We paid a little bit more for an upgraded carpet. We like a little bit better. The owner of the place was the gentleman that we were dealing with for the vast majority of the transaction and he took some carpet that we had collected in our searches in the local areas and he took those, the ones that we said we like, and he went, did his best to match them, to see if he could come up with a match. He did a really good job. We ended up buying about 200 square feet of carpet. We told them that we wanted it installed about a month from then, and I called them back like three weeks and told them exactly the date. They came in. They installed it. They're in and out. They did a great job. I have no complaints. When they left, everything was clean. The only thing that they didn't do was there was a little bit of carpet cuttings still left in the stockinette.

They're top notch! They worked very quickly. They had a challenging job - they had to tear down 3 layers of linoleum to be able to get to the subfloor. I'm very impressed with the speed and quality of the job!

We went to the store and picked out our floor.  Even with the installation it was cheaper than discount and big box flooring centers.  Our general contractor told us to buy the flooring directly from them and he would not add a mark-up.  They were very knowledgeable about the flooring options.  Once I had picked out what I wanted, they gave me a price, gave me a date when they would start, and an estimate of how long it would take.  To save money, we ripped out our own carpets and laminates, and took off our own woodwork.  Because of animal accidents, we also also painted our floors with an oil-based primer.  We painted the risers on the stairs.  We did pay them extra for moving our barber chair, refrigerator, and piano.
They showed up on the day and at the time they said they would be there.  It took an extra day to do the work, because in the middle of it, the power for the whole neighborhood went off.  It cost exactly what they said it would cost.
In the meantime,  we discovered that wooden steps were not the best for outside a bedroom, because all night long the cats and dogs ran up and down the stairs making loud bangs on every tread.  I decided to put a carpet runner down the middle.  I went to a big box store for an estimate, and it became evident that the salesperson had no idea what a custom sized runner would entail.  The hardwood installer suggested that I go back to Affordable Custom Floors.  Within 10 minutes we had picked out our carpet, and the saleswoman explained the whole process.  She told me how long it would take, since the carpet would have to be bound.  I mentioned that it would have to do, although I was hoping it would be installed before my daughter's wedding.  Two nights before the wedding, the installer showed up on his own time, after working a full-day on other jobs, to install the runner in time for our wedding guests to see it.

It was less damage than what we thought. The price was still high.
We got stuck having to purchase a lot of flooring because it was discontinued and they ordered it specifically for us.

At the time of sale we were informed that the new vinyl floor could be installed over the existing vinyl floor.  During the install a small cut in the old vinyl floor was patched by the installer.  Unfortunately the patch was not sanded/leveled enough prior to installing the new vinyl floor.  A large bump was very noticeable when entering the new floor area.  The company attempted to fix it twice but it only got worse/bigger from the stretching/manipulating of the new vinyl floor.  The rest of the floor went fine over the existing floor.

We were given the option of a refund or replace part or the entire floor.  The refund was not an acceptable amount and the company told us we would have to pay for the cost of the new underlayment that would go under the new vinyl.  Because we did not cause the problem we were not going to pay any additional dollars.

This issue went on for over 40 days and we eventually ended our relationship with this company.  We did not trust their work so we no longer wanted them in our house.

As you can see we signed up for Angie's List to report this problem.  We also found out that this company has had a contractual issue with Angie's List since August 2009.  At the time of sale my wife asked about any coupon on Angie's List.  The company told my wife to look on Angie's List for a $100 coupon.  Thus they lied to my wife since no coupon would have been available because of the contractual issue.

Finally, I don't understand how a company can continue to show the Angie's List Service Award Logo on their website when they are unable to fulfill their contract with Angie's List.

"To whom it may concern; Affordable Custom Flooring and Blinds has been serving the community for over 10 years, and regret the the member isn't happy with the services provided him. The member originally contracted to have sheet vinyl installed over an existing vinyl floor. As stated in our sale conract and estimate, if there are any unforeseen issues that would effect the quality of the job, we will bring those issues to the customer and provide affordable solution. This is what we did for the member. Our professional installed informed the member that is would be much better to pull up or remove the existing flooring and install a new subfloor. We would expect the member to pay only the cost of the additional subfloor. The member did choose to have us install the new floor over the existing floor and signed off on the work to be done prior to any installation. After the installation over the existing floor was completed, the salesman called the member to be sure the work was satisfactory. In addition, the salesman made a trip to the member's to inspect the job. Both the member and his wife stated that they were completely satisified with the floor and loved the result. Shortly after the job complettion, the members called with concerns about bubbles in the floor. Our salesman went back to dicuss repairing the bubbles. Our installed was sent out twice to smooth out any areas that the members so noted. After they were not happy with the repairs. Our company made two ofers to help the members. Both offers were very generous, even offering to replace the entire floor, only charging for the additional subfloor that was not in the original contract. Both offers were rejected. We want the members to enjoy their new floors. Thank you Angie's List for letting us respond and as always we are here to provide beautiful floors."

