being actively trained as they can. The trainers, of which they are way too many hanging around, are unfriendly, unhelpful, surly, and generally unprofessional. They engage their clients in programs that are "trendy" rather than beneficial, and appear to be too difficult for their clients to keep up with. The clients usually look pretty silly and frustrated trying to do the "latest and greatest" exercises. They also will cordon off an area to work with their clients, and hog 2-3 machines at a time. Some nights it takes 2-3 times as long as it should just waiting on and avoiding the trainers. I do not understand their unfriendly and unhelpful demeanors. If they're trying to enlist clients, shouldn't they try to be approachable? In particular, a tall skinny older trainer there named "John" will definitely give you an annoyed attitude if you interrupt one of his conversations or web surfing when he isn't working with a client. You can't expect help from them at all unless you're paying them. Overall the place, from reception right on up to general manager, has become rather cocky, as if they feel as if you should be honored to be present in their club. A quality service organization should always make you feel as if THEY are honored to serve you, not the other way around. My kids really enjoyed the outdoor pool at first, but it's nearly impossible to find a place to sit on the weekends during the summer. They need to double or even triple the patio space around the pool. They have the room, it's just concrete, right? Although fairly new, the club is not really adequately cleaned. The steam room is pretty revolting, as are the showers, especially on the weekends. The cleaning seems to be mostly concerned with cosmetics, rather than thoroughness. The overall impression that I have is that they will do anything to sign up new members, no matter how crowded the place is already, but do just enough to keep them. That seems naive and short-sighted to me, as any quality organization will tell you that it's more expensive to attract new clients than to retain existing ones. The gym is too crowded, which is causing dedicated members to leave and be replaced by those who only seek nominal participation in a fitness club. Eventually the casual members leave too because they aren't using it enough, which will lead to membership churn and more overcrowding as the sales team tries furiously to replace those that leave. I have canceled my membership, as have many of my acquaintances there recently. Many of the members that I speak to there are becoming fed up with many of the things I list here, but mainly the overcrowding, lack of updates to the facility, and the overall churlish and apathetic attitudes of most of their staff. I may rejoin some day after they have fired their GM and get their trainers out of the way.
Description of Work: I joined here after my gym (Sawmill Athletic Club) closed for over a year for renovations. Lifetime seems to be a comprehensive gym that offers cardio, weight training machines and free weights, personal training, group classes, 2 pools, sauna, showers, a spa, a decent cafe, and various other features.

We decided to use them based on reports and reviews. They seemed to have the best packages and child care. You weren't locked into any kind of contract. They are definitely a good bet. Price-wise, they are comparable to others. The equipment works, and the child care is well-run.

Nice gym. A big expensive, but very nice. I especially liked the spinning classes and the large number of available machines even during busy times. My only complaint was trying to cancel my membership. It wasn't hard to do, but they keep sending me offers to try to woo me back. This would be fine if I weren't 1500 miles now from the nearest location. I never used a trainer there.

Lifetime Fitness is a pretty nice place. It is open 24 hours per day and children can be in childcare for 2 hours each day (without additional fees). It has a fairly clean, spalike environment. There were always enough machines so that we could walk right in and get to work. We ended our membership because we found it wasn't really right for us. Our schedules did not permit us to get over there enough to make it worthwhile and we stopped wanting to put our kids in the childcare room because it felt like it wasn't the cleanest place to be in the winter (with all the flu and colds floating around). We also found ourselves only using the elliptical while we were there and opted to buy one for the house instead. We find it much easier to roll out of bed and onto the elliptical instead of trekking across town with kids and workout necessities in tow. We also prefer to shower at home. There were a lot of amenities at Lifetime that we were paying for but did not use. They were very nice when we asked to cancel. We did have to pay for the following month (which we expected) because their terms state that if you don't cancel by the 5th of a month you will pay for that month as well as the following month. Our professional grade elliptical at the house has been perfect but going to Lifetime helped us see which equipment was right for us. There are a few negatives that I experienced. One is the pitch they give you in the beginning. I understand they are a business trying to make money but I am leery of the personal trainers. I was paired with one as a "free service" for new members. His job is really to try to hook you to pay for additional services. He tried to make me believe that I would not be successful if I didn't learn about my body (through advanced testing which costs more money and hiring a personal trainer to monitor workouts). However, exercising when you HAVE NOT been exercising will bring results! I don't need to know how my body processes oxygen or buy a fancy watch for monitoring my pulse. And when I did go for the free consult the machines that he was supposed to test me on wasn't working and I didn't get an accurate reading anyway. I didn't care for the sales push. It may be something someone else needs, but I kind of felt offended by it after forking over the big registration fee and the first months dues. But, after trying to contact me just a few times the personal trainer stopped trying to reach me. So it wasn't a hard sell. I just felt like they might be trying to hook vulnerable people who are unhappy about their body into spending more money then they have to. If you get the membership - try just showing up first and get moving, you will see results. Then if you hit a plateau get some extra help. And another minor complaint is that when I would grab a bite to eat at the little cafe I didn't always enjoy hearing the trainers who would hang out and talk to the guys behind the counter. It wasn't always professional and I was really grossed out when one trainer complained of being sick and having to get out of bed to go work upstairs and then turned and coughed into the food prep area. That helped seal the deal that this was a super public place and my husband and I would just prefer to work out in the privacy of our home. To Lifetimes' credit they do provide wipes for the equipment. And, even though I went to the back of the room away from the TVs I got tired of the images of Jerry Springer and shows like that playing while I was trying to clear my mind. I am sure this is great for others - maybe they like the stimulation. Again, it is a nice place that probably works for many people (which is why I checked that I would use this provider again even though we will not). We just prefer to route our money to a home elliptical with a great warranty and watch DVD's in peace while we exercise. And then shower without flip-flops!
Description of Work: My husband and I had a family membership to Lifetime Fitness in Dublin from August 2009 until February 28, 2010. Our membership was for family because we included our 2 children as junior members so they could go to childcare when necessary. We paid $130 per month on a month to month basis.

Lifetime is the Cadillac of gyms: they're one of the priciest, but you do get what you pay for. They are incredibly clean, well-serviced, with tons of options for just about any workout pace or mood you may be in. The gym feels like a resort, which for me helps add to my motivation to go. If you can afford the extra cost, I think it's worth it.
Description of Work: Lifetime offers just about everything: free weights, huge selection of cardio and weight machines, lots of TVs to watch in the workout area, group classes, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, climbing wall, basketball court, raquetball.squash courts, lap pool, hot tubs, sauna, steam room, well-furnished locker rooms, childcare cafe, and salon. They have many special events for all ages. The only thing I've seen that they don't have is a jogging track.

I signed up for a health club membership online in December and put in a credit card for payment. They had said, if you sign up on line you donot need to show proof of your credit card in person. On the 17th I had gone into workout and they said they needed to see a copy of my credit card. I asked why, and the employee, nor the manager could tell me why. I called corporate and they could't give me a straight answer as to why they needed it. I refused to provide it and they eventually backed down. The issue was resolved and I have had not further problems. The facility and pool are very nice and new!

I have been going for a little over a year. It is very clean. The cost is ok, not great, but the facility is great. They have indoor and outdoor pools. They have classes that my wife can use. For most of the classes they are part of the membership. The hours are perfect. It is open really late. I think it is open close to 24 hours. They have child care facilities. We have a lot of friends that go there because of the child care facilities.
