Thompson Chimney Services

I moved into a house and wasn't sure when the chimney had been cleaned last.  They came out on time, kept everything neat and clean, and did what they said they would.  They pointed out some possible issues with the chimney cap, and recommended a new one but it was a bit pricey.  Overall good service.

We bought two angies list deals for this service.  One was $99, and the other $85.  The man who did the service was really nice, helpful, and knowledgable.  I also had made a mistake by buying the two (I forgot I'd already bought the one!), and he said he'd honor the 2nd one after the expiration date, because it would be foolish to clean it again so soon.  I thought that was a real sign of honesty and character in a business, and I appreciated it.  I recommended them to others, and I will use them again.

I was pleased with the care they took to assure no damage to the carpet in the room with the fireplace.

My chimney had not been cleaned in years and I thought it would take a long time and make a big mess in the living room. He was done very quickly, less than an hour and there was NO mess! I will definitely use them again!

It went just fine. it's not the first time we've used this firm, and we remain satisfied.

We have a stove insert. Toward the end of the fireplace season, we started experiencing smoke billowing out into the house. This has never happened before. We didn't light many fires last winter because it was so mild; usually we have one going continuously during the colder months. I don't know whether the cleaning wasn't completely done or whether something else has clogged the works--waiting for our next cleaning to find out. I do know that the stove insert needs to be completely pulled out in order to effectively clean everything (according to the installers), and because I wasn't hovering over the guy I don't know whether this was done. If it turns out to be something other than a crappy cleaning job I will revise my post.

Excellent work performed.  The job was scheduled to be performed within 10 days after estimator has given me written estimate. Due to weather conditions the original date was cancelled and a followup date was performed 2 days later.

I assume they did the sweeping. They said I had something else wrong with my chimney. When I had a second opinion come, they said there was nothing wrong. I didn't like the fact that it seemed they were just trying to over sell me on something I didn't need.

D M Thompson came out to preform the Chimney Sweep. They were on time and I did not have any problems with the work.

He arrived on time and did the work with out any problems.

The service went very well.  He was on-time, very courteous and professional, covered the area around the chimney with blankets to keep the rug clean and cleaned-up thoroughly before leaving.

Everything went very well and as expected and we were very pleased.

He did a much better job as far as matching the brick and letting me know what needed to be repaired as opposed to the other one.   There was a huge difference in prices and the low one did not seem appropriate.  I would give them an A throughout.  I would absolutely use them again.  They were very good.

The son came out and gave me a quote. They came within a week. They had to reschedule because of rain.
They sent three guys and got the job done in about 2-3 hours.
It looks nice and I am really happy with what they did.

I contacted DM Thompson Masonry to clean the chimney of a second house. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the vent pipe needed to be raised to accommodate a replacement gas water heater. They said, "No Problem", and opened a new vent hole in the chimney, cleaning out the debris that someone had packed in. Fast, courteous, and obliging.

After a quick inspection, the person who was sent to sweep my chimney told me that I needed a new metal flu liner from the top to the bottom of my chimney. He told me that the company would send me a quote for the liner (approximately $2000 or more). He was at my house no longer than 10 minutes. After 3 or 4 weeks, I called DM Thompson Masonry Restoration, Inc., and left a message to call me concerning a refund for the $99.00 that I paid through Angies List.  After another week when I received no reply to my message, I called and left another message. Needless to say, the head honcho did not want to return my call or refund my $99.00. In the near future, I will take him and his corporation to small claims court. In this economic depression  where my line of work (concrete construction) is at an almost standstill, every dollar counts to me!!

We called Mr Thompson when smoke came into our family room from the fireplace.  He had cleaned our chimney prior to winter.  He came over and look over the chimney inside the house and outside the house.  He worked us in between jobs that day.  He spent quite a bit of his time looking over what the problem was.  He explained to us that our chimney was lower than the second story of the house and we were getting a backdraft.  He said that the only way to fix the problem would be to raise the chimney higher than second story.  He did not charge us for this evaluation.  We are very grateful for his time and explanation of the problem.  He is the only one we will ever hire for our chimney work.

Rocky was punctual on arriving for the initial estimate and he and his crew arrived right on time to do the work.  Also, telephone communications with Rose at the company's office were clear, concise, and accurate. Six months earlier, we had contacted a different company that lived within the same sub-division as we do and they proposed to do the work.  However, after comitting to complete the job within 2 weeks, this other company after 2 months still had not even started the work.  So, in the spring we contacted D.M. Thompson for an estimate.  They were a bit more costly (of course being farther away, I am sure their travel expenses were higher) , but the job was completed on time and they kept their committment.  We are very satisfied.

On March 5th, I patiently waited from 12-4pm (my time window) for them to arrive.  No one showed up, and no one called.  At approximately 4pm I called them, instead, to find out what the heck was going on.

On March 6th @ 7:30am, I get a voicemail saying they had allegedly called me twice and left messages, and that "They didn't want to keep coming back out here".  Well, feel free to check my phone records.  There were no calls from this company. And no one rang or knocked on my door.  And when I returned their call @ 8am, they gave me a line of crap, and disgusted I hung up. 

The Liars.  I sat here waiting for them the entire time--with my phone on and at the ready.  I would've had more respect for them if they'd simply admitted they made a clerical error instead of trying to turn things around and lay the blame at my feet.  I'll be asking Angie's List for a refund for this  Big Deal.

They ground out my mortar joints and flashing and all the tuck pointing blew out. They said they also waterproofed the chimney but my renters were still getting water on their ceiling a year later. I had them come back out again and finally had them realize that the mortar joints came out. So they came back out and they were ready to take the chimney off. Their people came out and they had the wrong address. My husband stopped them but in hindsight we should have had them redo it because the flashing is still coming off. They were just supposed to repair what they did the year before.

Would recommend this company to family and friends. Responsive and professional

Two different people explained two different ways (and two different reasons for them) to close off the chimney safely. We had to call and remind them to come back and finish the work after I had already paid them in full. However, the masonry work went great and they did eventually finish everything. The office people who answered the phones were always helpful and knowledgable. We love the ventless fireplace. So much warmer now without that drafty chimney!