We worked with Nancy in the store on tile selection and Rick on estimates. They were both very helpful, offering good suggestions. They accomodated our wish to do the carpet & vinyl flooring at separate times to reduce the disruption. Family Room carpet was installed in one day. Rick's original estimate was to remove all the old flooring, but Nick & he agreed that installation over top of the existing flooring was the better approach. This saved us $750 from the original estimate. Nick & Taylor started the vinyl installation on Monday, doing the prep-work through laying the plywood base. On Wednesday, Nick discovered that most of the vinyl product was defective and stopped the installation even though the glue was already on the Kitchen floor. He explained the issue to us. Nancy & Rick became involved immediately working with their supplier to obtain replacement tiles (from Cincinnati). They insisted that the supplier inspect all tiles in all boxes before shipping. This resulted in a full day's delay of the installation and caused Nick & Taylor to have to remove most of the Kitchen plywood and start over. They did this without complaint or hesitation by anyone at Affordable. The replacement tiles were available early Friday morning and a third installer came in to help, completing the entire project that same week, on the original schedule! We've had one follow-up with minor grouting work, which was completed. We are very satisfied with the work and the dedication to doing the installation correctly with quality product! One of the best things about this company is that you're talking with the same people every time and they are all committed to quality work.

Nancy was very helpful in helping us with what kind of flooring to use for the bathrooms. Both she and Rick suggested things that would save us money, and would not take away from the final result. The work was done on time and was very professional.

My husband found this company via an internet search, and we stopped by on our way to a big box home improvement store to just see what they had. Nancy was in the store, and she was helpful and gave us information on flooring that was in our price range. The price was good for the flooring we selected, but the clincher was that since we plan on installing the flooring ourselves, we can hire their flooring installers (or the company they use) for two hours to help us get started. We've installed flooring before, but the option to have a professional help us makes is feel conifdent that we will do an excellent job.

Rick really helped me figure out what would be the best floor for my bathroom. He introduced me to a a vinyl tile that is partially made of ceramic chips. It was a great compromise for my situation. The installer was very professional and did a wonderful job matching the stain on the new baseboards to my existing wood colors in the room. They will be installing my new kitchen floor when I'm ready to get that done.

This was a horrible experience!! Bottom line: this owner showed very poor character and business ethics. In addition to the bold-faced lies, he clearly sent us the message that our job was not that important to him. He will "throw you under the bus" if he sees a better opportunity. The scheduled work was less of a priority than a request for unscheduled work from a wealthy client. Too bad because we have 9 more rooms in which we plan to install hardwood. Another problem with this owner: unlike the former owner, who had been in the business for quite awhile and actually installed floors himself, this owner is a former accountant who hasn't installed floors himself and doesn't know the ins and outs of the business. Do not trust this guy!!!
Response from AFFORDABLE CUSTOM FLOORING
"We are sorry that your experience was less than expected with our company's performance. Please allow us to address the reasons for the happenings at your home. We did have a customer whose job developed unforeseen complications that caused us to call and ask if we could possibly delay the start of your project, wanting to ensure that we used our in-house installation team. We do not prioritize our work based on a clients wealth, social standing, or any other aspect, other than the order the jobs are scheduled. You indicated that you had a strong preference for the work not to be delayed, so we immediately contacted a sub-contractor we have used in the past, and were assured by him that your project could proceed as scheduled. The day your project was to start, there was a snow storm. When you called to let us know that our contractor was not yet on site, we mutually believed that it was a weather-related delay. It was not until after our conversation, and we contacted the contractor, that we became aware that his delay was more due to his unloading of unrelated items from his truck and obtaining the supplies required for your project. This was poor time management on his part. The contractor's performance on your project has caused us to not use his services since, nor will we going forward. We are sorry that you feel that there were any "bold-faced lies". This was not the case, nor will intentional deceit ever be the case in our business dealings with any customer. Since you were a repeat customer we firmly believed that you returned based on your previous experience with our performance. Were there circumstances that forced us to inquire about a delay? Yes. Did we use a sub-contractor whose performance negatively impacted your experience with Affordable Custom Flooring? Yes. Did your project start when is was scheduled, and was it completed when promised? Yes. Again, we cannot begin to apologize enough for your negative experience, but as you can see by other feedback left, this is not our normal customer's result."

