excellent job, I had them come back in 2013 to remodel the master bathroom. I
wanted the entire room gutted, with the exception of the double sinks and
vanity. I had taped out an outline of the shape and location of where I wanted
the new shower. Phil and I designed the shower, which required moving a wall
and rebuilding it, relocating the shower drain, creating a marble shower seat
built along the entire exterior wall, and building a custom mud pan to fit the
enclosure size. Glass shower walls were installed. Floor to ceiling wall tile
was installed in the shower, with two niches for shower items.
The shower floor was tiled and accent trim was
added to the shower and above the double sinks. The entire shower area was
waterproofed with a Schluter Kerdi waterproofing system. LED can lights and new
exhaust fans were installed into the vaulted ceiling. The door to the separate
toilet room was removed and replaced with a pocket door. All plumbing fixtures
were updated and a new toilet installed. ADA safety bars were installed in the
shower and toilet room. The electrical outlets and light switches were
relocated. The bathroom floor was tiled in an offset pattern with two different
sizes of tile. The walls received a custom paint treatment by Tommy. Phil
crafted a new medicine cabinet to match not only the wood color of the vanity,
but in his meticulous attention to detail, he even created the same routing
design that the sink vanity had.
Phil and his crew were just as courteous as the first time they had worked in our home.
The crew arrived on time each day and all debris was disposed of and the area swept each night.
The entire crew of Baker group displayed a positive, friendly, and relaxed, yet
professional attitude. Phil was extremely easy to work with and was always open
to customer ideas and concerns. The entire project was completed in the time
frame originally proposed. All items in the contract were fulfilled and
performance expectations were exceeded. The workmanship and attention to detail
is impeccable. We absolutely love our new bathroom and plan on having Phil and
Baker Group Remodeling come back to do our kitchen! We unconditionally recommend

Phil was very helpful in discussing our current master bath issues and in helping us figure out what would be the best solution to the changes that we wanted to make. We anticipated that we are going to sell in next couple of years, but still wanted to make and enjoy the changes, without breaking the bank. Due to bad design, our current shower door was removed and we had replaced with a shower curtain. Additionally, we had no place to store shampoo, or soap. Phil was very attentive in listening to our ideas and made appropriate suggestions and changes based on our needs.
As work progressed, he communicated daily with us to let us know what would occur that day, and what would occur the next. As small things popped up, he was quick to point out an idea or issue that might have cropped up with a suggestion. For example, after the wall was built up, the shower was not getting enough light so he suggested that an additional light be installed. He even purchased and installed the light without increasing the budget. We were given plenty of lead time if we needed to purchase something (trim, extra tile). He and his workers did a great job cleaning up after working each day, so that we could have as much access to our master bath as possible. I felt very comfortable leaving him and his workers access to the house to complete the work even if I was not able to be home during this time.
He and his fellow workers are the most responsive folks that I have ever worked with in the home service area. There were a few minor touch up issues that I encountered and they were extremely quick to respond and have someone come out and fix immediately. This is the second time that I have used their services and continue to be impressed.
and would even strike up conversation with my kids each day. They helped us save money where we could (moving services in and out of the original quote), and even connected me with vendors where they had preferred relationships (shower doors, tile, vanity, & granite). Lots of plumbing work...dismantle old jacuzzi and re-run plumbing for new washer and dryer hook-up. New shower plumbing and new sink plumbing...as well as toilet replacement. Lots of electrical work...dismantle of old jacuzzi, re-run of new washer n dryer electrical wiring, new canned lights, new bathroom fan, and
new sink lights. Lots of tile work...floor to ceiling tile + the entire bathroom floor tile...all perfectly done! Didn't even need quarter-round because the tile job was so good! We felt so good with the work that we had them start to quote our kitchen while they were there. Once we are ready to do the kitchen, we will definitely have them back!

Professional, clean, and high quality work all for a fair price.
We have been enjoying our new basement for about two months and I still sit back and admire the craftsmanship of the work completed. Phil, Tommy, and Benito are true professionals. They converted a cold, tired, awkward basement into a dream space where we now spend the majority of our down time. What once was a dark corner of our laundry room is now a 200 sq. ft. full bath with a walk-in shower with floor to ceiling tile. What once was a storage room is now a family room with a custom entertainment built-in and a dry bar with custom painted cabinetry, granite top, and a built-in stainless steel beverage center. In addition we added a play room for our son that is the perfect size and feel. He loves it.
During the initial site review I explained to Phil that I wanted the basement to have the the same look and feel as any other room in our house. Being an old basement I knew this was going to be a tall order, but Phil did not appear to be concerned. Now I know why. Our basement now looks like it could be in a home that was built last week. He really knocked it out of the park.
The work itself took roughly 60 days and was actively managed by Phil every step of the way. Daily texts, phone calls, and/or visits by Phil, Tommy, or Benito kept the project on track and left us well-informed. The attention to detail and the ability to stay on budget was uncanny. Each phase required minor deviations from the plan due to the quirkiness of an old basement. If an issue cropped up I was informed and presented with options to get around the issue and stay on track with our plans and budget. Rather than saying something couldn't be done, they found a way to do it.
My wife and I felt completely comfortable giving the guys open access to our home during the entire process. I work from home and travel and also have two large dogs that are not the friendliest at times. We were able to work out a system that kept everyone working and living in a comfortable environment while the job was in progress.
We plan to do more work to our kitchen over the next year and I will ONLY work with Baker Group from here on out.
Michael helped to envision the conversion of a former study into renovating the room for a contemporary bathroom that fit with the design of our historic home. This included installing a new glass-sided shower with marble walls, marble-topped vanity, lighting, and marble floors. Lovely.
Michael also oversaw other tradesmen to renovate our kitchen, installing granite countertops and backsplash, new cupboards, and lighting. It changed the kitchen while being cost effective. He reused the space from an adjacent room to enlarge the storage and closet space in the kitchen. He was great in bringing in a fresh and expanded look while retaining the character of the house.
Mr. Baker is thoughtful and listens to owners' interests while carefully guiding them through suggestions. He is timely and communicates along the way to ensure everyone is kept informed. He is extremely punctual and professional in all he does.basis regarding the status of the job. I completely trusted him and his team. They were prompt, courteous, friendly and professional. I never worried about having them in our home
while we were gone. Our basement was finished ahead of schedule and on budget. I would highly recommend Baker Group Remodeling.
Phil Baker and his crew were top-notch professionals from start to finish. They answered our questions and kept us in the loop every step of the way. They were punctual, polite, reliable and hard-working.
Phil had given us an estimate of 6 weeks, but the job was done ahead of time, in 5.
I am extremely pleased, and would definitely use this company again for remodeling!
He is fantastic at giving us ideas about how to maximize the space.
His crews were friendly, professional and meticulous. They were here many times when we were not home and were the most trustworthy group i have ever dealt with.
Phil does a great job at communicating and organizing all the various portions of the project.
They started the work promptly. The basement is about 1400 sf and the finished job has two rooms, an office area with closet, a large living area, two decent size storage areas, a bathroom with shower, and a brewery/kitchen space. It literally took him and two other guys 20 hours to completely frame the entire basement. They used lasers to make sure everything was lined up correctly. The framing was perfect. Next, Phil hired an electrician to do the electrical work. It took the electrician about 12 hours of work over two days to finish the electrical. Phil and the electrician worked with me every step of the way to determine where I wanted outlets, switches, can lights, and basically the lighting zones should go and how they should be controlled. They did more than I expected in this area. After the electrical work, his crew came in and prepped for drywall. They moved the heating/cooling vents to places that made more sense and added a air return as well. I wasn't expecting that and it turned out to be a bonus for me. This also gave me time to do the plumbing. Finally, he hired a company to do the drywall work. They worked extremely quick and the result is amazing. It took two days to hang 3000 sq ft of drywall. After that, it took one day to tape, I believe 3 days for the mudding, a few hours to do the knockdown ceiling, and a few hours to sand and completely clean up.
Overall, the basement looks amazing, the entire experience was amazingly easy and flexible, and the best money I ever spent. Thank you Phil and team! I will definitely recommend you to everyone looking for work to get done.
Here?s a few of my thoughts as the job just finished up a few months ago:
I got 4 bids on this project, mostly from Angie?s list. Phil?s bid was right in the middle of the pack and felt fair and reasonable for this scope of work. More importantly, he outworked and out hustled the competition to earn my business and trust. It seemed like the rest of the field was just going through the motions.
What I saw from the others was: (i) do the least amount of work to get the job; (ii) too busy to answer questions and concerns in a timely manner; (iii) shoddy design-build contracts and paperwork; and (iv) questionable knowledge and experience.
What I saw from Phil on my project was: (i) a commitment to design the job exactly the way I wanted it; (ii) a contractor that is flexible, patient and can deal with a picky client like me; (iii) a stand up guy that will quickly fix a project hiccup if and when they occur; (iv) a family man with a responsible crew that I trust to be alone in my house with my wife and small kids; (v) a smart contractor that can solve just about any head scratching problem you will encounter on your job (and you will have these); (vi) a perfectionist that pays attention to every small detail and takes pride in his craftsmanship; (vii) a crew that will keep your house and the job site clean regardless of much construction mess was made during that day; (viii) a contractor with experience doing small, medium, and large scale basement remodels that?s a straight shooter and will talk you off a bad decision cliff if needed (I needed this twice and I?m glad Phil talked some sense into me); (ix) a guy that has all the tools to get the job done right (e.g. CNC machine for custom cabinets); and (x) a solid guy that will bust his rear to make you happy and deliver a high quality project.
Enthusiastic thumbs up!