We were delayed a few times, which we did not appreciate, as it set back another project that we had going, plus put a crimp in family scheduling. But, that's life, and ACF was polite and straightforward in their dealings with us. The installers were polite and worked efficiently. Rick did a good job in the sales process, introducing us to the tile product and answering our questions.

I didn't know exactly what kind of wood to get and both the sales rep and owner were very helpful and patient. The owner came to the house with samples to see which one went best with the existing wood trim. I paid half the bill as down-payment at the time of the sale. They were scheduled to install about four weeks after the sale. I called a couple days before they were supposed to start and they said the wood wasn't delivered to them yet. It took another four weeks before they actually started. They blamed the manufacturer for the mix up but I personally think they just forgot to place the order. Once they actually started, however, everything was fine. The installers were professional and courteous. They did an EXCELLENT job. I took off work the first day and had no problem giving them the keys to come in the next couple of days. They estimated 3.5 days and they had everything done in three. I cannot put into words how great the rooms look with the new floor.

The guy that they have who does the installation, Joe, is awesome. He is very accommodating. At the time my child was getting ready to turn 1 and he was great. He did a good job. They had a change in ownership shortly after the work was done and they initially said they wouldn't stand behind anything from the previous owner. I had a couple of problems and wasn't aware of that change, but they sent Joe out and he fixed them. We love our floors, they are awesome! Their price was expensive, it was more than we thought it would be. It was well worth the cost though.

I was told that the installation would take 1 day. It did take 7 hours, but the installer started on a Friday, at noon, left after 3 hours, and left my kitchen torn up over the weekend. Because of this, I was left with a very negative impression of the company. I had to take off from work on Monday also. A threshold part had to be ordered. When it arrived, they could only schedule someone to come in the morning, not after work, so I had to miss more work. The scheduling is very inflexible. The installer did a good job, the floor looks nice, but the whole experience was negative.

The carpet was installed perfectly - the treatment we received regarding final cost was disappointing. We've spent over $10,000 with this company over the last 6 years and we would have spent more - this will be our last. We were told we would have to pay the full install cost even though the job was small. We understood and agreed to that. But when the installer came, he mentioned we would have to go with a different option for "finishing" the top step - we were not told about this option up front. This required taking a piece of carpeting back to the shop and having stitching added. We were then told we would have to pay an additional $50.00 for them to come back out to install the last piece - 1 step, 15 minute job. We already spent more than our fair share for the first trip - they even told us that. We feel it was very unfair to make us pay again for the second trip when we were never even told of this option - we believe we would have ordered it from the start had we known.
Response from AFFORDABLE CUSTOM FLOORING
"WE HAD ORIGINALLY AGREED ON WHAT OPTIONS WOULD BE COMPLETED. UPON INSTALLATION THE CUSTOMER CHOSE A DIFFERENT OPTION THAT REQUIRED ADDITIONAL MATERIAL AND LABOR TO COMPLETE THE JOB. IN TERMS OF THE FULL INSTALL COST, THE CUSTOMER WAS CHARGED OUR MINIMUM INSTALL CHARGE PER VISIT. THE ADDITIONAL WORK REQUIRED US TO LEAVE AND COME BACK ANOTHER DAY AND SUBSEQUENTLY THE CUSTOMER WAS CHARGED $65.00 FOR THE ADDITIONAL MATERIAL AND LABOR."

Not a lot to tell. We considered Affordable Flooring because they installed laminate flooring in our foyer, hall, 1/2 bath, kitchen, and eating area about 10 years ago. They did an excellent job then, and are highly rated by Angie's' List customers now. We stopped at their Kenny Road location to look at options. Rick came to the house a few days later to take the measurements, provide a quote (which we accepted), and set tentative delivery and installation dates. Flooring was unexpectedly delivered to our home instead of the store (not Affordable's fault... lucky we were home!). Installer came the following week and had old carpet removed and new flooring installed in 2 days. Everyone we worked with was very friendly and professional. Note: We moved the furniture. The price for them to move it was a bit steep...like $25.00 per item if I recall correctly.

Initially, I talked with Greg in the showroom and confirmed that Marmoleum was the right choice for our kitchen. My husband and I ordered the floor with the intentions of installing it ourselves. The staff was very helpful by talking with us about the tile layout and installation process. Greg also gave us a great price. We then decided to have Affordable Custom Flooring to do the install. Greg came out and gave a detailed estimate. He was very patient when discussing the layout (and I was impressed that he had a great respect for "old" houses!). They did the install while my husband and I were at work. It was great coming home those three days and seeing what progress they had made. We have a 1920s gas stove and I was slightly nervous about someone else moving it. I was very happy that it was moved without any harm. The final product looks fantastic. We love the floor and are very happy with the service.
